Electrical Tape? Really?...... Please tell me this is not the PowerNotebooks way. Sometimes I have to wonder if Donald reads your post, LOL!

What is it ? Info of GT72's sound system ?
-
Well, today's the day. Final day of Gamescom (Cologne, Germany) and NVidia have their last hurrah at 17:00 (I think) when they may (or may not) announce something. Could it be the Maxwell refreshes?

I'm talking about what users can do if they want to use their own devices, electrical tape wrapped around would be perfectly safe and secure if not the most visually appealing. -
Very interesting, I didn't know that but it makes sense.
All in all, M.2 is still new so even if the 80mm is the size we can fit on it, it will be the most supported size I imagine. Specially for the bigger size drives. -
Hello,
Yesterday I just got my new GT72 in but noticed a battery wear level of 31%, even after several charging/discharging cycles and battery calibration.
Can any of you GT72 owners check their battery wear level with tools like HWMonitor, Aida64, Nirsoft BatteryInfoView, BatteryBar... ?
Another user on the official MSI forums has the same battery wear level as me, so I was wondering how much more devices could be affected. -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
I have not actually tested the new internal battery, and I think I would get with MSI tech support regarding your question. A wear level of 31% does sound odd, and this makes me wonder about where MSI sourced the batteries. Perhaps MSI needs to look into this, and reporting your findings may be beneficial to all. Please let us know how this develops. Also, I have forwarded this to an MSI source.
-
Thanks. I have also contacted MSI service and asked what to do to solve this problem as fastest as possible.
-
I just got my laptop also and it is also showing 30% battery wear.
-
thanks for letting us know.
if there are more users reporting a high battery wear level, I'm guessing it's just a measuring error or MSI programmed the wrong designed capacity into the eeprom of the battery -
can you upgrade the gpu in these? Say i bought it now and in 2 years want a new gpu is it a easy fix? I know you can't with the asus their soldered in or something?
-
Hi
same here I'm getting battery wear level of 31% in my GT72 Dominator Pro-010 -
Hi ALL,
Purchased the GT72 007 few days ago, it will arrive today. Does this model come with the accessories package (mouse, headphone,...)? I have seen an unboxing where those accessories were included.. -

Currently, I see Newegg provides a free mouse and mouse pad.
We will check our inventory and then let you know shortly. -
I just ordered this laptop yesterday (-007). I previously owned the MSI GS70 Stealth pro -024 and have to say that I loved everything about it expect WIN8 and the heat. Other than that I took the OS into consideration when ordering this new GT72 but then started thinking. While the system still operate as it was designed if I customized it with WIN7 instead. Drivers, Steelseries keyboard, xcast, ect. Should I contact XOTICPC.com and let them know to just send it with WIN8 because of this concern? Let me know your thoughts. THanks guys. Great thread.
-
Maybe, it depends if they are still making MXM compatible GPU's.
Not only that sometimes the BIOS does not recognize new GPU's unless they are compatible from the start. -
Hi all, i am a potential buyer of the msi GT72 but now i have one big concern, after doing some research i have seen several people who say that HW monitor shows a battery wear level of 31% just out of the box, which is pretty bad and therefore batt life would be around 1'5 hours, even on some youtube reviews you can see the HWmonitor info showing this, and i am afraid it could be a manufacturing problem, so please could the current owners check this and post their batt wear level screenshots. Thank you all
-
I'm not pretty sure, but I got the email from MSI service that you can RMA the battery seperately without the laptop.
-
Hi, so it is confirmed that the battery is defective?
I thought the battery was non removable. -
No it is not confirmed since MSI hasn't looked into or gave official statement to this.
The battery is built in but to remove it you have to open the maintance hatch and the frame. -
Battery wear that high indeed is very alarming. What are the values used for Full charge, designed and current capacities? At any rate, since the laptop is new, as nex86, contact MSI to have it serviced. While the battery is internal, it is still removable as far as I remember. Just not easily accesible like previous laptop designs.
Yep. Even when everything is technically supported, you can run into such issues. Changing GPUs is not out of this world, and a dedicated person will find a way. If you really want to change GPUs, just remember it is always a gamble in terms of compatibility. Specially if the design of new gpus changes the layout for the heatsink.
I personally think that you should keep Win 8. After Win 8.1 and spending some time with it, you can customize your experience to be very similar to 7. Unless you can't live without win 7, i'd say keep 8
I even use 8 for my work laptop now!
-
Thanks so much for your response. I removed win7 from my purchase not to play the waiting game.....
-
I have just checked again Gentechpc video review, and effectively it shows batt wear level at 31% on HW monitor.
-
Anyone have the numbers of designed capacity, current capacity etc? Maybe there is a reason for that particular 30-31% battery wear.
-
It just seems too much coincidence that different buyers have noticed the same 31% batt wear level.
-

