The only disconnects I've ever had were with stock Intel or Realtek wireless cards that were in new notebooks.

All upgraded Intel 6xxx or Killer cards I've used varied in performance but were never causing dropped connections.

I have excellent Internet service and my R6300 router is high on the wall away from my desktop PC and not near any large metal objects.

In the Connection Settings I have Enable Intel Connection Settings checked and in the settings the 5.2ghz is selected. My Access Point Mac Address is entered and the Cisco measuring is selected.

You can get your Access point Mac Address by running the Intel ProSet/Wireless Tools.

    Which OS are you using?

On Windows 7 v16.1.5.2 is the latest and v16.5.3.6 for Windows 8.1.

On clean installs of Windows 8.1 with the WiFi enabled a driver is automatically installed to get Wifi working right off the bat.

Then the driver can be updated.

If you had an Intel 6xxx series card and driver working it shouldn't be a problem but you can uninstall it in Control Panel>Programs and Features and then do an install of 16.1.5 or 16.5.3 depending on your OS.

Download the Intel exe file and rright click on it>run as Admin.

I always install the full Intel software package with the driver but many only install the driver.

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Se...ductProduct=Intel®+Dual+Band+Wireless-AC+7260

BTW,recheck your router and WiFi card Advanced settings.

    Clear the router cache.

In your router setup different names should be given to the 2.4ghz band SSID and 5ghz SSID but the same password if desired.

In the wireless cards Advanced Settings choose Prefered Band and uncheck the box in the wireless cards Power Management to turn off power.

Click on the 5 white bar to choose your 2.4ghz SSID or 5ghz SSID and connect to that.

Right click on the 5 white bar icon>Open Network Sharing Center>Click on your Connections WiFi SSID name>Wireless Properties>Enable Intel Connection Settings>Configure

Here you can choose your band and enter the MAC address of the Access Point you want to connect to

    I believe you can.

Unpack the downloaded 7Z file from station-drivers to a new folder>open the Install folder>open the Data folder>click on the driver.msi> follow the path

This new driver is not on Intel's downloads site yet. It's probably suppied to station-drivers from an OEM.

Installed this 16.6.0.8 driver without the Proset using device manager and it worked fine. It has a more stable connection on the longer range especially at 2.4 GHz and it now connects after hibernate unlike the previous 16.1.5.3 drivers. Throughput is pretty much the same.

    Newbie and first post.
Firstly thanks to all who posted, mostly Whats The Point, for giving me some direction on this adaptor.

I was pulling my hair out trying to get this card to work in the first place and actually read through a bit here before even buying it.
I recently bought an ASUS AC RT68U router and a netgear USB AC USB2.0 adaptor. The Netgear adaptor has been working fine but I hate having device hanging out of my laptop, even it was a challenge to get working correctly. Kept a solid 867Mbps connection with it.

I also just upgraded my ISP package with FIOS to 75/35. The Netgear adaptor was taxing every bit of it running the speed test I was getting 84 down and 38 up.

When I installed the AC 7260 I should have started reading here from the back instead as I went through every driver I could get. I was having a serious issue with intels website just trying to locate a driver. Thanks for having direct links posted here!

Im on the latest v16.6.0.8 having worked through every one of them. It does give the best performance of all but Im not so happy that the Netgear USB adaptor still beats it hands down.

Here is the latest from speedtest.net

My speedtest looks about the same as always with some deviation due to day and time in my centrally wired apartment complex.

With my old IP,LGU+,I had zero ping. Now with SK Telecom I'm paying less but getting 9ms ping

Your speeds are off the charts!

Wondering why I cant get the same throughput on the 7260. Everyone always talks about how USB is a bottleneck yet it gives me better results.
I get the same no matter what the time of day is. That's one of the upsides to having fiber. I don't have to worry much about wireless congestion either, only 4 others showing up and only one of them are running 5Ghz at the top of the channel spectrum. The story about a higher channel giving better signal strength may be true but it kills my connection speed. Im centered on channel 149 and where I normally sit in relation to my router I get a 702 Mbps connection with -45db signal strength. I go to 165 and my signal goes to -39db but my connection drops to 140 Mbps. Even when I get to 5 ft from the router and an 867Mbps connection the throughput is no better.

Im on an ASUS G74SX laptop thats all stock except a memory upgrade, 1 512GB SSD drive and 1TB 7200rpm drive in the other bay and now the wireless. I will say the difference is huge over the POS wireless they put in it from the factory. Intel Centrino 6150. That thing wont even do 5Ghz and I think the best connection speed I ever got was 70 Mbps.

Widows 7 ultimate. Im on the fence with windows 8.1 on whether or not to even bother.

You always need to try different settings on your router and card.

Most blame for bad wireless networking speeds and connections lays with the user and the service provider.

Download and upload speeds have a lot to do with the site you're connected to.

I have my MSI GT780DX notebook plugged into the 220v wall outlet using a surge protector.

The notebook power option is on high performance and no sleeping or hibernation.

My Netgear R6300 router is set to WPA2 AES with channel 161 selected for the 5ghz band.

My service comes straight out of a wall jack to the router with no modem.

My cable TV,broadband Internet and Internet phone package that'a on a 2 year contract costs about $30 a month.I pay an additional $5 for a few premium channels.

When I lived at home in the New York/New Jersry area my service was expensive and terrible.

Here, the Korean government made a huge push and commitment more than 15 years ago to get the whole country on the best broadband possible and manufacture the equipment to do it.

There's great price competition between the 3 main service providers.

    Im with you there.
I may be a newb here but Im not a newb in the realms of technology. Been at this since before the internet even existed. My first network was ultra high speed 1Mb over coax, my first PC was a commodore 64 that used floppies. Want to change a program? shut it down, change the floppy and turn it back on. DOS didnt even exist as technically there was no disk to have an operating system on.

