Most likely will be released with maxwell , the one shown was a pre prod model![]()

Maxwell will be released in the spring of 2015 I think -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
I have absolutely no interest in the current Kepler 880M. What I'd like to see (and expect), is a GT72 SKU with a 2nd-gen (GM2xx), 20nm process Maxwell...... and what better way for MSI to introduce the new series? It is in the 20nm process that 2nd-gen Maxwell will shine, with far better tweaking and OC headroom, greater power efficiency, and better temps. Question is; will this new graphics card be available when MSI introduces the GT72 to market? If not, early SKU's of the GT72 will most likely sport the current Kepler 880M, followed by later releases featuring the 2nd-gen Maxwell. This leads to another question...... what will the new Maxwell be designated...... as a GTX-880M Maxwell, or the new whispered GTX-980M? Either way, the GT72 with 2nd-gen Maxwell (and next revision X-treme Core i7) is clearly in my sights, and I think we may see this as early as Q4..... perhaps Q1 2015. Stay tuned!

GT72 comes with GTX 880M and soldered CPU.
Pictures of the notebook taken apart have been posted in the internet a couple of days ago.
The notebook comes with "Cooler Boost 3" and "Super Raid 3". The notebook have several M2 slots for SSDs, 2 I think, and it it features the HM97 chipset, chances are its ready for 1000MB/2000MB per second speeds.Link4 likes this. -
Where are the pictures
? I was looking for a very long time, but found none.

Meh..... a pre-production teaser, and months away from final release. There will be SKU's equipped with next-gen GPU's, and other processors available.

-
No one thinks there will be an sku with the AMD r9-m295x?

interesting, they have GPU Vram pipes hooked up with the CPU pipes ... wonder how it affects temps.
EDIT: nvm , they just have pipes connecting to the top of it , still interested in performance figures, maybe its not the final thermal Design iteration. -

Each fan does look similar to the current one, very interesting that the CPU, a relatively low model gets a boost from the GPU heatsink.
-
It is a pity that the processor BGA, I would like to CPU was removable..
.
-
Soldered cpu, they lost a consummer.
Too bad
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
There may be more interesting bga options in future, a 4810qm equivalent would get the job done nicely.

Which uses a different pin out and has gimped pci express lanes.

Great news here guys. Notebookspec got some details about the specifications on the upcoming GT72. You will also find pictures in the link below.
They say it actually comes with 4940MX (which is not soldered) so a bit conflicting specs floating around.
Releasing in October 2014 according to them

880m.. Little old no? I wonder if they release a similar spec with a r9-m295x?
Cool to hear about the new displays but me thinks they will be months behind...Cloudfire likes this. -
They better include the R9 M295X as an option. Its said to release in August and will most likely beat 880M by a good margin.
I would also love a 2K/3K or 4K display, and I hope some manufacturer is currently making them availableGuniGuGu likes this. -
Woah I hadn't had the chance to check out the new GT72 model, it looks very promising!
It is a bummer about the soldered CPU, but as others have mentioned including Cloiudfire, I have only changed the CPU in my laptop about twice. 4700 works good enough for gaming, but as Meaker said, a 48xx version would be great. I am looking forward to it for the new improved cooling and extras!
I doubt MSI will go with the MX295x but one can hope

MSI will go with the GPU that makes sense for such a model, they produce cards for both companies.

Hint, Hint: Yes, I have been saying the information from Computex is derived from a pre-production teaser, that mine will arrive with the latest X-treme processor, and expect SKU's with next-gen NVidia GPU's too.
Cloudfire and Kevin@GenTechPC like this. -
So we can expect Maxwell GPU's?
Would be awesome if true especially if it's from day one, I wouldn't be mad if they still used Haswell CPU's as long as we get next gen GPU's, options for both nVidia and AMD. -
The power on, fan turbo etc. button row looks terrible, like from 400$ Acer. Would be real bummer if they release it like this.
-
I like that feature, it's much better than the glowing touch buttons they had before.Simple and elegant.
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Really? Somehow, I think if this awesome notebook sat before you, all those concerns over a row of buttons would fade away. Seldom completely happy, a critic always has something to critique.
-
Well for the few people that I showed how new MSI GT(X) series will look like, all agreed what those buttons look cheap, especially considering that this will be 2k$ notebook. Just because GT72 as whole might be good, doesnt mean I have to like "features" that looks bad on anything that thinks its better than Acer. Actually I find it very surprising that there arent more people who think the same way and no one said this before me. The quality difference between good and solid keyboard vs how bad and cheap this button row looks is striking

