    1. 2 hours while gaming is very very optimistic :D you wont get these values in near 5 years on any laptop ... 1 and half is max what was i reading at some other forums + 1 review
You can get 5hours of use while your WiFi is off and Brigthness is at 40-60% + doing only some TXT things or webbrowsing without videos
With WiFi turned on and Brightness still at 40-60% your battery life will be around 3-4hours (+some youtube videos)

    2. It's same as your laptop is connected to the charger...and i dont think you will be playing games while you are on battery so the laptop will stay cool

    3. Haven't tested it yet but everything is better than stock ...also it's better to repaste it on your own ;)

Hello. I have a Ge70 and yesterday it started making a rubbing sound. Like something was hitting something else. Not exactly a grinding noise. It would do it I could shut down computer and restart and it would do fine. Today it started again. Making a rubbing noise. Its coming from the left side of the laptop so im thinking a fan is hitting something. I took a can of canned air and blew out the laptop really well. Laptop has been running for maybe 5 minutes now no problems yet. It normally does it once its been going for a while. It is still under warranty so cant open it up. Can anyone recommend me a program that can check my hard drives to see if they are healthy? I have had the HDD replaced earlier this year.

Does this, or any recent laptop with a decent graphics card, run anywhere near full speed when on battery? Most throttle the CPU down to some very low frequency, as well as the GPU, meaning realistic gaming performance on battery alone isn't realistic.

For the most part you always game with the laptop plugged in, in my experience.

You can open it ... MSI is free to people to make their changes until it damage something ;)
But to be sure check out warranty of MSI products in your country, there are some small differencies between warranty in countries

You will never get same speed of CPU or GPU as you are pluged in while you are on battery ...

No since the battery can't provide a 180W supply without melting at best lol.

so r u saying that the laptop should be on charge while playing games to get maximum quality gaming ?
wont this affect the battery itself in anyway?
coz i have read elsewhere .. people say that any laptop batery is expected to last 1yr or 500 charge cycles (whichever hits later)
where 1 charge cycle is the entire charging of battery from 0 to 100%
in this time batery provides the laptop with charge with its full potential
after 500 cycles are completed, the batery looses its quality by 10% every 3 months
thus if u wer geting 2 hrs initialy ull now get around 1 hr 50mins batery life on full charge
this is how u maintain your batery can can expect it to last longer and provide good charge to the laptop (for upto 3 yrs)
but when u play on the laptop and simultaneously charging it .. you are loosing many of these charge cycles and reducing the life of your batery
    to conclude ..
can you tel me what difference can i expect while playing games on the laptop while its on charge and while its solely on batery
pls tel me in term of its effect on the batery, laptop and performance

While you are on battery you can expect max 40-60% power from your GPU. With charger you can get 110% with MSI Afterburner.
It's better to remove your battery if its already on 100% and you are running on charger while you are playing games. Use your battery only if it's needed(school, work...simply only for easy tasks - MS Word or some programming in PHP in text editor)...

You won't get 100% power from your GPU while on battery in next 5 years at least... but I think we can expect some sort of battery revolution in next 15years and than it will be possible...maybe...

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi...er-mode-realtek-hd-audio-manager-my-ge60.html

But unfortunately it wasn't solved there either...Can anyone who owns a GE60 or 70 too respond?

My GE70 came bundled with Windows 8 in it. Keyboard bcklight is also not working. Tried updating the drivers from MSI official website but still no luck in getting it work.

I also already tried upgrading the BIOS, still not working.

Can someone help me with this?

    Thanks in advance!

    I have a few questions

1] Does Windows Experience Index (WEI) give correct measurement for the laptop performance
What WEI can i expect from MSI Ge-70 which has the following config
    Win 8
    8 Gb ram @ 2133 Mhz
    i7-4700 Intel-Haswell processor @ 2.4~3.4 Ghz
765 Nvidia Gtx 2 Gb graphic card
    256 X 2 Crucial SSD
    IC thermal Diamond Compound

2] Is it okay if i remove the battery and plug my ge70 to the power suppy plug and use it for gaming for many hours .. will it affect the hardware?

    3] Win 8 vs Win 7 for gaming ?

    2. What battery has to do with the hardware? ... Only Problem should be overheating nothing else...
    3. Definitely Windows 8 ... if you'll miss Start button just install something like Startispack ... Windows 8 is built better for hardware like this ... Win 7 may slow it down.

dude what i meant is that .. some people use the laptop by removeing the batery and keeping it charged via a plug all the time .. is it possible for msi ge70 .. and if i do this for several hours ... like 5~7 hours straight .. will the heat generated damage the hardware

    IMO,a good move by MSI.

Now they need to give buyers a choice of Windows 7 or Windows 8 but we know Microsoft will not let this happen because of making money in the Windows 8 Store.

Laptop automaticly throttle down if the temps are too high to prevent overheating ... but I think max temps in high usage are around 98°C but GE70 have bigger chassis than GE60 so it wont go to this high temps...

I dont think there is much people who are buying anything from Win8 Store... its totally useless in desktop or laptop computers... Win 8 Store is made especially for tablets

    Hey man,
unfortunately, I'm having the exact same problem as the guy in that thread I posted. When I open the Realtek Audio Manager the 'Speaker Configuration' box is greyed out so I can't change it to anything.

