Not to worry.... the next-gen GT72 will be here soon enough.
The article does clarify the concerns some have had, regarding the GPU..... clearly it's MXM, and not integrated.
Also, this video is Bad-@$$, and had me rock'in some x-treme air guitar.
Enjoy!
EDIT: Today things just keep getting better, and better...... Ken just put up his GT72 Pre-Order pages:

Here is an early review. Unfortunately no info about noise...

The MSI press release posted above has a blurb regarding noise reduction in the new design.

Has there been any confirmation on a IPS screen? I'm looking to add an additional laptop, to go with my Alienware 14. The A 17 has a crap TN screen, so I've been planning on getting an 18. This beauty would be a better option, as I could play in bed or sofa easier. Please provide any screen info, as it becomes available.

Just watch the lead post of this thread. I'll be posting the screen info as soon as I receive my GT72..... VERY soon!

It's a TN panel.

Hmmmmm, that was helpful. As I said, I will post the specific screen info shortly, like the actual make/model, because I will actually have the GT72 in my hot lil' hands.

VERY soon!

Lol soon isnt a accurate time measurement system , so you mean 2 hours you will have it or 2 days later
-
Aw man, I hope it somehow turns out to be an IPS type screen. It's really impossible to go back once you have experienced IPS vertical viewing angles. Did the previous gt70 TN screen invert colors when changing its vertical positioning?
-

I would wait when they release the IPS version -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Hmmmm, let's see...... how about this? The UPS guy will probably deliver in the next couple hours, but I'll be playing with it for 2 days before I can post anything. I am allowed to play with it first, right?

You guys are shameless....... no patience, and always seeking instant gratification. I bet your lady friend hates that, LOL!
Anyhow, if I do receive it shortly, I still have to get it up (the system that is), run set-up, update the OS and any drivers, remove crap-ware and other unwanted software, install diag and benchmark software, run benchmarks, take photos, host photos, write content..... and post/update to forums...... and yes, I'll probably pop in and out of the forum occasionally..... so patience everyone.

Not to sound selfish, but the noise levels and cooling are, IMHO, the most important factors when it comes to comparisons with the competition. The benchmarks, while important, should be pretty much on par with other machines that have similar specs. So, could you pleeeaaase... let us know as soon as you have it.
Thanks!!

LOL! There goes another demand for instant gratification again! Not my first rodeo! Temps and noise levels are usually important with most gaming notebook enthusiast...... and it is while running those stressing benchmarks, that I will be monitoring those temps and noise levels..... and I feel certain we will see an improvement over the GT70 in this regard.
Edit: The GT72-2PE Dominator Pro-007 has arrived! (Happy Dance, Happy Dance!)
Time to get to work!

When you get a break from playing with your new toy, I would love to get a TN or IPS screen confirmation. My money is burning a hole in my pocket for either the Alienware 18 or this MSI.

It should be the same panel from the GT70 series.Kevin@GenTechPC likes this.

Any guesses or hints at when the 3k version might follow?

Not quite..... it's another Chi Mei Innolux, but rather than the GT70 'CMO1720' (N173HGE-L11), this is the CMN1735 (N173HGE-E11). Like the GT70 screen, it has good brightness, color, and contrast, but the viewing angles leave something to be desired..... washing out quickly, left, right, up, and down. In this regard, I'd much rather have the CMO1720 screen.
So for those asking, it's a TN-TFT-LCD screen.

Will be eagerly waiting your review and we all want too know how loud the fans are under load and temps please.
Just a quick question about the fan profile:
Are they always on? Like web browsing and doing non-gaming stuff. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
I believe only the CPU fan kicks in randomly due to constant generation of heat, but GPU fan should spin only during intensive video usage. -

When a 3k 17.3" panel exists I am sure MSI will jump on it.Cloudfire likes this. -
As should Alienware and Asus. It's ridiculous that all of the ultrabooks get the primo screens, primarily used by the casuals, while the gaming enthusiasts get stuck with antiquated tech. I'm aware of the Razer Blade and Ghost screens, but their cooling efforts make them nothing more than teases. Guess it's the heavy Alienware 18, with PLS screen, for me.extrospector likes this.

Specially after they addressed your main issue with previous ones, now with dual fans!Cloudfire likes this.

I just hope they resolved the voltage issue. I've heard of people ended up having to replace mobo's due to a faulty power connector issue. That was actually what happened to mine. It simply wears out, stops charging your laptop altogether and then bam, fried mobo. It's a shame since I really enjoyed my GT70-0nc until it died just shortly after my 2 year warranty was up
. If they addressed that issue, I would happily consider a GT72 myself! The laptop was a pretty good total package thanks to steel series and dynaudio additions. Speakers were great and the headphones sounded great. Not sure if that was because of the dynaudio and/or gold plated jacks or not. One other gripe I had with it, a minor one, was the keyboard if you played WoW or anything where you want to strafe and hold down 3 keys at once, it wouldn't register the last key pressed so you had to let go of turning or strafing one or the other, was kinda awkward. Would be happy to hear if that is also addressed! Looking forward to this review!
-
A dream come true.
That was the only con I had with the GT series and now they have fixed it (plus the 230W PSU yay). That makes GT72 a top contender among notebooks for sure and maybe top of the line for so many reasons:
Dynaudio
Steelseries keyboard
Onboard amplifier for both speakers and headphone jack
Easy upgrades and dust removal (I tell you this AW18 is a pain in the behind to repaste..)
etc etc
Can`t wait for a review from Striker and other sites
-
For 17.3" I think they will just go with 4K instead of 3K if there will be such SKU. But so far we haven't hear anything yet.
-
And to know in pleasant surprise that these are not just branding gimmicks!
-
That is an understatement if I have ever heard one LOL - the keyboard is awesome and the speakers sound great and are loud - loud enough to where I can enjoy the music I am playing while I play my games

I am a bit disappointed in the SSD stripe set performance. I was looking to something closer to 2000MB/s than 1500MB/s... perhaps I am greedy
I assume this is due to the SATA controller being fed off just two PCIe lanes, just guessing based off the numbers.
Another strange thing I am noticing on the GT72s is (at least at ExoticPC only place I found where I could configure a GT72 for the time being) is customizing the specs of the 010 model to the same specs as the 007 it is cheaper by over a $100. Any word on why and how this would effect the MSI global warranty? -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Hey Ken, how is your GT72 video review going? We want it NOW!
Yeah, SuperRAID 3 doesn't appear to be much faster than SuperRAID 2, but this should change with the introduction of HM97. Also another factor may be the M.2 SSD itself, and how Toshiba performs against the competition. If customizing your GT72 is $100 cheaper, why question it..... sounds like a plan to me!
Remember though, all of the resellers here will price match, and I believe Gentech PC currently has a promotion to add 2 more 128 M.2 SSD's, for only $79..... and even with a 32GB RAM upgrade, it's cheaper yet. Also, if you purchase from an authorized MSi reseller, customizing will not affect your warranty. However, the parts replaced by customization carries the resellers warranty, while the rest of the system still continues with MSI's warranty.
-
Well....I am not sure how to explain, run into some very minor issues and I think it was just one of the fan needs to be replace, not a big deal really:
