It shows it has support for the memory companies below.
    GDDR5, Samsung
    GDDR5, Micron
    GDDR5, Hynix

Can you examine the memory ICs on your card to see if it's any of the memory companies on the list? If yes, be sure to back up the existing ROM, and then flash to the one you've.
It may not work so be prepared to revert back if it doesn't go through.

Just a quick note to say that I was reimbursed for this GTX 980M which was obviously toasted.
    https://www.ebay.fr/itm/nVidia-GTX980M-8GB-MXM-SLI-N16E-GX-A1-video-Graphics-card-for-notebook-laptop/223991746981?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
Thank you Paypal, because the seller did not want to know anything, or even accept the return.

    I just ordered this one:
    https://www.ebay.fr/itm/NEW-GTX-980M-Graphic-GPU-Card-N16E-GX-A1-8GB-GDDR5-Alienware-HP-Clevo-MSI-laptop/333128299741?ssPageName=STRK% 3 AMEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

Apparently, this one is new, unused but tested.

I can't wait to receive it and hope it works this time.
I took the fast delivery option ($ 35).
It's been more than 6 months that I want to upgrade my GTX 770M (tdp 75w), although it works very well with a modded vbios + big overclock.
Better than an 880m (tdp 100w), amazing how it works as well in overclocking. (+190/600)
    Passmark 10, my GTX 770m : 3823 , GTX 880M : 3063.

Nvidia no longer updates the drivers for this card and this is a problem, especially for vulkan.
In addition I am limited to 3Gb of Vram with the 770M, which is too fair (especially for X-Plane).

Thanks for trying to help me with this bad 980m and I will post again when I receive the new 980M.
I hope that the next step will be to adjust the vbios / driver, at least that will mean that the card works :)

(and again, sorry for my poor english :/)

    To conclude :
    New card received.
Installed, recognized immediately by my GT60 (Ivy Bridge, Bios 51x, EC T18).
    It's a Dell card.
Less than 5 minutes to modify the original vbios thanks to this excellent thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-and-play-drivers-gt60-70-ivy-bridges.789799/

    And everything is perfect!
    As with my old 770m.
    Except that this time:
    - Passmark 10: 7600
    - 8Gb VRam
    - latest api vulkan

On the other hand, 10 degrees more on average compared to the 770m (85 against 75).
Normal compared to the tdp (100w against 75w).

    What happiness.

A few more details, if it can help other members.

I initially only modded the original vbios (Dell) of my GTX 980m (to install the drivers), a Alienware replacement card (new).
As I always use headphones in game, it took me a while to realize that when optimus activates the dGPU, the fan always turns fully.

So I gave it a try with an MSI vBios. This time, the fan management is good, but another problem in many games (not all): the sound suffers from numerous micro-cuts.
It made me think of a post I read somewhere, from someone who had a GT + GTX 980m and who also had sound problems after gpu upgrade.
Surprisingly, it can come from GPU vBios ...

In the end, I changed the vBios again for a Clevo (the last one I think: 84.04.3E.00.01) and this time everything works correctly.
Available here, and already modded for official nvidia drivers. Another big thank you to DMTwo for its excellent thread.

To sum up, it is not that the vBios Clevo is the best, but it is simply the only one that works completely without any problem for me.

    Unfortunately, something is wrong.
The card received the MSI Max-Q Vbios. (Rev:A)
He's not coming up. You can't see your laptop. SG mode ..... the fan is spinning.
I have an open bios, lots of settings. In vain.
Is this over, or is there some other magic to hardware recognition?
What should I set up in the bios?

Hello, i have recently tried to upgrade my gtx 680m ( GT70 0NE) to gtx 980m. I cross flashed my bios to x71. then did the heatsink mod and swithced the cards. However, it boots normally, and at first didnt recoganize the card, after i updated the driver from the device manager, windows recognizance the gtx980m. However, when i try to install the most recent Nvidia Driver, it says the windows version is not compatible or the graphics card was not found. What could cause this problem?

I suppose you need a modified inf into your driver. And install using Disable driver signature enforcement.

Hey guys, fantastic work keeping these old girls going, kudos to you all.

Hopefully I can figure out whats wrong with mine with help from you all.

