Ok. After trying a ton of things I did finally get it to work and I have Kevin Wong of Gentech PC to thank.

He gave me the updated BIOS and Firmware for the laptop which finally allowed the GPU to communicate with the monitor.

Since the BIOS and Firmware I had were not developed for Win 10, the hardware wasn't communicating correctly.

So with that, Kevin has my utmost gratitude.

On another note, MSI really ought to provide the updated BIOS and EC Firmware for whitebooks on their site to make it easier to keep things up to date.

I only lucked into seeing Kevin have the updated bios for another person on Notebook Review forums.

Good news. The Gentech guys are great and always helpful. Only ever purchased a LCD replacement from them but it was a smooth transaction. Would have purchased my 16L1 barebones from them had they had it.

$1549 out the door for the 1060. Where are you getting $2200?

Personally at this point I would 100% get the new system. This is a very powerful machine. You would also gain a 75hz gsync display and a much more powerful CPU.

    @Talon

Thanks for your reply. I am in Norway so the prices are way higher. If I ordered that and they sent it to me for $50 postage, I'd end up on $2050 after customs, so not much off $2200, the difference being I would receive it in like ... 3 weeks? at least and any possible service would be a hassle in the future.

So I guess it's a new one for me, but even there I have important decisions to make, as you can see here. Yeah Norway's expensive, but most people have a lot of money here. Well... not this guy, so I guess going for a $2k laptop is insanity..

    Hi,

    I have a 970M that throttes to 9xxMhz when it reaches 87º.

I want to upper or remove that term limit.

Does anybody now where to get an unlocked vbios of the 6GB 970M g sync version?

You should work on lowering the temperature, not raising the throttling limit. 970m is cool running in general, so you are running too hot. Are you overclocked? Maybe you need to repaste.

    So here's a question...

Does Optimus just not work with Windows 10? I have a GT60 2PC and am trying to use a GTX980M-G Sync, and the only way I have been able to get the card to turn on is in MSI Kombustor with the Intel 4600 graphics disabled, but it still does not work with any games. I have changed all of the NVidia control panel settings and tried every VBIOS and driver combination that I could find despite several dead links. I have a Windows 7 install disk that I could try, but I would really rather just keep W10.

This VBIOS is the only one that would allow the NVidia drivers to install. I am also using the 51A bios.

    Thanks in advance!

*I should add that it was working with this before I flashed the VBios, just not as fast as it should have been. Maybe I should have just locked the cpu?

I am not trying to use the gsync functionality. So am I still able to force the card to be on all the time or do I need a different GTX 980M?

If anyone can help with a VBIOS or anything it would be greatly appreciated!

It seems like there has to be a solution considering I can get it to work with Kombustor. I would be willing to make a donation to anyone who can mod a working VBIOS or anything else to get this card to work....

G-Sync doesn't work on Optimus laptops because it requires G-Sync monitor and refresh rate of 75Hz that are not compatible with any Optimus notebooks. You can read this article for more info.
    http://arstechnica.co.uk/gadgets/20...c-for-laptops-reveals-low-level-tech-details/
If your GPU works a little bit with G-Sync this is because of the VBios of the card itself before to flash it. Was your card a Clevo G-Sync GTX 980M with Clevo stock VBios when you bought it?

Optimus does not have a direct-connectivity from the dGPU to the internal monitor but certain Optimus models can using its DisplayPort since it's dGPU-direct.

you can try and ask prema to mod a vbios for you but to my understanding you cannot put an nvidia 9XX on a non v-sync hardware. You should have bought the non v-sync model.

Anyways try asking prema and if he does give him a DONATION. :)

Svet and I got it working with just new modded infs. The only vbios mods that could be made were to unlock the card, but because of the hardware id it could not autoinstall drivers. Optimus does appear to be working, however. I never expected the g-sync feature to work and the card I bought was never advertised as gsync. It was just a normal clevo 980m from a clevo laptop as far as I knew when I bought it.

On Optimus-enabled systems, your only chance for G-Sync to work is if it has a DisplayPort connector that is linked directly to the Nvidia GPU.

mine is working fine and is auto detected in www.NVidia.com

And it's got a hardware ID in it so drivers are PnP :)

You must have a 51x bios for your laptop. That's why it's crashing. 2nd if you solve the crashing problem you need to find out on how to do the .inf file mod for NVidia drivers so you can install the NVidia drivers properly.

If he has 70X (=RAID default) he needs 71X - and probably the corresponding EC 1762.T24, too. No problems with the drivers, Laptopvideo2go.com has Win 10 infs for recent drivers.

I have a problem with GTX 980M that I just installed to replace GTX 870M. The GPU was detected by the BIOS but in Device Manager I got an error 43 and an yellow exclamation mark. I installed the latest Nvidia drivers 375.70 but they are not working properly and when I open GPU-Z it shows almost nothing for the GPU info. I disabled driver signature enforcement but nothing changes, and the power button is always in red color which is on when Nvidia GPU is activated. Also, Optimus doesn't work on the new GPU. Can anyone help me to solve this weird problem with GTX 980M? Thanks.

