I can't :( because of warranty sticker. Amazon will make full refund, they will not make replace, and it can take up to 30 days.. How can I explain (show proof) to amazon that i have bad memory? :)

Warranty sticker? I don't remember there being a warranty sticker.

In any case, try contacting to a rep and showing them the screenshot.

Also, if you can only get a refund, try doing that and maybe looking at an equivalent product from one of the resellers. (GenTechPC is a favorite). If Amazon won't help you with a bad product, one of the resellers would be willing to help you out.

Yes, laptop from Amazon have white warranty sticker. Well, good news! I contacted to Amazon support and they will make replace  but currently this model out of stock, so i need to wait.

I must return my broken laptop to amazon, but I can't return system to manufacturer look because I formated and recreated the partitions on hard drive. It will be problem? (OS and drivers are installed)

OK so it seems that one of my RAM sticks is faulty. I'm currently living in Korea and its WAY too much of a mission to talk to the internet seller (no Englishee) so I'm just gonna buy a new stick. Not that expensive anyway. The Korean sites all ask me to choose if I want RAM that is 30nm or 40nm.... What do I pick?

    it shouldn't matter.
Guess try 30nm if the price is the same

If that means the manufacturing process, then the 30nm one will generate less heat and consume less power while giving the same performance.

I just received my ge70 from bhphotovideo.com. everything is good except my audio jacks are not gold plated!! The jacks just are black in colour.did a search but seem that nobody face the same problem. This is an international order so it may not make sense to send it back to bhphoto. Does the gold jack really matters for the sound quality? Will this be covered under warranty? If it does probably I can bring it to my local agent to take a look

It really doesn't matter. Just a gimmick, same as the gold-plated USB plugs on gaming mice.

Just check your sound quality. If it's not above average/great then it might be a fault, though if it's fine I wouldn't worry about it.

Hi to all, i'm interested in buying the GE60 (i5-3210m ,gt650m gddr5 2gb) but i dont know if it is really worth another 210 euros(250$) for the i7-3610m same gpu...I want the laptop for gaming (bf3 etc.) and other stuff (vmware, programming, photoshop) and i wouldn't like to change it for the next 2-3 years.
Also is it possible to change the cpu later?
Compared to this asus : ASUS - Notebooks- ASUS ASUS-Automobili Lamborghini VX7SX (i found in the same price as the i7 GE60) which one would you choose?
    Thanks!!

For gaming you won't notice the difference.
For programming if you needed more cores you wouldn't be asking about it.
For VMWare it depends on how many machines you need, how often you'll use them and how heavy they need to be. If you're just going to use 1 Linux VM for programming then whatever, not really worth it.
For Photoshop I really don't know, and again it depends on what you do and how often, if you're just going to edit pictures then no.

In a year or two this may change, but:

You can upgrade the CPU later. You'll probably be able to sell yours and buy the other one cheaper than 210€ by then.

Are you seriously comparing a 2.4kg machine to a 3.8kg one? If you need portability the ASUS is completely out of the question. Hardware-wise they're similar, you probably wouldn't notice the difference.

You will notice the difference between the dual core vs the quad core 3610qm in games such as BF3 because it loves quads. I would go with the quad core. Or I might just get the dual, buy a 3610qm or better on here or ebay, and then sell the i5. This would probably save you a little while allowing you to get the quad or an even better quad depending on the deal you're able to find.

Thanks for your advice ,about the weight i don't really move the laptop very, often only when i'm travelling so i dont think the weight will have a difference for me...the only thing i love in asus is the construction/design + it has a backlit keyboard.
I also found out that the Msi is a lot easier to maintain (changing thermal paste) vs the asus you have to unscrew lots of screws to reach the cpu/gpu..As far as i know you have to change thermal paste every 1/1.5 year right?

Hello everyone .. I know a lot of questions about this were asked but i think my problem is a bit different .. After searching i finally decided to buy Msi Ge60 .. This notebook is really good for the games im okay with that but there is a problem .. İ will go university and will be studying civil engineering .. So the notebook i will buy must be running some programs perfectly like Autocad, SAP2000, Sta4Cad, İdecad, Primavera, 3DStudioMax .. İ guess this notebook has feature to run all these programs perfectly but when i was searhing i saw something .. " 15.6 inch with Full Hd " is bad for using Autocad ..And the other thing that im not sure is battery and cell .. İ may have to use notebook for a long time outside ..So im really confused .. There can be differents according to the model so i am writing some feature below .. İf anyone use these programs or have information about these situation please let me know .. And lastly i said it can run these programs perfectly but i am not sure about that too .. So anything about running these programs on this notebook you can say wont be bad =) .. Thanks ..