I have a MSI GT70 ONC, 1762 I7 3610qm came with a gtx670m or mx I believe.(os came with win7)(had bios 10u) Well few years back that video card died one day playing a game. Only solution i found was to remove card, but after a few minutes the fan would go full tilt.
I came to conclusion the card died and without a replacement, the bios would not allow normal operation. ( I know it can be fixed now by asking a gentleman named svet I believe, but did n't know that til recently)
I tried to live with it, even upgraded windows hoping it might help fan but nothing, i get why now. So my os had no memory of a nvidia card in system at this point as I reinstalled windows a few times.

Anyhow, I found this thread an managed to scrape enough cash to order a gtx970m 6gb an bring it in. I realize my heat sink is not compatable fully anyways. Though I did manage to cover most chips an bring the outside ones that didn't match up reasonably close an used thermal pads to bridge them temporarily until I was sure it was all working at least.

So through reading couple hundred pages here, an some at MSI and Tech, I'm now asking for help.
One thing I want to add is, after removing original video card, the laptop would boot up, light would be white but as windows started loading, it would turn orange even though there was no dgpu installed. No errors or anything, laptop was all ok except for no dgpu, an fan would go at full blast. If I reinstalled original video card, it wouldn't post or even flicker a light, when I removed it, normal laptop operation outside of power button turning orange would resume once up an running.

SO I really thought ok np, order a video card. I do and seller puts tested working sticker on it dated just before sending.
I kind of believe it is and will explain in round a about way but is not showing at all anywhere in device manager or hwinfo.

Tried installing new gtx970m using 10u bios, no recognition of card upon booting, but the laptop would boot an run with card installed where it wouldn't at all with original. This gave me hope, the light behaved as it would before without any video card, white on start up but once windows started loading, orange.

So, i referenced this thread, find that most have success with the 1762.51x an t24 ec.
I install both from a bootable dos drive, no problem.. though still nothing in device manager under video adapters, just the intel.

I have tried flashing a couple bios, accidentally installed the gt60 ones an had no issue, but no success either. I flashed the 1762.51x back and this is where I'm at. I've reset bios, pulled cmos power an left it. tried with card, without. just not recognized. I have a couple hard drives each with different Os trying to find a working one that'll least show me the way and card is not visible in win7 or win10.

I don't see anything physically wrong with laptop motherboard, it runs fine as long as original card is not installed.
It runs ok with or without gtx970m installed on any bios an ec I have tried, it just does not show me anything to work with in device manager.

Sorry this is so long winded, I'm desperately trying to resurrect this old girl but thinking I wasted a few hundred an on the video card an my time spent, ugh lol.

Pre-restart, disable driver signature requirement (7 or F7)
    https://premamod.wordpress.com/2017/08/15/j95-nvidia-inf/ (old finished works)
Weak English ...... someone will come and help.

    Pl:
(For example, this was the case with me.)

    cmd from administrator
    type bcdedit -set testsigning on
    restart
unpack driver, find nvmii.inf, open with notepad
use cntrl+h, replace 1617 with 1618, replace all
    after replace PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&SUBSYS_11311462
    with PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1617&SUBSYS_11401462
save in new folder and copy back and replace
    run setup, install , confirm
    run cmd from admin
    type bcdedit -set testsigning off
    restart
    enjoy!!

do you think this will help me? i wont need the modded inf files?

You will always need to use nodded drivers because your laptop model never used that gpu model officially so you need to mod the drivers.

For the GTX 970m 6Gb or the GTX 980m 8Gb to be recognized by the official Nvidia drivers, just flash the card with one of the vbios available on the second post of this thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-and-play-drivers-gt60-70-ivy-bridges.789799/

    Preferably choose a Clevo vbios.
My brand new card came with a Dell vbios.
I tried 3 versions on my GT60 / GTX 980M (Dell, MSI, Clevo), and only the Clevo really works without any worries in the long term. (explained some posts above)

To flash, simply get NVFlash 5.227.zip on the first post of the same thread.
Launch any software that should activate the recognition of dGPU (GPU-Z for example).(only if nvflash does not detect an nvidia card)
Then, use these two commands in a console launch in "Administrator":
    Code:
    nvflash --protectoff
    nvflash -6 *yourvbios*.rom

After a reboot, the installation of the latest driver (and future) downloaded from the NVidia site goes without problems.

