Meh..... really guys? That was but one of these newly released notebooks and I think the video hardly establishes the norm for this model..... and ambient temps have to be factored in. I always see red flags when I see someone touting such assumptions verses other brands (polite trolling), and the jury is really out on what can be expected of this notebook. When making your observations, were all things equal in the testing? I think Ken's testing environment (81F) was a bit warm, and this single unit may run a bit cooler with a simple repasting. Personally when it's a gaming notebook, regardless of brand, I normally do this simply for GP and peace of mind.

I just received the GT70 0NE-276US (still factory paste), and while logging temps (home ambient temp is 74F) with GPU-Z in the background, the highest average temp with Vantage or 3DMark11 (Turbo off) was 74C..... with a couple spikes at 76C. Though these benchmarks do not OC per se', they do stress the GPU to 100%. I find this very consistent with my GT783 580M, and with a repasting I expect this model to run a few degrees cooler, we'll see.

Also, I am sure OC and FurMark runs are soon to come.

Anyhow, I think before we can draw any conclusions here, more data and feedback is needed...... and when making comparisons, all things should be equal.

    :)

For those of you who have this, what is the weight of the gt60 with just the battery and ODD? And what might it weigh with an SSD and slim HDD and ODD? I am debating between this and the sager, and the weight troubles me a bit for I must tote my laptop in college (not often though). Thanks again guys! :D

Yeah the GTX680M is a hot card no doubt but 84C is not hot and even in to the lower 90's is fine. This used to be normal it is just that cooling owned mid ranged cards for quite a while so we are not used to seeing temps near the 90's anymore these days.
But the good thing is that its got enough power that the chances for having a need to overclock are quite small, and in my experience overclocking never gave a huge boost to any card unless it was a BIG overclock usually reserved for overvolting mods and thus really only capable of being done in desktops.

And if you look at the other 'new' option for that model....its being sold directly from Amazon, but not yet in stock. When I emailed EXCaliberPC they said it would ship within 24 hours. If I ordered one It would still probably be through Gentech since they offer configuration with better wi-fi cards, displays, etc., and actually have a dead pixel guarantee which is important to me.

Just wanted to pop in here and give a public "Thank You" to Ken from GentechPC. He shipped very quickly, and although I haven't spent much time with it, certainly appears that he did a great job with it. I will post some benchmarks up later. I can say after a quick 20 mins of Prime95 without the turbofan on the CPU temp based off RealTemp only hit approx. 82 degrees across all 4 cores. I will attempt again for a longer duration and with turbofan on.

    Hello
That's a great topic. I haven't heard much about the noise though.
I am hesitating getting an Asus G75 or this MSI. I know the MSI is more powerful but I pay attention to the noise level and the quality feel.
For those who own a MSI, what are your opinions about it ?
    Thanks.

If you use the turbofan feature it does get somewhat loud. I will edit this post with an exact reading with an SPL meter later.

With an ambient temp of ~24-25c and with turbofan on, after approx. 1 hour of Prime95 using the Large FFT for maximum heat the temp never went above 73c.
    1 Hour Prime 95 In-place Large FFT.jpg

Also, I received a 3dMark11 score of 6109 and graphics score of 6050. Max temp for GPU was 75c without turbofan on. You can see that here NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16F3 score: P6109 3DMarks

    More to come!

I could dump it with GPU-Z, but I want to flash my GTX 580M to a GTX 675M for the Optimus BIOS.

The Alienware, Clevo, and 4GB MSI 675M BIOSes are readily-available; but I'd prefer to use a 2GB MSI one.

When I purchase a Clevo 680M, I'll flash it to a MSI BIOS as well.

Ahhhhhh, Ok, now I understand....... Good Luck!

Who ever has a 675M, they may need to dump it with the latest NVFlash. Unless there is a newer version, GPU-Z wouldn't dump the 680M. Just a thought.....

    Just as an FYI:
Newegg is now carrying the GT60 with 680m and it is listed as being in stock...however, it looks like they have mistakenly listed it as having two 128gb SSDs in raid as well as a 750gb HDD.

Ok... so after weeks of deliberation, I have finally made a decision and submitted my order! It took me awhile but I chose to go with MSI over Sager after hearing about laptop sound problems with the NP9150s and issues with the 7970M /w Enduro (even though I went with the 680M) but I can't wait for my laptop! I was leaning more towards the NP9150 in the beginning because I could configure one for the same price with an i7 3720qm, but I think in the end that won't make a large difference from the 3610qm, plus the MSI looks much better! Well, it depends. Did I really NEED to use the turbofan, not really but it does demonstrate the efficiency of the fan. Remember, from a previous post the CPU hit ~82c within 20mins of Prime95 Large FFT, whereas the same test after being run for an hour only hit ~73c. Neither temp is anywhere near the TJMax.

If I was somewhere that had a high ambient temp I would be more inclined to use the turbofan, although the GPU temp never exceeded ~75c while benchmarking with 3dmark11 with no turbofan. Maybe gaming sessions lasting longer than 1 hour. Again, it depends on you and the temps you are comfortable with.

Keep in mind these temps are from a system that does not have the stock thermal compound.

I would never use the turbofan while watching a movie or office work.

    Hope this answers your questions.

I want to, but the 670M heatsink does not look like it matches up with the 680m. The die isn't even the same, 670M is rectangle shape while the 680M is more square.

So, I'm looking for a 680M heatsink, but appears only way to get one is through warranty work (at this time).

The GTX680M does work (well) with the GTX670M heatsink, i got very great temps actually, just need to work out the correct thermal pads layout but if you look at my sig, I initially had a GTX670M fitted.