Mostly what is important is what under the hood . plus I like the physical buttons better , touch panel was annoying. It looked cool but was annoying, if I wanted everyone to know it was a $2000 laptop I would just put a stamp on it saying "my laptop is $2000 " lol
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
LOL! There is no perfect thing, and always something to fuss about. The critical eye will always find a flaw. You can please some of the folks, some of the time, but you can't please all the folks, all of the time. I was just amused, of all things, the critical eye fixed upon a row of buttons, LOL!
....... and my GT72 will be closer to 4K, row of buttons, and all.
-
I personally think the buttons look great. I am not as much of a fan for touch controls for such details, except maybe screen haha. The Core i7 xtreme edition looks very tempting
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
ryzeki, but you want an x-treme GT62, right?
-
Nobody have made any 4K displays for 17" I think
-
personally I'd be ecstatic with anything that was over 1080.. Like a 2k or 3k display.Cloudfire likes this.

really? since when did hm97 chipsets come out?

Yep, LOL! Thanks for looking out for me IKAS V!
-
I am debating about it! I like how extra portable the GT60s are, but the GT70s have a bigger screen hahaha
All in all, I might go for an xtreme GT62 indeed. I already have a 4k Tv to use as monitor
I am actually much more curious about the inclusion of HDMI 2.0 spec to use my 4k TV at 60hz. Or an adapter to use Display port at HDMI 2.0 speeds. I wouldn't mind the laptop coming with a 3k panel though.Cloudfire likes this. -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Well, as compared to the GT70, MSI has reduced the weight of the GT72. Plus, the added screen real estate, and it's sure to run a little cooler, you might want to consider a 17" this go-round. Also, you would be a welcome addition in the new GT72 Owner's Lounge. What do you think? You want the new awesomely xtreme GT72, don't you?

Promised to show pictures for a little bit in this group MSI

Thanks for the invite! I am strongly considering the GT72 this time haha. I am flip flopping between 60 and 70s hahaha, had GX660R then GT70 barebones, then GT60.... I guess it's time to join the GT72 again
Damm you Striker with your compelling arguments!
Thanks for the picture! I think that I like the new design not only because it looks interesting, but because it is a breath of fresh air to the now stale current design. it's been like what, 5 or nearly 6 years of the same chasis? Just tweaks here and there. -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
LOL! Sorry, but just trying to help you out. You know you will hate yourself if you don't buy the truly awesome xtreme GT72.
Also, I told Ken to keep you straight too. Have you gotten a PM or email from him yet?
-
I also like it very much. Been waiting for the new design and the cooling system. My first laptop was MSI GX680, then appeared GT60 which differs little from the GX680. Design GT60/70 just bored and want a brand new laptop with a new cooling system design, and to less noise
. Vacuum cleaner (GT60) bothered

The GT72's new venting and dual fan design should run markedly cooler than GT70, and better yet, for SKU's equipped with power efficient 20nm Maxwell GPU's. Can't wait to do the benchmarks, but I already know it's gonna be good!

Yeah, it seems 17 inchers is the better choice!
-
But what's the point of new cooling design if we can't buy cheap ES XM CPU and upgrade it yourself? I bet mobos with 4930MX will be the only one with swappable cpu.
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
It's not MSI, but Intel, and we'll have to wait and see the final outcome. I think most oppose embedded CPU's, including myself. Not only do I have an issue with non-upgradability, to me a notebook with an embedded CPU is only as good as it's warranty. Suppose the CPU goes 1 day after the warranty expires, then what?
In any event, I'd think twice about upgrading with a 'not for sale', non-warranted, non-supported ES processor.
Information about Intel Engineering/Qualification Sample Processors
Anyhow, all is not lost yet. Let's see if Intel forces embedded CPU's on the OEM's.
