Hey Marko, the 980m vBIOS isn't necessary for your particular laptop. The 980m will be plug and play with the latest MSI system BIOS and EC firmware. You will only be required to modify the heatsink per this threads instructions.

Hey guys,
I've got my clevo 970m and got a gtx780m heatsink to go into my Force 1761.
Done the modification to the new heatsink, installed the card in and booted up the machine to see if it works with the current setup.
The nvidia driver scan catches that it is a 970m and CPU-Z as well.
However when trying to install the 970m driver from the nvidia page the installer said: The graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.
So I guess the next step is to update the BIOS and EC to the latest one (which in my case is 1761EG61.405 and E1761IG6.30H).
Is there something I should be aware before I start with this?
Should I flash the BIOS or the EC first?Last edited: Dec 5, 2015 -

What version of Nvidia driver is this? If you got the driver from Nvidia's website then make sure it is intended for mobile GPUs instead of desktop GPUs.
However, if problem persists then you will need to unzip the installation package and then modify the INF file to allow the system to accept the driver installation. -
Sorry I think you misunderstood me a bit. I meant to say updating the bios and ec to those I have mentioned. My current ones are E1761IG6.306 and 1761EG61.404.
So I guess before I am modifying any INF files i should try that update, right?
If yes, should I have the old or the new graphics card in at the update, or does it matter? -

I went ahead and tried the INF file business.
I used the link from the OP as I purchased a Clevo 970m as well ( http://laptopvideo2go.com/drivers?dev=13D8&sub=110C1462&whql=0&lang=0&orderby=version&dir=desc&os=&os[]=win8x64)
Since I am running win 7 64bit, I've selected that and downloaded the latest driver which was 305.53 (2012-08-02) which seems quite old. Downloaded the INF file and overwritten the INF in the \305.53_win7x64\Display.Driver\.
Restarted the computer with pressing F8, and selected the 'disable digital driver signing' menu option. Then when the windows loaded I went ahead and launched the setup.
However...
Have I done anything wrong? or in the wrong order?
What else can I try?
Do I need to use a different search term here?
if yes where can I get the number?
thanks a lot for any help in advance guys.
edit:
not sure if it matters or not but in device manager the card only show up as Standard VGA graphics adapter:

Oh yes. It's extracted, and I copied the inf file into that folder. (I couldn't run the setup without it probably
Thanks a lot Omega that would be a big help!
I've used the 305.53 version as with the search terms for win7 that was the newest. If you think I can use a newer one let me know (the 305.53 is from 2012 after all). (however I am still not 100% sure those search terms that the opening post provided applies to me as well)
Attaching that INF file.

It is also important to make a fresh lnstall of your driver.. You must download
"Display Driver Uninstaller".. Google it first before installing Nvidia driver.. -

YES!!! you can use the latest driver... If this work then next time you want to download a new driver and want me to mod a file for you just tell me. -
Hello!
I've done everything, step by step like in the tutorial, and I can't get my GTX970m to work.
MSI GT70 0ND
MS-1762 Ivy bridge
sys. bios: E1762IMS.10M
Had GTX 675mx, upgrade to clevo GTX970m
actual MSI vbios 84.04.22.00.06
Win 7
I don't understand only that part where the author mention about 71x and 51x unlocked bios. Where I can find them? Can someone explain it to me like to a monkey?
PS: English in not my native and maybe this is a cause why I dont understand that part.
Edit: Just found that... this is exact problem just like mine. This is post http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-upgrade-thread.765058/page-221#post-10041451
" I cant install the nvidia drivers without the screen just getting stuck on the windows login. I can hear it load windows and go to my desktop but the screen doesnt move. After installing the nvidia drivers it tells me that the Intel card couldnt find enough resources to start."
Edit2: Probably found resolution, this post and couple next explain the thing.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/ms-1762-trouble-upgrading-to-780m.760347/page-6#post-9820307
Edit3: Windows starts normally , driver instalation without a problem but system does not use gtx970m. Also cant force to use 970 trough nvidia panel. It's visible in manager and in nvidia panel or geforce experience but system always use intel hd 4000.
actual EC 1762EMS1.24T
actual sys bios E1762IMS.51X I am not sure if it is unlocked version because almost all the futures are hidden. e.g. in E1762IMS.10M I could choose primary display adapter iGFX/PEG/PCI/SG - switchable graphic
As I recall, when my old 675mx was still alive the power button was always white, in bios and on windows start up. Also basic function like windows desktop was running on integrated card. Now only in bios it is white. When windows start to load before even seeing the desktop button turns orange.
Edit4: Ok, it works I think. I went back to stock clevo vbios. I made back up before doing anything. I couldnt install any drivers so I made custom .ini and installed 345.20. I couldnt make .ini for newer drivers dont know why. They just didnt work. 3 times those 354.20 drivers crashed. But know they work stable I think. I'll stress-test them and write how it ended.Last edited: Dec 7, 2015 -
I will try it out tonight for sure. I'll let you know the results -
As I said, I did some stress-tests and gtx 970m works stable with 345.20 but... yep there is always "but", I cant play Starwars Battlefront because it needs 358.50 or later version
-
I managed to install the 305.53 driver with your help.
The 970m appears in the device manager as a display adapter finally.
However the status of it is: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
The second thing is GPU-Z lists 3GB of memory, and I ordered a 6GB version. Now I am worried that I haven't got the one I ordered, or could it be misread by GPU-Z?
I've checked the hardware ID in the device manager and it was slightly different than the one than what was through the link in the opening post ( http://laptopvideo2go.com/drivers?d...g=0&orderby=version&dir=desc&os=&os[]=win8x64)
Here is what I have:
I've got the INF file for this one (not sure if it is any different). Here a link to it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B10Nr_SEBm64UkdlNG4zLTVlVms/view?usp=sharing
What do you think the next step would be?
Deeply appreciate all the help you've given me! -