Seems like everyone here is too busy to check their own systems though..kinda sucks, I had expected to find some help here.

Try going through the windows options he suggested rather than realtek or update to the latest realtek drivers from their website.

    Same deal, unfortunately.
    t22.jpg

Since I just got this laptop, I recently installed all the drivers so the Realtek driver is new.

I'm just wondering if other people who own a GE60 or 70 are seeing the same thing as me. It could very well be there just isn't an option for quadrophonic at all, you know? I don't think there's even any sound coming out of the two speakers at the bottom though so I feel like there must be something wrong..

I dont own that laptop yet but i saw something like that in reviews:

Main two speakers under the display are used to play high frequency sounds and 2 at the bottom plays low freq. sounds ... i dont know if they have option to be like quadrophonic, i think they are connected together.

Lurked here for a long time, finally decided to make an account because I bought the GE 70 today. The speakers are probably full range speakers that have the high range and low range cones separated. In essence, it makes it have "four speakers" but it is really only two full range speakers.

Do any of you guys know exactly how the graphics cards are setup in this laptop? According to the Nvidia control panel, the laptop display is actually hooked up to the IGP of the 4700 and is using the 765M for PhysX. Does it switch to using the 765M under load or does it really function the way Nvidia is showing it to function?

If a program on the list starts up, the dGPU is woken and rendering is passed to it. It is isolated from any of the display outputs though so you have to go through the IGP.

So, to make sure I understand correctly, the IGP handles all displaying of anything that is rendered, but anything on a "list" (which I will assume is anything that is considered graphics intensive such as a game) is passed to the discrete GPU for actual rendering?

my msi ge70 has arrived and has the following configuration
    8Gb ram @2133Mhz
    i7 intel haswell 4th gen @ 2.4~3.4
    nvidia 765gtx 2gb graphics
2 SSDs of 256GB each (Crucial III)
i am geting the following WEI on win8 with no additional software for increasing overall and ssd performance and also it wasnt overclocked
    1.1.gif
1] does overclocking and performance enhancement software increase the WEI rating
2] does WEI is proper measure of systems overall performance or is it just anther inaccurate rating
3] my default graphics adapter is intel hd 4600 and my gaming graphics adapter is nvidia 765gtx, why is this kept different, can i somehow also have my nvidia 765gtx as my default adapter ?

If you have one, could you check in your Realtek manager if it shows an option for quadrophonic?
I suppose it could very well be that it's just two speakers 'split up', but I feel like I can't really hear anything coming out from under there either so I wonder if something else is wrong..

*Edit* Actually, I just decided to try listening again and you're right; the top speakers have the high tones and the bottom ones the bass. Still, I'd be interested in knowing if you can set them to quadrophonic in Realtek or Windows */Edit*

WEI is based on the lowest score, so your Intel 4600HD is going to pull your score down. Go into the Nvidia control panel and set global 3D to Nvidia (not Auto or Intel). This will force the notebook to always use the GTX card and try re-running the test. The power light will be blue when on Intel HD4600 and amber when on the GTX, but with it forced to the GTX it will always be amber. Just remember to change it back to Auto when you’re done or you will quickly run your battery down when on battery power. The Nvidia Optimus technology is what causes the switch between the two cards based on demand.

    That's...interesting, to say the least.
I downloaded the driver from that site you linked and re-installed it even though it was the same version as the one I had, but I still don't get any options other than stereo.

Anyone have any idea what could cause this?

After your next clean Windows installation don't install the Realtek HD Audio driver from MSI.Install only R2.71 build 6971.

Right now you can try to completely remove the Realtek HD Audio drivers from the system/registry with Driver Sweeper or other programs and then install build 6971.
Download Driver Fusion (Driver Sweeper) - MajorGeeks

I won't be reinstalling windows just for this and unfortunately Driversweeper didn't change anything either, but I'll keep it in mind next time I'm forced to wipe the entire laptop.
    Thanks~
Is there something wrong with the MSI driver though?

I just read the notebookcheck review, like the other Haswell models from MSI this things overheats and throttles. I'm dubious of even the GS70 at this point. Seems everything from MSI is subject to overheating and throttling this time around..very disappointing.

I got the same issue... I installed the latest beta driver from LaptopVideo2Go: NVIDIA & Laptop News (modded INF), less lag but it's still there. Also I got the SSD & HDD model (12NL), and the games on the HDD tend to lag sometimes, it's caused by the HDD going into idle mode. Which is pretty frustrating.

Btw about the overheating issues... I haven't noticed those at all. I play Crysis 3 all the time and the laptop does indeed get hot, but the CPU is always steady around 2.40ghz (or higher when needed).
I ran Prime95 as well and the CPU doesn't get hot at all... probably because it doesn't use the GTX during Prime95

Hi, I'm thinking about getting this laptop or the GX60. I would like the GE70 because the CPU is better than A10 5750M but I'm afraid of the temperatures, do you think it'll get really hot after playing 2-5 hours? is it worth adding a cool pad?

    Thanks, greetings. :hi2:

Thank you but unfortunately if the GS70 price will be around 1800$, then it will be too expensive for me :(

The GS70 got the same specs as the GE70... I think the GE70 is fine, just don't expect to play Crysis 3 in Ultra ;)