Regarding this battery wear issue, there is no need for hysteria...... no defect has been is confirmed, and this could simply be a reporting or code error of some sort. A concern has been raised, and this has been brought to MSI's attention. How about we allow time for this to be investigated, and for MSI to respond. Even if there was a QA issue with the battery supplier, I have no doubt MSI will make it right. In just about every new notebook release, it is usually vigilant end-users that find the smallest discrepancy, and such as this should be a simple fix.
-
Designed capacity is 86580 mWh, full charge is at 60673 mWh, that makes a difference of ~30%
-
That is a lot! For a brand new laptop my old vaio has 5 years old and is on 35% wear level.
Apparently another people have posted the same problem on own MSI dragon forum. -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Yes, and this is the math the software is reporting. I suspect it is the case as you reported in post #460, but we should know something soon.
Sorry, but you seem overly concerned, especially given you do not own the notebook. Again, how about we allow MSI time to look into to this. Whatever the problem, I am sure it will be rectified. Believe me, the sky is not falling here..... and those posting in the MSI Dragon User Forum (like myself), are also posting here.
-
I may be a bit over concerned but it's just because i pre ordered this laptop, and i don't like to spend a mini fortune is something that is not 100% in perfect condition, especially because i already sold my gigabyte P35K in order to buy this one.
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Easy..... breathe...... even ' IF' there is a problem, you will be taken care of. MSI has a presence here, and they do care about user concerns. No worries, mate!
-
I see. So it is reporting as if it were a 4 cell heh, don't worry I am sure there will be a fix to this. Sometimes the software is not reliable in reading though, but you can always try my secret technique.... supercharging. Look, I have proof of super charging: http://i.imgur.com/cnyxDxc.png
I bet you are jealous!
Yep, Stalker is right, no need to panic. It's not as if there is no solution at all. Either they will fix it, or replace it. No worries!
Don't worry Tarwater, it is normal to expect 100% condition, but you know there is always something that might come up. The good thing is you have a new laptop, and it will get fixed
I am sure. Just keep in mind there will always be slight wear (just not 30% lol).
Don't forget to send a message to your reseller and specially MSI so that they get their act together!-=$tR|k3r=- likes this. -

RYZEKI! (slap, slap!) STALKER? LOL!
Battery aside, the GT72 is already a very nice notebook, but remember, very shortly it's getting better..... Maxwell is coming! Just a little added thought for those who have patience.
-
just ran a normal test of battery eater on integrated graphics, medium brightness, wifi on, keyboard backlight disabled, bluetooth disabled and came to ~66 min.
according to Notebookcheck the GT70 2PE that has the same battery gets to 71 min at maximum brightness.Attached Files:

Good info nex86! Thanks! All of this has been passed on to MSI, and now we wait. We should hear something shortly.
-
Hahahaha! Honest mistake!
I bursted out laughing in the office.
So, they are basically on the same level?-=$tR|k3r=- likes this. -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
You are having too much fun in the workplace, aren't you?
-
kinda but slightly off. Keep in mind that I only ran it at medium brightness and without keyboard backlight.
also, the GT70 has a i7 4810MQ, not sure how much more power it takes, but then again the GT72 has two fans and the GT70 only one. -
Had the chance to hold the GT70 and compare it to my GT72. Are they made by the same company?? used it for a while on my lap and in few minutes the top left side became uncomfortably hot. Played on the GT72 more than an hour (sniper 3) cooool.
The one thing is weird on the GT72 is the placement of the sub-woofer. It seems it is better placed on the GT70.
I am sure that this beast (GT72) is designed to manage higher thermal demand than current setup...current specs are just place holder.. -
Sometimes yes
But I was distracted and in my mind it made sense!
they are similarly specc'd and the difference is not that great. The dual fans will definitely consume more power, but I dunno how much more power the 4810 consumes, but it should be that much more.
Very glad to hear how cool the new GT72 is
I will definitely want to get one, and I will compare it with my GT60 to see how it fare is all departments.

-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
I just posted processor differences HERE.
Yes, the are both MSI systems. Go HERE, and scroll down to the bottom of the post. I have listed difference in the two notebooks there. The GT72 really is an improvement over the GT70. Also, read post #2 for a synopsis of my initial thoughts.
Sniper Elite III, eh? Did you do any bullet cam headshots?
-
*hysterically pounding away at keyboard*
I have a brand new GT72 which shows the same wear level.... I will blow up the world if MSI doesn't send someone to my house immediately to replace this battery!!!!@@!!
j/k
I am concerned, though, and will hope for a response from them soon. I'm holding off setting up a service ticket to see what comes out publicly first, just in case it IS some kind of battery ID issue... although the rated/full charge values would suggest it's not third party software improperly reading the unit.

Yeah, when I initially tested this notebook, I was so pleased with everything else, checking the battery was the last thing on my mind. Heck, for the most part with a notebook like this, I stay plugged-in anyhow..... but I certainly can understand folks expecting at least a couple hours on IGP, unplugged. Anyhow, I'm sure we'll hear something soon.
-
striker, now with days of use what can you say about the cooling system? work with hard gaming and high stress? for a gamers/video editing/desing etc work?
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
My opinion has not changed, and the GT72 will do all the task you mention, very well! Try it, you'll like it!
-
im waiting for the new nvidia gpus and if possible a discount msi laptops lol
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
I don't blame you, I am waiting for the next-gen GT72 too..... watch for post #3 of this thread.
-
nice, when you think msi release the next gen? -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Can't say.... sooner than some people think, not soon enough for others, and soon after NVidia and Intel announces the release of the technology. Soon!
-
lol ok, mid october hahahaha.