    ------------------------------------
For example, for Kamran1918 which has a 980m, and assuming that it is an 8Gb of VRAM:

    1 : download NVFlash 5.227.zip ( attachment first post)
    2 : download GTX 980M vBIOS (84.04.3E.00.01) ( attachment second post)
3 : unpack both in the same folder
4 : launch console in admin, go to the folder
    Code:
    nvflash --protectoff
    nvflash -6 168445.rom

    5 : Reboot
6 : Install Nvidia driver, the card is recognized

So i purchased the heatsink from the link mentioned before, thinking that it would fit the newly purchased 980m, but it looks like i have to remove the bits marked with red on the picture below:
So I can't really test the card even with the existing heatsink, which was designed for 675mx. I am going to buy the dremel tool tomorrow and I will post the results tomorrow.

Go to https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?forums/private-unofficial-modified-biosses-ec-fw.51/ - create a topic with the request of the unlocked BIOS and EC firmware - Svet, the admin that deals with this stuff, will help you with that for a donation.

Anyone know what the highest GPU is that you can get to work in the 1st gen GT60 0NC from 2013?

Thinking about moving one up to an 870 or 970 but I don't want to order the card if it isn't going to work.

Most probably 1070. In about every case you need a modified BIOS (51X/71X).

Regarding this post, i finally managed to install the graphic card

    Everything went okay.Pictures attached.

Just one thing:No VBios Needed, No nvidia moded drivers needed. Windows just pulled the drivers from its update procedure.

Really? In idle or under usage? Those are not bad temperatures, if under usage.

Sorry, correcting the cPU reaches 90 degrees and the GPU reaches 91 degrees. But the GPU copper heat pipe is not as good (see attached photo). I will have to cut it somehow to fit properly so that the heat is dissipated correctly. But in general it runs at 1080p 60FPS.

Did you need to do anything special? Modded drivers? Fan is working correctly? No other problems besides the cooler fitment?
I'll be ordering a 1070 this month (dell model).

I'm also interested if you had to modify drivers, VBIOS, or EC when upgrading from a 980M. I did the 980 upgrade a few years ago, and I'm thinking the price is about right for a 1070 now. Also curious if you had to upgrade the power brick since you are drawing about 30W more than stock.

A trick Svet taught me back then was that because I bought the 1617 hardware version of the 980m, I have to go into a .inf file in the drivers and modify the 13D7 name whenever I want to update the NVIDIA drivers. No amount of VBIOS flashing would work back then.

Is it actually wortwhile to upgrade the 180w power brick, to lets say a 240w? From what i've read the EC, and the 'NOS' technology is limited to 180w, + 50w from the battery aslong as it can sustain it.
I've asked if there is a EC mod, in the MSI forum, but no reply...

I'm not really sure. I found a few conversations about options for upgrading, but I am not sure if they had NOS or not. I am going to give it a try in 2-3 months if I am able to upgrade to a 1070. With the 980m now, I am draining a bit of battery when plugged in.

Hi my msi gt70 0nd with nvidia gtx 675mx gpu from 6 years ago or more may be gone as it causes freezes and BSODs with errors in nvidia.

I came to this site to look for solution as I'm now downgraded to using my intel hd 4k.. to have it running at all.

It would be ideal to replace with if not same card, at least some upgraded that may not require flashing bios or other. I do not seek latest possible card as they r expensive but 680M or maybe much better yet not latest at reasonable price.

Where do I get it, which one, in first place is it sold across continents (europe) and how much? I got the lap from US so parts may be there.

How installation works , just replace card or needs glues n things I've not made such?

I would check out the m6100 firepro. Can be had for 35$ or so, and usually works as a drop in upgrade due to being seen as a 8950.

Thx but used cards that are near dead is not an alternative but smth to last few more years. I'd try also to make bigger upgrade this looks too close in performance.

    https://www.amazon.com/FirePro-M6100/s?k=FirePro+M6100

This is compatible with my model? Why is it sold cheap and my gpu is 2x2 GB i.e 4gb , is this firepro just 2gb?

What nvidia card can it be compared with in being similar performance? Does it require bios change like some mod?
