I am not sure about flashing vbios for regular driver but for modded driver , you have to flash prema. Also dont forget to create system restore point, becoz if you will get black screen , only possible to open computer with removing card or with restore point. I forget it and didnt want to format windows. Therefore i removed card

    Hi gsk_1905!
I have the very same problem that you have.
For example with 3DMark the benchmarks didn't have this issue under Windows 8.1, with Windows 10 the benchmark got stuck in 60fps, I've changed drivers, used nVidiaInspector to manually change the values that can block going over 60fps, nothing worked.

I'm also having a problem with the nVidia drivers, just with 353.62 I can play Dx9 games, for newer games (Dx11) the newer drivers works fine, but with older games that I still play nowadays, they crash when the app try to be full screen in windowed mode works whit some glitchs, it's a very weird problem.

I’ve contacted NVidia to try to fix this issue, but up to now nothing…

Oh yeah, thank you for reminding me about creating a restore point. I'm just trying to stay away from modded divers and things like that. The op stated the cards are full plug and play. You just need to have the right bios and firmware version. He did mention something about vbios...

The prema vbios does unlock a lot of the fun tweaking options too.

Yeah but svl7 vbios is also unlock and runs much cooler than prema vbios.. anyways it's the option of the user which vbios he wishes to use though hehe..

Anyways, is there are any news with windows 10 with its latest build 10586? Can it run older games? like dx9 in full screen?

I've only tested one game on DX9 in a Windows 10 environment (Resident Evil 5), and it ran fine. Of course that doesn't speak to things ubiquitously, i.e. YMMV.

Cooling running will mean less performance.

Not at all. because svl7 and prema's vbios both "have unlock and fun tweaking options" the difference is Premas' vbios voltage is a bit high compared to svl7. 3d voltage is 1.0 vs 0.93 voltage.

On Idle I get 50 degrees celsius for Premas vbios vs. svl7 which I only get 38-40 degrees celcius. And the good thing is that both vbios that I tried are tweaked with the same settings.
While running dx12 games for Prema's vbios I get maximum of 95 degrees and up vs. 85-90 degrees on svl7. for dx 9-11 games my gpu runs much cooler like 60-70 degrees on svl7 vbios vs. 70-80 degrees for premas vbios.

I've tried both and both vbios are good. For me I had enough of too much overclocking as this will lead to your sudden MXM gpu's life cycle.

Where do you get the SVL7 bios and how do you flash it? I gotta say, I'm interested, but at the same time, I'm a bit nervous about mucking with it now given my history with the card. :D

Tech inferno most likely, and lower voltages = lower max clocks = less performance ;)

If you are interested in undervolting at stock then that is different.

I didn't undervolt the gpu. That's the stock voltage of 970m which svl7 unlocked the settings. Prema's vbios overvolt a bit. But heat issue is the hindrance when overclocking your gpu too much and there's only a difference of 20 - 50mhz increase in memory or gpu, so I think it's not a good idea to oc a gpu with 1.0 volt unless you're using a watercool system with your gpu just to make your nb stable.

How much benefit do you get for switching to another bios, regardless if it's Prima or slv7?

If you benchmark your 980m with firestrike for svl7 you get 8k. For Prema you get 8.5k. That's the advantage of Premas vbios, you can max out the oc of your gpu, But it's only good in benchmarking and its not stable in other games especially when it comes to dx11 - dx12, because of the heat it generates. That's why you have to balance everything so your gpu is stable in all games and won't crash.

So it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of point to me flashing it then. I don't care about benchmark performance - I just want to game, have it look good, and not burn my hands. :D

Hey everyone, I just finished installing my new gtx 980m in my gt60-2od. Installed it fine and booted up fine. I started to play the witcher 3 for about 5 to 10 minutes and the temp shot up to 84 to 86 degrees and remained there. Is that normal?

That's good to hear. I thought it might have been a little too quick to heat up like that. Did you purchase the same gpu from the link provided frim rjtech? The reason I am asking is because on my gpu on the back after you take off that metal plate there are 2 blue strips along with that x bracket on the back side. I wasn't sure what they are so I removed the blue strips. Was I supposed to remove those? I thought they kind of looked like thermal pads but wasn't sure of their purpose.

They are thermal pads and only to be used when contacting a chip to a heatsink.

Has anyone else had trouble installing windows 10. I'm getting a C1900101-20017 error when it restarts. I have a GT60 2pc with a 970m installed and prima mod.

