    It's just a bit faster than 680M.

    Hey Y'all

Does anyone know the function of the 4 audio output connectors on the right side of the GT60? I only use the one closest to the user, for headphones, but I've always wondered what the other 3 do. The one right next to the one closest to the user has a mic symbol, so that's for the mic, but the other 2?

So I was able to get a Dell 240W from a buddy with a broken Alenware for free and solder the old dc plug onto the board and.... No change. Well, at least it is cooler and a little more efficient theoretically.

I have a 1070 on the way that I was able to pick up for $340 and was wondering if anyone who has done the swap into a GT60 has had to flash the vbios?

wow! This is a very low price, would you share a link of the seller, if it is an online thing?
Which variant did you get? Dell/Quadro? Or something different?
Depends, but modded .inf files of Nvidia drivers for sure.

The guy only had one, I believe it is a Zotac card from what I was seeing here.
This is by making the product ID exist in the .inf, correct?

    Yes, looks like Zotac's.
More or less - there are many articles how to do it.

It appears that Windows 11 won't be supported on the 4th Gen Intel GT60s/70s (because of a minimum requirement of TPM 2.0), anyone have any more information on this?
I know this thread is not for Windows support, but there really isn't another place I can bring this up and have a conversation about these "old" laptops.
    Thanks.

Yes, it is best if the product ID is included in the inf file. If not, it can also be easily remedied. I gave up the MSI vbios file because of + 10W and modified the driver. I replaced the MSI vbios with a Lenovo one.
((Good thing it's an rtx5000 card, of course, but it doesn't matter why.))

Let me just get a sanity check real quick. Trying the 1070, it is not recognized at all by bios or gpuz, and 30 seconds after boot the fans max out. Card is bad, right? Already had unlocked bios and my 980 works fine. Gt60 by the way.

Device Manager - Video Cards - Microsoft Generic Driver

What does the machine see? Nothing? Don't recognize the card? Is the mxm card warming up in place?

Yeah, nothing. Just the iGPU shows up in device manager. Not heating up. The only way it behaves differently from no card inserted is that the fan ramps up to 100.

    Hi folks!
I am an owner of MSI GT70 2QD laptop with I7-4710MQ, GTX970M and 16 GB RAM. BIOS and EC firmware are updated to most recent. I recently started to have problems with playing games. When GPU has been switched to GTX970M, after few minutes or even seconds laptop was turning off. I checked graphic card voltages, temperatures and... it was turning off at 63-65'C degrees. So that was not a problem with overheating. I have send my laptop to technical assistance to check it and eventually repair. They told me that GPU is broken and need replacement.
So i bought used GTX980M which was working previously in MSI GT72-2QE. After mounting new card in slot, putting new thermopads and repastig GPU i started my laptop. And problems began...
    What is happening?
    1. Laptop starts on embedded Intel VGA (power button is glowing white) and when Windows 10 starts to load VGA is switched to 980M (power button is glowing orange).
    2. When Windows is loaded fan starts to spin at full speed for few seconds and then slows down.
    3. Device Manager in Windows shows proper Nvidia GTX980M as a second card.
    4. There is no problem with Nvidia drivers, they are installed without problems. Card is recognised.
    5. Temperatures and voltages of GTX980M at idle are 55-60'C degrees (hot spot +/-12-15'C) - way too much.
    6. When i start any game (Doom Eternal, Everspace or any other) after few minutes temperatures are rising and eventually reach close to 100'C (hot spot 110-113'C) - thats too much. Games start to stutter and i am unable to play them.
    7. The biggest mistery for me is that my BIOS (when GTX980M is installed) shows that my laptop model is GT70 2OC/OD instead of GT70 2QD.
    8. When i install that broken GTX970M everything works fine and there is no problem (except i cannot play any games longer than few seconds or minutes).
Where is the problem with 980M? Heatsink is the same for 970 and 980. I used 1mm thermopads and good thermopaste. Do i need any other modifications? (BIOS, vBIOS, drivers)? Maybe someone have any solution?

I think I found 970m blue color right?

I'd buy it and found a nice video tut as well

Ive not replaced GPU before.. from videos I've seen and what I read I just need to this:

    - in the process of having 970M card
    - just need to get some paste to glue (I would love to see where exactly)
    - thermal pads
    - grind part of the heat sink to make new gpu fit and remove the metallic dust from grinding
    - While waiting for delivery where do I get correct firm and upgrade for MSI GT70 0ND-492US ?

The tutorials say a different version of bios mine says on Windows System Info: E1762IMS.50U

    https://www.msi.com/Laptop/support/GT70-0ND.html#down-bios

latest version there is 30U... so when video says some versions that I do not use, do I need to upgrade to these versions in the video no matter my current version or I need to get other Bios versions? trying not to brick my laptop

Oh no... see if in the video I posted you did things like that my biggest question is where do one get firmware versions last are from 2013, where are these 'newest versions' of bios/firm and are they the same or different for each MSI model? Any behavior like that means others can have it to.. yet some say they dont have probs after doing such modifications?

Have MSI vbios on it and everything will be fine. It's the easiest.
The motherboard bios I think doesn't matter at all.

    I have a 4.gen gt70 ..... I don't know for a 3.gen.
Trial luck. The driver can also be modified if necessary.