Try adding that device ID into the driver, also you can't trust detection when:
A) You are only using one program
or
B) Your drivers are not properly installed
-
Did you update your bios with the latest one? I think that old NVidia driver is causing the issue. try downloading the latest NVidia driver (359.12) and gpuz.
I am using NVidia 359.12, the latest one but my windows version is 8.1.
Post again your "nvdispi.inf" here and let me mod It for you.Last edited: Dec 9, 2015 -
And I'd love to have the latest Nvidia drivers on the laptopvideo2go for this search term are only for Win10:
Now I would be ok to use Win10 if there is no other way. (I wanted to install that later anyway)
But if you say it would work on Win7 I am happy to try.
I went ahead to get the INF file. Tried both 32 and 64bit but when I click on the Click here to download modified INF file: " Error: The requested address '/infs/355series/35912_win10x64/nv_dispi.inf' was not found on this server."
Pff :S Can you please try to download? ( http://laptopvideo2go.com/drivers?dev=13D8&sub=110C10DE&whql=0&lang=0&orderby=version&dir=desc&os=)
The latest I could get from there was the 358.91 version (win10 64bit). The INF file for that is here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_h8jJ65829UMnA5VUZMLTFSa1k/view?usp=sharingomega939 likes this. -
Just download the latest nvidia driver for windows 7 if it is in nvidia website, extract the files and get the nv_disp file under Display driver settings. Then post it here. No need to check the inf fiile in laptopvideo2go.
And by the way, if you want to have you bios unlock with all the goodies settings there. seek "svet" in msi forums. he can unlock the settings for you with a little donation. -
Version number: 359.06
OS: Win7 64bit
Here is the INF file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_h8jJ65829UczRxR21fMVBFQlU/view?usp=sharing
Yes, thanks I was already in contact with Svet. He helped me finding the latest BIOS for my computer and would unlock it if needed. So far I just wanted to get things working before unlocking stuff I might not even use.

Make sure that your vbios Hardware ID is " 13D8" or else this file won't install successfully. -
Sorry, I haven't actually launched a game. I am just so psyched that the "device is working properly" and the rest of the stats look good also
edit: launched Dota 2, and everything looked great. So glad you guys helped out. I am eternally grateful.Last edited: Dec 10, 2015 -
Check your GPU core clock with Nvidia Inspector or MSI Afterburner - that 540 isn't right.
-
Should I be worried? -
-
-
I'm Confused.. Where is "540" on that GPU-z? Oh.. I've seen that ss .. Yeah Talon is right. It's normal because you're not running 3d apps or games. the gpu is on 2d mode. Upside of Maxwell is that it runs much cooler than previous gpu's of Nvidia
-
Yes, nice figures, working. GPU-Z reads the default clock wrong/differently on Maxwell compared to Kepler and Fermi. So Nvidia Inspector is the best tool to get the right figures. GPU-Z sensor tab shows yet the current clocks ok.

So am I understand that I do actually need to upgrade my BIOS for this mod? The BIOS for the GT70 Dominator Dragon Pro Edition is E1763IMS.518/718, the same as the one used in the working test for the GT70 2PE. Would I be safe using that one? As for the EC Firmware, I have no clue. If no one knows the answer to this I'll contact Svet, but I'm not too concerned about unlocked BIOSs and such. I just want to know if my rig is fully compatible with the 980m before purchase. -

Question for those who have a GT70 - MSI 1762 Ivy Bridge.
Did you try installing the video card with publicly available .50x bios before installing the .51x, and what issues did you run into?
I found this post in another thread: http://www16.zippyshare.com/v/97429727/file.html
It contains the .51x bios for the GT70 MSI 1762 machine. It also contains a T24 EC.
Has anyone tried this EC?
Has anyone tried running the .51X bios with the unlocked T18 EC posted in the MSI forums?
I have a 970M on the way and I am trying to determine what does and does not work now so i dont have to experiment and brick the machine. -

hi all has been awhile since i checked on the thread. but see very little about anyone upgrading to Win 10. I am having issues finding a driver that works . does anyone have any recommendations? thx .
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Which drivers have you tried?
-
Any idea where .51x originated from? I flashed it last night, it works, just curious. Specifically, what makes .51x different from .50x when I have heard several MSI tech on the forums claim that they dont white list video cards. Yet, .51x is required for the 9xx series card to work properly. -
-
When you say you are looking for a driver that works, can you elaborate on what exactly you are experiencing?

I need some help. I got a 970m, installed it.. Computer started, I modded the inf file to install the driver smoothly. No problems.
Now. It seems that optimus is not functional. The power button is always orange. If I add the Nvidia GPU Activity icon to the system tray I see that nothing is running on the dedicated GPU. If I start 3dmark, it does not indicate to be running on the dedicated GPU. Forcing it through the nvidia control panel doesnt do anything.
I have a MSI GT70(1762) running .51x bios, T24 EC on Windows 7.
If it matters I modified the nvmii.inf file.
Anyone run into this?Last edited: Dec 21, 2015 -

Install the latest version of Intel HD Graphics from Intel's website, and then Nvidia graphics driver after.