I wouldn't worry about it, those temps are normal. 85 -86 is the target for the cooling system in order to keep your notebook a little quieter. A good way to check if your cooling properly is to push the turbo fan button when you think it might be too hot. If the fan ramps up and the temps go down just let the computer do its thing. If the fan is already maxed and the temps don't budge then you might have a cooling issue.

    hi folks
after nearly a year or more of upgrading our laptops to the mighty 980m . i think we need to step to the next level
1 - i personally won't do it and i will wait for the pascal cards , but do you think it's possible to upgrade our gt70/60 to the 980 laptop version ? i mean i've seen it . it's a mxm card but a little wider than usual .would it fit ?
2 - what would we expect of the pascal cards ? when would it drop ? would it fit in our laptops ? would it be suitable in terms of power ?
    please share your thoughts :D

980/970m is the last upgrade for our nb. Next model you referring to pascal will have a different mxm board layout as this will eat more than 100 watts of power.

My Clevo 970m card finally arrived. (bought from the store in the OP).
I will try to put it into my MS-1761 (Force 1761 - SandyBridge i7-2630QM CPU and 570M GPU).

The first thing is dremeling down the heatsink, which seems rather straightforward. I hope to do it today.

The tricky part seems to be the BIOS and EC versions(current ones: BIOS: E1761IG6 ver.3.06
EC: 1761EG61 ver.4.04). I might try if the current ones I have are actually working with the new GPU before making any changes.
If not, XoticPC, where I bought the laptop sent me the latest version of the BIOS & EC, which I will upgrade to (E1761IG6.30H and 1761EG61.405)

If that does not work, then you Svet suggested I could crossflash to the latest one retail 30H:
    http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GT783GT783R.html#down-bios
    This is riskier.

If these doesn't work can I try the modded INF files then?

Do these sound ok to you guys?

Your system is barebone version and you can't use the BIOS/EC on website.
But if Svet helps you to update it then it's fine to let him do it for you.
    30H & 1.405 are the latest version.

Hey guys, I posted earlier in the thread about upgrading my 680m to a 970m successfully in my MSI GT70 0NE.

I am currently trying to learn a little bit about the modified INF file that was necessary to get my drivers working correctly. Right now I am running 353.82 drivers which are a little dated. I have some FPS issues in a few older games and I would like to see if upgrading my drivers will help at all. Am I able to upgrade drivers straight to the newest release from Nvidia in any way? Or is the modifed INF only compatible with the driver set it is released with? Basically, am I stuck with the 353.82 drivers permentantly?

Alright so after educating myself a little further, and learning how to properly make my own INF, I've upgraded to the latest Nvidia 359.00 drivers. I ended up making a new nv_dispi.inf and an nvmii.inf with the same additions. It installed properly, and games run just fine with no issues. Additonally, a few weeks earlier after I successfully made the card upgrade, I had stated that my onboard card no longer ran, and my laptop constantly ran off the new GPU. This is now fixed with this latest driver upgrade. The onboard now properly runs when not in game.

under device manger. is there an exclamation mark under display driver? That is the hardware of your 970m. I know that GX660 nb is PnP when you upgrade your mxm gpu card. You should update your bios to the latest one. Ask Talon also cos he used to have a gx 660 and upgraded its gpu before he sold the unit along time ago though. Other than that the rest is easy installing your 970m

    Hello everyone,

I have a GT60 0NC-004US with a 3rd Generation Intel® Ivy Bridge Core™ i7-3610QM. The BIOS is the latest from MSI: E16F3IMS.30U and the EC Firmware is 16F3EMS1.414. I am running windows 10 x64. I have installed a 970m, booted into safe mode windows, ran DDU, booted into disabled driver signing windows, and installed nvidia driver with modded inf from laptopvideo2go. I accept the invalid signature request (install anyway) and the driver install succeeds. Then I reboot and when I get into windows it's a black screen with no cursor, just no display output at all it seems.

Is there a step I missed? Does it need a special vbios (it came with prema)? Does the 970m not work with the 30U bios? Where would I get bios/firmware to support it?

    Thanks in advance

Hei agian. found out how to get my gtx 970m installed!!!!!
I had to rewrite some .INF files. Sounds complicated. Never even tried anything like this, but took me 5 min and it was al done [IMG] really easy to. Here is a youtube video that shows you how. Worked like a charm!!!

    Hello Charles!

