6300 should be a 3 wire card, 7260 is only two, that is probably why you lose some signal. 5GHz is good for line of sight, but not real great through walls. I can get 40-50MB/sec with 5GHz line of sight (yes 50 MB/sec ~ 400 Mbps), but go through a couple walls and it drops more than half.

I really can't wait to finally try out 5Ghz AC once I get back to Shanghai. At my apartment the 2.4Ghz band is extremely crowded while the 5Ghz band was completely free last time I checked. The apartment is kind of small and there would be at most one wall in the way.

I think it depends on what your house is made of. My house is an 90yr old Brick + plaster construction and I get the same speeds from my P34G running a AC-7260 to my router 1 floor up. I tested this by transferring about 30GB of data from my laptop to a hardwired NAS server and got from 45MB/s to 55MB/s during the entire transfer.

My house is also all brick and plaster and while it can go through my wood floors just fine it can't penetrate the plaster. Plaster has a metal mesh which can mess up the signal. Outside only 20 feet from my router I only get about 2 bars and 10 mb/s if I'm next to my house.

For me on my MSI GS60 and GT780DX with an AC-7260 installed both notebooks still have the issue of no networks available after coming out of sleep mode just as with the previous driver, version 17.1.0

After a reboot the available networks reappear.

    Rolling back to 17.0.6 ....again!

    :( :( :(

:\ Works for me, though 17.1 did as well. Noticing no significant differences from 17.1 so far.

    What is your OS ?

maybe it might have something to do with it.

My mother's laptop is an HP , it has Win7 and an Intel Centrino card and it too won't reconnect from sleep until done manually no reboot necessary tho.

In my experience with my GT780DXR, none of the wifi cards in it would reconnect by itself after sleep.

    - Intel Centrino 150n card that came with it wouldn't reconnect.
    - Killer Networks 1103 card, with both KN's drivers and Qualcomms/Atheros
    - Intel 7260 doen't either.

I wonder if win7 itself is the culprit. it was the only OS i used on that laptop.
Either the os is too slow at reconnecting (more than 30 sec we all get impatient) or just doesn't do it ?

All i can say for now is i'm using 8.1 on an Acer Aspire E1 with a Qualcomm Atheros AR956 and it reconnects fine after sleep.

i've never had win8.1 on my gaming laptop with any of the wifi cards in it, but i might just test it out for fun, fresh install, new drivers. if i can find a good 8.1 iso to use.

Intel 7260 on my Windows 7 64-bit SP1 fully updated reconnects instantly after sleep. It isn't Windows 7. Maybe some PCI-E settings prevent the adapter from waking up after sleep

I'm on Windows 8.1 update 2 on both MSI notebooks.

Drivers 17.0.6 all the way back to the 1st 16 series that supported the AC-7260 worked without issues. They only differed in link speed.

Connection issues only started with 17.1.0

If I close the lid putting it in sleep mode and then open the lid there's no white bars or SSIDs when the desktop appears.

Normally I have 5 bars and link speeds between 702 Mbps and 866.7 Mbps

    sfc /scannow was clean
500 pings to the router very good
    router and card setting OK

I'll do a clean install on a spare drive to see if I have a software issue.

I have sleep issues too with my 7260AC also, Windows 8.1. Coming out of sleep, it doesn't recognize the card. Only with the latest driver, but in general performance is more stable. I have to reboot my machine coming out of sleep to get the card working again. Come on Intel! You can do better.

It's not horrible, but it seems Intel seems to fix one thing and break something else with each driver release. I was happy because performance has become reasonably stable with the last driver for gaming (i.e minimal to no ping drops). But the sleep issues is annoying.

My take is to install the Intel proset software, using the restart proset option let me keep using the card w.o reboot. But yea, it doesn't really "solve " the problem...

I've again tried out the 17.12.0.4 driver in both Windows 8.1 Update 2 MSI notebooks with an AC-7260.

Now the old Sandy Bridge GT780DX notebook works after coming out of sleep mode with 5 bars and the normal 702 Mbps to 867 Mbps link speed.

The new GS60 is still having connection issues after coming out of sleep mode.

