3K would be nice.....as an option, but give me a good quality 1080p matte IPS screen ( which I think the GT72 will come with) and I'll be 100% satisfied with that.
-
Unless we are only talking about games like LOL or WOW, i dont think the GTX880M is going to move an 3k res comfortably, i have fears that twin GTX880 when released be enough for 4k, personally i also prefer a good quality 1080p screen.

Killerinstinct Notebook Evangelist
gt72 should have the next generations maxwell GPUs
also you can always play at 1080p .

I honestly don't get how a tech forum doesn't understand scaling. A high res screen doesn't force you to play at that resolution, but its an option and when it comes to desktop use it's so useful for extra workspace!! side by side by side windows

If you scale down from native resolution to non-native resolution that is not 2^n:1 ratio, the image quality will be bad. For 3K screen, scale down from 2880x1620 to 1440x810 is okay, but 1920x1080 will look bad.
-
Actually as both are 16/9 ratio it will scale fine to 1080p..
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk -
Actually no. One pixel in 1440x810 will occupy 4 physical pixels in 2880x1620 perfectly. But in 1920x1080, 1 pixel will have to occupied 2.25 physical pixels and force the scaler to extrapolate the color and will cause image to become blurry.Shark00n likes this.
-
Scaling in W8 with high DPI screen doesn't always work well, it can make some things look blurry and fuzzy making the whole point of a 3K/4K screen pointless unless you switch manually which can get to be a pain every time you want to game.
-
I agree.. scaling in win 8 is very hit and miss... but with 3k on a 17" laptop I don't think you'd even need scaling.

It is still quite a high density but I think a 3200x1800 screen would be ideal due to the 1:1 option of 1600x900.
-
Yes the RAZER BLADE 14 scales very nicely at 1600x900 and to tell you the truth it looks like native res when gaming.
Overall it's a good option.
Anymore news on this beast? I would love to know dimensions and weight.
Is it as big and heavy as the GT70? It looks a bit thinner.GuniGuGu likes this. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It is native res to run a whole number ratio res basically.
-
That would be nice too! I expect the 15" model to be updated as well with similar styling and hardware.

Uhg, why oh why? Those look like M.2 SSD's. The same thing Razer did, going away from mSATA in their latest model. No gain in speed, larger physically, and only smaller capacity drive choices available.
When I first saw the thumbnail I was thinking 4x mSATA but then saw it was only 2x M.2. -
It's not all about slots for SSD, GT72 4 slots in M.2. Just not all at once revealed, the one who laid out, wants to keep the intrigue

Why create a custom connector for pci-e drives when one already exists. You can tell how many lanes they get.
Newer drives will be m.2 and speeds will be much faster than SATA.
Of course for external gpu people now you have a direct port for a gpu with an adapter cable lol.
That connector is at least 4x, the question is what gen?James D likes this. -
I'd really like a more portable machine, coming from a GT60. If the GT72 is within 7 pounds, I'm absolutely sold.
-
You should consider the MSI GS70 (5.73 lbs) and GS60 (4.5 lbs).
-
Yeah, well see, the GS70 is at the top of my list for now, but my research tells me that I'll have to make a compromise by downgrading in subwoofer bass response, cooling, and trackpad performance, all of which I regard as important.
So if the GT72 turns out to be reasonably lighter than the GT models, I'll be ecstatic. -
One of the vids I rember someone saying it was 9-10Lbs, not sure if he was guessing but that puts it right in line with the GT70.Now what was shown was a prototype but I guess we'll see once official specs are released.
-
In representation of MSI Russia already has one sample GT72, just wait until the official announcement of its specifications, and then show all

Frankly I do not know, I want to see what's inside the laptop. In Russia, the laptop will be in August, I hope to show at least July

Keep in mind the GT72 appearing at Computex was a teaser...... a first version of a pre-production unit, and that NOTHING is yet written in stone, aesthetically or otherwise. Shortly, I anticipate a second version of pre-production, and perhaps this will provide more clues of what can be expected in final production. My intel says MSI's development is on-going, that it will far exceed the GT70, and also suggest cause for high expectation and excitement. I am relatively certain the GT72 will be my next Weapon-of-Mass-Destruction. Can't wait!

I hope they wake up and get rid of the red area near the vents( what are they supposed to be ...brake lights? C'mon MSI)it looks very chessy.

OK, I get the lighted strips on the front but who's going to see them in back? I can live with it but it's not my favorite feature.
-
Hmm... if you argue that what's on the back is not going to be seen, then why is the color of the back of concern to you?
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Just like the backlit MSI logo on the lid, it's about presentation, an attention getter, back-bling, or eye-candy. Wherever you are, interested on-lookers will curiously be attracted to your awesomeness, wanting to know more about your notebook. I can't begin to count the number of times folks have inquired about my 'Dragon Edition'...... and I am hoping MSI will do the same for the GT72.
C'mon MSI, do a top-tier 'Dragon Edition' SKU of the GT72!
-
Trust me I'm not losing any sleep over it it's just personal taste, I say it looks cheesy others like it no big deal.
It wouldn't stop me from buying this laptop that's for sure.
Don't worry -=$tR|k3r=- I'm sure you'll get your wish with the Dragon Edition G72.-=$tR|k3r=- likes this. -

Thank goodness, you almost had me worried there about your sleep.
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Well, truthfully I am a little worried. My understanding is MSI reserves the 'Dragon' edition theme, for top-tier SKU's they consider 'special'. Notice with the latest GT70 w/880M there was no Dragon Edition. Since the GT72 is a new series, and a new look, hopefully they will find the Dragon theme worthy for their top-tier GT72..... i.e. an SKU with the latest X-treme Core i7, and the next-gen NVidia GPU.
This is what I am hoping for, and besides, my wife has already laid claim to my current Dragon Edition, and says it's hers when I purchase my next notebook..... but I am not sure I want to give it up. It's WAY more notebook than she needs, BUT of course, she thinks it's pretty, LOL! I think I am committed to the GT72, so if MSI will do a Dragon Edition, it will save me a lot of fuss with the wife. SAVE ME MSI!
-
I would also like to see the GT72 Dragon Edition
, GT70 Dragon Edition I do not really like its design does not say that this Dragon Edition

Huh? Click HERE, and scroll through my GT70 photos..... looks like a Dragon Edition to me.
-
I've seen looks like GT70 Dragon Edition when I was at an exhibition in which the MSI showed GT70 Dragon Edition 2 Extreme .Machine beast, very beautiful
, but Dragon Edition should look not so, and so looking at it immediately understood that this Dragon Edition.
.
I almost fell in love with GT72. wondering whether his version of Dragon Edition

-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Hmmmmm..... not sure I understand what you are saying, but YES, the 'Dragon' theme is a beauty, indeed..... it's sure to attract an audience at hotspots and lan parties, and much nicer than the photos reveal. Let's keep our fingers crossed that MSI will do the same for the GT72.
-
How could they not.
The way I look at it is MSI needs to showcase it's new design and show the world that it's got something new so why not go all in and have a dragon edition, makes perfect sense, you have to show off that new styling and why not add top tier hardware to really make it special. -
Well I would buy the msi gt72 if they put sli gtx 880ms and a better cpu unsoldered and two fans one for gpu and one for cpu then definitely I will buy it
-

It won't be SLI.

Maybe but this far msi has avoided dual card machines entirely.