I own the exactly model GT60 0NC-004US (it came with Windows 7 x64).
I've upgraded to a GTX 980M (Clevo board I've bought from RJ Tech).

For my system I've updated to the BIOS 51X and EC T18.
I only had this issue of black screen when I tried to flash the MSI VBIOS into the GTX 980M.
I had no problems with the stock Clevo or Prema VBIOS.
Where do you get you GTX 970M?

You can talk with SVET about what combination of BIOS and EC FW you have to flash in your system.

Now I'm using the Windows 10 Pro x64, the only driver that worked flawlessly was 353.62, none above this is working properly, I got lots os TDRs and Driver crashes during long gameplays.

In case of doubt this forum is very helpfull, just ask, there's always somebody skilled to help you!

    Hi Guys!

I just like to share with you something that happened to me last week.

In the beginning of the last week, my GT60 shut down right on my face, even it was connected in AC, I realized that the cable has somehow damaged internally.
This laptop is 3 years old, but she still a great friend!

I’m an electronic technician, so I decided to rebuild the connector, it isn’t pretty, but it worked…

But after that I realized the not only the cable was damaged, the power connector was kind of loose, the lead free solder has some problems with mechanical stress, so I had to unassemble the GT60 entirely, I’ll confess that I had some butterflies in my stomach during the process.

I removed the motherboard and renewed the solder from the power jack, the inside and outside terminals, just to make sure everything will be ok.
Reassembled the GT60 and also cleaned everything inside it.

During the reassemble I saw that my GT60 has two LED bars in the front of the laptop, but since I bought it I never saw this LEDs working.

After the successfully reassembled GT60 and tested everything and start to breathe again, I was wondering what type of LEDs they are, since in my GT60 manual that holes were described as Speakers…

Well I searched a lot and a previous version of the gaming series GX and GT660R has a lot of bar LEDs, and one of them was very similar to the ones in my GT60.

So I’ve downloaded the SLM (MSI LED Manager) and for my surprise the LED bars could be activated.
There are three modes, Audio/Breathing/Permanent On.
The software can be download in this link: http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/nb/led_manager_7_nb.zip
I liked it with the LEDs breathing.

I don’t know if anybody here already knew about it, I just liked to share with you guys.

    Hi DMTwo,

Thank you for the response. What was your bios originally? It seems like this may not have a uefi bios and therefore I cannot flash the 50x or 51x firmwares. The board I bought was this http://www.ebay.com/itm/nVidia-GeFo...320454?hash=item280c9d3246:g:3w4AAOSwLVZVvV3Q minus the heatsink.

I messaged SVET and am talking with him now. Thank you for your help.

Just an update, Svet is writing a custom BIOS for us to try out. Svet rocks, will report back with results.

Can someone tell me if the wide viewing angle edp display is IPS or TN? I'm looking at possibly getting another GT60 barebones with a 970m and it comes with the updated wide viewing angle display and 2x display port.

I have completed the installation and it seems I can't get anything to use the GTX 970m. I have even set the global settings in NVIDIA control panel to always use nvidia graphics processor. Has anyone experienced this before? Any recommendations?

Edit: I am running the latest nvidia drivers installed with a modded INF.

Edit 2: Success (somewhat)! I have downloaded the MSI 970M drivers for the GS60 (win10x64) from this link http://download.msi.com/nb_drivers/vga/Win10x64_HDA(353.28)_10.18.13.5328.zip, booted to safe mode and ran DDU to clean things up, modded the INF to include my Hardware IDs, booted into disabled driver signing mode, installed, and it seems to have fixed my issue. I am running some benchmarks now!

Edit 3: I have some screen tearing and everything is locked in at just below 60fps. Looking around in the thread now for other solutions. Will post a full write-up with details soon.

    Thank you

That's IPS-like technology called HVA, and it's not TN.

Win10 has its advantage and disadvantage, it really depends.
But should you want to upgrade to Win10, pretty much most of the devices have Win10 drivers so you shouldn't run into any major issues with them.
Win10 has been released for awhile so the most critical kinks should have been addressed by Microsoft already.

Let me first thank Talon and everyone else who worked on this tutorial for all the fantastic information and assistance with this mod. I'm not sure if someone has already asked/pointed this out, but I am seriously considering upgrading my GT70 2PE with a 980m and when I attempted to download the MSI vBIOS for it, the MEGA informed me that the file had been removed. Is there any way I can still get a hold of the vBIOS files? Please let me know, if possible.

    Thanks again!