Why the one notebook has resolved the issue and the other has not is unknown to me.

Both have all the Windows Updates and have been cleaned of old updates using the KUC 8.1 Update Checker.
KUC a utility to check you Windows 7; 2008 R2; WMS; or Win embedded update status

I've had some issues with the card not working after sleep. Sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn't. The hardware wireless switch doesn't change anything. If I open up my network adapters and disable and then re-enable it, it works again.

Let us see what the difference is versus a non-revised with some pictures please!

I apologize if this seems like a foolish question but do I have to download a separate Bluetooth driver package for the Intel Dual Band AC 7260 or are the Bluetooth drivers already bundled with the WiFi driver?

    Download the separate bluetooth package.

I'm curious what this "revised" adapter is all about too. ??? I hope this card doesn't require a hardware fix. But if it's a solid update, non ping drops, no sleep issues, etc, it'll be worth $30.

As I don't have a previous 7260 for reference, I can only provide pictures/stats regarding this "new revision", but I will gladly do so!
It's scheduled to arrive tomorrow (9/16/14).

Let me know if anybody else would like some sort of testing done with it. I'd love to give back to a community that helped me so much!

In my post above link there's an example of date silkscreened on the reverse side of the wireless card.

"PCB text (date code 4712, Nov. 2012) is silkscreened on the back of the module)

So I gather it to be the 47th week in year 2012

Mine shows 2314 silk screened so I gather it to mean the 23rd week of 2014.(Mid June,2014)

The suffix G and WB denotes the amount of pieces in a bulk pack the card is from...10 to 100 or 1000?

On the rear of the AC-7260 along the bottom edge there's silkscreened numbers

Click on the 'one card' reverse side image and look on the bottom edge of the card right above the pins

In the example on the linked page besides the PB#G83349 there's other numbers;that's the date code 4712

Mine are PB#H17074 and date code 2314 0:01

Here's further proof that there is a new revision of the 7260 card. I stumbled onto this by accident.

The FRU parts list for the Lenovo ThinkPad 11e has 2 7260's listed. Note that these cards are M.2 form factor.

    04W3845 - 2 Intel Wilkins Peak 2 7260 2*2 11agn+BT4.0 M.2 Card Indonesia SKU
    04X6008 - 2 Intel Wilkins Peak 2 7260 2*2 11agn+BT4.0 M.2 Card Wake# Issue Fix SKU

The second one says "Wake Issue Fix".

The question is whether Lenovo or any other laptop manufacturer will give you a new card if you have sleep problems with your current card. This remains to be seen.

If my AC-7260 in a new MSI GS60 has sleep issue with the new 17.1 and 17.12 drivers but not with 17.0.6 and prior versions I don't think it's a hardware problem.

Yes,that's the date code(1113) in the image.

The 4712 Nov 2012 is the example without image stated at the beginning of the article

    @ davidricardo86

I have no information but I'll notify MSI and my reseller of my issue and see what they say.

I advise anyone else with a card that's giving them sleep issues to do the same.

They'll probably say this is the first we're hearing about it.

I don't want to RMA the whole notebook and lose the use of it for weeks just to do a 5 minute job swapping out the card.

What should my wireless speed be? I'm getting between 540Mbps and 780Mbps, with a throughput of a disappointing 30MBps...

Also, I don't see any ac options listed in my NIC properties in device manager - just b/g/n.. Is there something wrong there?

In my AC-7260 Advanced Properties my option is a/b/g

Right now I'm using these settings but I'm sometimes trying others

    802.11n Channel Width for 2.4Ghz = Auto
    802.11n Channel Width for 5.2Ghz = 20Mhz Only
    Ad Hoc Channel = 802.11 b/g
Ad Hoc Qos Mode = Disabled
ARP offload for WoWLAN = Disabled
    Bluetooth = Enabled
    Fat Channel Intolerant = Enabled
GTK rekeying for WoWLAN = Disabled
    HT Mode = HT Mode
Mixed Mode Portection = CTS-t-self Enable
NS offload for WoWLAN = Disabled
    Packed Coalescing = Disabled
    Preffered Band = 5.2Ghz band
    Roaming Aggressiveness = Lowest
Sleep on WoWLAN Disconnect = Disabled
    Transmit Power = Highest
    U-APSD support = Disabled
Wake on Magic Packet = Disabled
Wake on Pattern Match = Disabled
    Wireless Mode = 802.11a/b/g

When the notebook with the AC-7260 is paired with a quality AC router and in line of sight with the router at 5' to 10' distance you should get the max 866.7 Mbps.