I dont have experience on these programs you mentioned ,but i think for autocad the one thing you need (apart from a good cpu/gpu) for sure is a big screen to see the cads easily(buy a monitor). As for the battery run time i dont think that you will be working in places with no ac power nearby...at least at my university i am always working at home or the labs..i have never needed the battery that much.

Hi, I have been having some issues regarding really low fps while playing games. I have the 660m 2gb, and the new 306.02 beta drivers from nvidia, released just a couple of days ago. CPU is te 3610qm with 8gb of memory @ 1600mhz. Everything is running at stock speeds, no oc'ing at all.

When I play Battlefield 3, I can only manage to get around 20fps on the lowest settings. Also, I got a meager 20/30 fps while playing SCP Containment Breach, while my friend who played the game on integrated graphics, got around 50fps. I got P2602 3d marks with the newest nvidia 306.02 drivers, which is a tad lower, but on par, with other 660m's. However I am still getting terrible fps in BF3.

I have tried forcing vsync on, off and on auto.

Any ideas as to what would be causing this problem would be helpful. :)

Yep, make sure it's not on power saving mode and try to run the game with right click and select the Nvidia graphics. If it doesn't work this way either maybe try reinstalling the drivers..
Anyway, you can have MSI Afterburner running in the background and you can check if your GPU downclocks or if it's utilisation is low.

    see my comment below

:D :D :D :D :DWow. Just, wow. Feel free to give me a smack in the face through my monitor, lol. I keep my laptop on power saver mode so I don't have to plug it in so much. I turned the power setting to balanced and started up BF3, no real difference. Plugged in the laptop, and WHAM! 90 fps on low settings in BF3, 60 on medium, 30 on high and 20 on ultra. I don't know why it didn't occur to me that this was the issue before. All other games run smoothly as well. I was actually thinking about RMA'ing it, lol. Thanks a lot you guys. Just goes to show that simple solutions to big problems can often be overlooked.

hey guys... been a while... but glad to be back... so for some odd reason, i've noticed that now my laptop is getting really hot... even with the turbo fan on, playing either d3 or cs:go, its going to 100+ and i didn't notice it at first, but while playing cs, my hand slipped and i touched the bezel on the left side of the tab/caps lock/shift keys, and it was SUPER hot... i was like

still running stock, haven't touched the drivers so im not sure if i need to repaste the sucker or what... but its worrisome ...

    Something's definitely not right there.

Is your fan working correctly? I don't think CS:GO, even with a lousy paste job, could do that to a CPU.

Haha, yep plugging it in was so simple it didn't even occur to me that you didn't. I was clueless for 2 days about ridiculously increased loading times and FPS capped at 30 in any game because of power saver mode though, that's why I suggested you check that out. Glad you've managed to solve the issue and can play :).

My CPU max temp was 96C in full stock condition in the first days of usage. I've repasted and now it maxes out at around 90C (could probably go even lower because this was my first laptop repaste ever), so I suggest you try it too. Also now my 135/200 GPU OC runs 1C cooler than stock before the repaste.

So, I finally decided to go for the MSI GE60, but apparently the i7 version is out of stock in my country and will not be sold anymore.. which puts me back one step again.

They do still sell an i5 version of the GE60, but my eye has also fallen on the Asus N56VZ. I know this one has also been mentioned in this thread before, from which I got that its GT 650M has GDD3 and the GE60 has GDDR5? Now, I can't really seem to find that information for myself, nor do I really understand the difference, so a bit of help would be much appreciated.

I still plan to use it for travelling, but also want it to be decent for gaming (mainly Guild Wars 2) and some photo/video editing. I'll post the specifics of the models they sell in my country below.

For that cash, would you still pick the the GE60 above the N56VZ? If so, why?