The BIOS version is 518 that should support the new GPU and the OS is W8.1 but I also tried W10 and the same problem error 43 and the yellow exclamation mark does exist. May be I have to modify the driver but the whole procedure is complicated. I think that this is very strange problem because many users with the same laptop upgrade their GPU without problems and none of them had error 43 in the Device Manager under Display Adapter Nvidia GTX 980M. Also, I updated the Intel drivers but nothing changed. It is possible this Clevo 980M GPU to be incompatible with some MSI notebooks.

Eh bud long time here too Hehe... I would really love to see that 1070 in our laptops... Unfortunately it's size although mxm compliant cannot be put in the chassis. Plus the fact that it consumes more wattage than standard mxm board we have now.. Aside from that, all Pascal gpu's are G-sync compliant. our's is non Gsync.. The only Pascal I can see that can fit in our nb chassis is the GTX1060. But if there are people here who is very eager to make the gtx1060 work, you should fiddle the vbios or the bios or both on how a G-sync gpu card can work with a non-gsync system.

Drivers = NVidia, unless you need a modded one. You may need to check out laptopvideo2go.com or overclock.net for a modded driver.

If you can't find vBIOS here, try the NBR Clevo forum or techinferno.com forums.

See if the vbios and driver downloads on the links here work for you. If so, let me know and I have a way to use newer drivers. I had a similar issue a couple of months back.

EDIT: alternatively, tell me the hardware id of the card you are trying to make work.

There's one more problem with the pascal gpus. it doesn't support LVDS connection which is the way our LCD panel is connected to the motherboard. That's the main problem and we cannot upgrade with this model. Our only hope is to see if the new AMD Polaris 9550e mxm is much better than a gtx1060.

GT70/60 uses "PS8625" chip to convert eDP to LVDS. GPU is connected to intelHD. We have Optimus so eDP/LVDS is not an issue. If you check your built-in display info in intelHD drivers, it's detected as eDP display.
    The way it's connected is : dGPU->iGPU->PCH->LVDS
Chinese got 1060 working in optimus Clevo with LVDS display.
They used Premas' modded BIOS. Machine didnt POST with stock BIOS

No idea if we need some BIOS mod for our MSI. If yes, let's pray Svet can do it, since Prema is not supporting MSI.
I've ordered the card and I'm waiting for it to arrive. I'll test it then.

There are two types of processors for the gt series, ivy bridge and haswell. I did it many times and under Intel HD properties it indicates an LVD and not EDP for ivy bridge. I hope youre right and im wrong. can hardware info detect that chip."8625"? or u have any other means to find out?

Oh ok then, I have 4th gen and it detects eDP in intelHD. I took the machine apart and there is physical LVDS, no signs of eDP connector.
BTW, HDMI is connected directly to dGPU, so at least external screen should work.
I'll test it as soon as the card arrive, until then, it's all just speculations.

AlltooGrim, thanks for your suggestion, I tried the link and the driver that you post but it didn't work. I disabled Secure Boot and I enbabled Test Mode in W10 X64 which allows to install unsigned drivers but nothing works. I got this error permanently: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43). The Hardware lds are:
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&SUBSYS_11311462&REV_A1
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&SUBSYS_11311462
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&CC_0300

On the Status in Device Manager I got this messages:
    01802400
    DN_HAS_PROBLEM
    DN_DISABLEABLE
    DN_NT_ENUMERATOR
    DN_NT_DRIVER
I tried almost everything, including updating and reverting different BIOS versions, installing latest Nvidia drivers but nothing works. All drivers are installed correctly without any error messages, but Nvidia Control Panel and GFE are not available on the taskbar.GPU-Z shows this info: Nvidia GTX 980M.gif

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] I have a MS-16f2 with a i7 2670QM
    BIOS: E16F2IG6.30P
    EC: 16F2EG61 v.4.22

So...after the ironic experience of my 570m dying while playing the game dying light after 5 years of unwavering service i found this thread and bought a Clevo 970m 6GB and modified my heatsink. Installed it yesterday and modified the nvidia drivers inf files. Both nv_dispi.inf and nvmii.inf. Tried it with the latest drivers from nvidia and the latest driver from laptopvideo2go. Used nvidia uninstaller first in safe mode and i've disable forced driver signing and i'm running windows 10. I get the message: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) A service installation of this INF is invalid. I don't get it, i must've made a mistake modding the inf file?

Hi! I just upgraded my MSI GT70 with a 970m. Or I thought I did?! After I installed NVIDIA GeForce Experience my PC showed that I only have a GTX 870m? How could this be? The heatsink is from a GT60 2QD and it is one for a 970m. And my green MSI GTX card I used (got it from ebay from mokkin) looks like a real 970m. But why did the NVIDIA programm installed the wrong driver for my Windows 10 PC. Does anybody have a real explanation for this? Please no jokes. I used the right hardware! I really need help. What went wrong???

Hi Beiml. Is GTX 970M recognized in Device Manager? Do you have any errors under Display Adapters in Device Manager? Did you try to install the latest Nvidia driver-375.95? What is your current BIOS?

Take a screenshot what GPU-Z tells of your card.

just on the off chance does anyone know whether I can upgrade my 680m to a 970m and what it involves as I have started to get some lag on more recent game releases now.I have found an msi 970m card going for a good price so as long as I can do the upgrade I don't mind purchasing it.