Further distance and going through walls and floor will almost always lower the link speeds.

So what's the production date on the new revision card you received?

Is it mini pcie or M.2?

    Thanks for the info pal.

The date code on mine is 2314, so between June 2 and June 8 of 2014.
This seems to be contrary to the "new revision" description.
    It's mini pcie.

I can also no longer see my neighbors SSID broadcasts like I could with my Intel 6235 card. But - my mistake - my card does in fact say a/b/g, not b/g/n like I mentioned earlier.
As for my speed, I'm about ~20' from my router, which is on a different floor. I suppose this is the issue.
Are there any reliable ac repeaters?

Also, can I ask you to explain why you have your card set to 20MHz only on the 5GHz band as well as why you have your WoWLAN settings configured the way they are? Learning as I go :).

My setting are set after a lot of experimenting changing one at a time over the course of a few day and comparing performance before and after the change.

The AC-7260 will do little to nothing to change results of speedtest.net and download/upload speed that rely on your ISP and the sites you are connecting to.

The AC-7260 shines in transferring files across your home network.

While I'm showing a link speed of 866.7 Mbps I can transfer a Windows 8.1 ISO file from my desktop to my notebook at an average 45 MB/s and between 2 notebooks

with AC-7260 cards installed at nearly the same speeds.

When not in line of sight and less than 866.7 Mbps transfer speeds will be slower.

Transfer speeds are measured with TeraCopy

I have no first hand knowledge on extenders so I recommend you visit smallnetbuilder.com

My experience is a bit different.

A while back while I was still residing in Korea and had great cheap Internet I did a lot of testing my Internet connections and downloading with an early AC-7260,Killer 1103(3x3),Killer 1102 and a 6230.

The differences I observed were due mostly to time and day and the sites I was connecting to and not the wireless card in use.

The tests were with the same router and settings from the same location in the apartment.

When I changed ISP from LG to SK my Internet speeds all dropped a wee bit.

The big difference experienced with the AC-7260 is in file transfers across devices on the home network. The AC-7260 was the clear winner over the closest rival 1103 by at least 15 MB/s.

Looks like amazon gave you an old product (should be a September unit). if it was not fullfilled by amazon you would have got the newest revision.

Well, I contacted Amazon about the issue. After telling them my card has an old date on it, I was assured, in broken English, that the card would not expire any time soon ...
I'll be returning it for another go as soon as I can.

On a side note, would some larger antennas possibly help my speed problem?

I'm not sure you settings are correct on 5.2Ghz = 20Mhz Only

I always thought that 20Mhz is 150Mbps max. 40Mhz is 300 and 80Mhz( believe required for AC) is 866

May be I'm wrong. Also I hope you SSDs in those laptops when you perform your laptop to laptop speed test, otherwise you may have a bottleneck at HD level.

btw which router do you have?

Yes,I have only SSDs in my notebooks.

The spinners I have are used for external storage

My router is a Netgear R7000

Everyone will need to experiment with the setting to find what works best for them .

Settings I used a few days ago may not be those that I'm using today.

The 802.11n Channel Width for 5.2Ghz setting like the rest of them should be tried on AUTO and 20hz and see if it makes a difference on your AC card.

The U-APSD support = Disabled is one setting I suggest you leave as disabled.

    That's strange...
The reason AC can achieve such high speeds is because of the 80MHz channel width. 20 MHz should severely limit you

That's what I'm saying. Unless intel drivers ignoring their own settings. I wouldn't be surprised

what intel drivers version are you on? Are you using official Netgear fw?

Yea, real weird. I can also set mine to 20MHz and get "ac speeds". Not sure what's in play there.