    MSI GE60 0NC-072NL (= €899,- / $1128)
    - 15.6 inch / 1920 x 1080 / Matte
    - Intel Core i5 / 3210M / 2,5 GHz
    - 6 GB RAM / SO-DIMM DDR3-1333
    - NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M / 2048 MB
    - 750 GB SATA / 5400 rpm
    - Wi-Fi / 1000Mbit/s (Gigabit Ethernet)
    - UBS 2.0 (x2) & 3.0 (x2), Numpad, (multi-touch) Touchpad, VGA, HDMI, 3,5 mm Audio, 3,5 mm Mic, SD Card reader, DVD-Player/Burner, Bluetooth, HD (1280x800) Webcam
    - 6-Cells Lithium-ion
    - 2400 gram (= 5.29 lbs)

    Asus N56VZ-S4044V (= €999,- / $1254)
    - 15.6 inch / 1920 x 1080 / Matte
    - Intel Core i7 / 3610QM / 2,3 GHz
    - 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM
    - NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M / 2048 MB
    - 1000 GB SATA / 5400 rpm
    - Wi-Fi / 1000Mbit/s (Gigabit Ethernet)
    - UBS 3.0 (x4), Numpad, (multi-touch) Touchpad, VGA, HDMI, 3,5 mm Audio, 3,5 mm Mic, SD Card reader, DVD-Player/Burner, Bluetooth, HD (1280x800) Webcam
    - 6 cell 54 Wh Lithium-ion
    - 2700 gram (= 5.95 lbs)

Well look if one of those 650m use ddr5... which is basically a 660m underclocked...

But if they both are the same... i would take the I7... quadcore vs dualcore is so 2005...

both harddrive is slow so you might need an msata SSD...

8 gig of ram is like 50$ these days...

    I verified that the Asus N56VZ has a DDR3 version, the MSI GE60 a DDR5.

So then the MSI GE60 would still be the better deal, even though it has the i5?

Easy 1.1 ghz on core and at least +300mhz memory

sure its a dual core but... meh... its your choice...

its also 125$ less than asus... and size matter :D

Definitely try to repaste. What I've noticed is that the GPU and CPU temps effect each other visibly probably because of the shared heatsink. Because of this a bad CPU paste job can increase GPU temps too.
Anyway, try to get some good thermal paste and repaste.

For me it did drop temps a few degrees, though I might try it again as it wasn't a perfect repaste I think. I'm also considering cutting holes in the backplate that are actually under the fan to be able to OC the GPU (now I get over 90C on GPU with +135/200). I simply can't understand how MSI could design the air intake so badly...

    Hi Guys,

Just bought my MSI GE60 and also picked up a Crucial M4 256GB to swap out the hdd with. started doing a fresh install but i realised the driver/utility cd that came with the computer doesn't seem to have everything in it. should i wipe the ssd and clone my existing boot partition instead? just wondering if there'll be any alignment issues from cloning a hdd to ssd.

    Thanks!

Just ordered my GE60! I noticed this forum when I was google-ing the crap out of the laptop!

I will be getting the 240GB mushkin atlas deluxe m-sata SSD ofcourse. Originally I was looking into Asus N56VZ but I decided to go for the GE60... Hope I won't be regretting that decision ;)

I´ll be posting my thoughts and experience soon(tm).

    Are you using stock cooling?
I get much worse temps without OC.. 86C in Furmark on stock clocks and up to 93C while gaming because the CPU's heat (up to 95C) transfers to the GPU. I've repasted once already, though it might not be the best, but it can't be so bad to result in such a huge difference..

Edit: Nvm, just realised who you are and that you possibly have the most cooling-modded GE60 here ^^. I'm planning to do a moar holez if I can get a spare backplate too btw.

Bah, spare backplate. I have Ken. If something happens to my laptop (which shouldn't be the case since it's been perfectly stable for last three months) Ken will give me a big e-hug and make it all better.

Can someone provide a link to a site which shows us how to do some basic modding on the GE70? I would love to get my CPU gaming temps away from the 90's. CPU reaches 99c while playing Sleeping Dogs....with the turbo fan on AND a cooling pad (which I'm not sure makes a noticeable difference).

Great! Thanks! You've got balls man.... Aren't you worried about a random fault and then not being able to return it because you broke/removed the warranty sticker...and drilled holes in the case?

I see that you've lowered your temps about 10c from what I'm getting now. What is the real world benefit to this? Longer component life? I'm used to my AMD x3 445 desktop CPU running at less than 60c and then getting worried when it gets over that!