I wish I could go right out of the fiber box but I cant. If I do I loose my FIOS TV programming lineup and Verizon has the network set up on MAC address. I tried all that way before I got this card. I have to use the FIOS router for the TV connection but thats all it does. Ive had the internet connection DMZ'd through the Verizon router since like day 2 of getting the service. It leaps above comcrap that I had before that was not only slow and dependent on how many connections were on a given line but very unreliable. The way it all panned out was like an omen. Verizon had been running the fiber in my neighborhood and finished right about the time my comcrap contract was up. They jacked my service price from $160/month (I have the whole shooting match except phone, highest speed all the channels) to $240/month. I called them and they said there was nothing they could do. I said something about what they were advertising, my same service for less than I was paying for it before the hike. Of course that was new customers only! They made my decision for me and I got the FIOS service for the same price of comcraps current best offer for new subscribers. Never looked back and a few months later when a comcrap sales guy shows up at my door begging for me to come back he wouldnt take no for an answer until I let my 120lb dog out.

My router is set up with channel 145 as the control channel, got the best connection speed and throughput there. Also on WPA2 AES. Power option stays on high as my ASUS G74SX was more of a desktop replacement and stays plugged 99% of the time. When I really want a scream machine I have PC I built specifically for that with dual quadcore CPUs, 32GB RAM and quad NVidia grapics in SLI. All water cooled.

Ive tweaked everything I can think of to tweak and still dont get the throughput even if I have the laptop sitting 6 inches in front of the router. The Netgear USB 2.0 just flat out outperforms it in download by 30Mbps but is comparable in upload speeds. The only thing different between the two are the adapters themselves along with their associated drivers. I ruled out the lack of performance of the antenna by putting the the laptop in close proximity from right on top of the router to 5 feet away where I maintained 867 Mbps connection and went through all the channel changes etc and still came up with the same result. It does no better than it does 20 feet away with a 702 Mbps connection and the Netgear at the same location maintains 867 Mbps connection.

Ill keep on tinkering as that's just how I am, never settle for less than perfection.

I am thankful for all the time I was saved by finding this forum and thread!

Found the Culprit! Why it doesn't matter on the Netgear is beyond me but it fixed the slower speed with the Intel AC7260.

On ASUS RT-AC68R router changed channel bandwidth from 20/40/80 to just 80MHz.

From 20 ft Through 1 wall

    Connection speed up to 780

This package has driver 15.10.4.2 for Windows 8.1, which is newer than the latest 15.10.3.2 that is available from Windows Update. Using 5 GHz I was seeing several drops per day prior to this driver. I installed this new driver on my Thinkpad W530 (with Intel 6300 wifi) a few days ago and have since seen zero drops and a more consistent transfer speed when moving large files. The ~18 months of unstable wireless drivers from Intel might finally be coming to an end.

16.6.0.8 is awesome on my NP8265-S. I'm right now about 40 feet from my router, with 4 walls between me and it. Here's the speedtest result.

Not bad for a Wireless connection. My DL / UL is supposed to be 50 Mbps / 25Mbps.

However, when I'm at campus in Brooklyn, there is a problem with ALL centrino cards and Windows 8 / 8.1. Apparently, SecureW2 can't fix it. The school claims it's an "enterprise driver" issue (ie: they need an intel enterprise driver), but I just think it's complacency on the IT department's part. End Result: No internet for me :( Everywhere else, this card is a monster.

I'm getting twice that speed with the same card. My download speed is 110.9 mbps. My driver version 16.6.0.8. I have an ASUS RT-AC68R router that I'm using with my Intel AC7260 wireless card. The Laptop is an ASUS G75VW quadcore processor running 16 gig of Ram memory.

I had the version from station-drivers installed last week, was ok - still had sporadic drops.

I have now installed the official release from intel, tried for three days - not one drop out and a constant connection, considering I would have at least 1 or 2 drops a day. For those having sporadic dropout issues I would highly recommend installing the set above. Works for me and hopefully should work for those who have this issue.

I wasnt having any issues with drop outs but upgraded anyhow.
I did note that the intel package doesn't have the connection utility. It was a bit tricky getting just the driver and Im not so sure its any different than what station drivers had. Cant compare the actual driver file size due to the way they packaged it.

Sounds more like an IT control problem.
If you can connect elsewhere what card you run should make no difference. The router cant tell what it is you are running, So long as the security and protocol are met it doesn't care.

    Hi guys,

I got maxed out signal quality but very low link rate (speed), ranging between 80-120mbps (N mode, 2.4ghz).

Also, the connection sometimes drops to below 10 and the damn thing dont move, even though the signal is maxed out, or very close.

    Any suggestions?

Sounds like WiFi interference issues. I also connect to Wireless-N, 2.4 GHz at home. My speed for the most part is 144 MHz (20 MHz channel width) but it dips to 72 occasionally though on the worst case, it dips to 11 but goes back to 144 after 5 seconds or less. If your stuck with speed below 10, you need to use the 5 GHz band for less interference.

What router are we talking about here? Also are these speeds actual transfers speeds (which would make them good) or connection speed reported by Windows?

    Thanks for the replies guys.

It's a DIR655 and DGL-4500 and its the same on both. Interference is not an issue as half the channels are not occupied at all.

Speeds are reported, but they may as well be true as nothing is happening, and if it does, it's like dialup :)

When it drops below 10 it has the tendency to just stay there until i manually turn off the adapter and back on, otherwise it's ok and it hovers around 200 thru 2 brick walls, which is not too shabby

Most of the 2.4GHz channels overlap other adjacent channels. So unoccupied channels does not necessarily imply absence of interference.

Also, at 2.4GHz you could be encountering interference from cordless phones, microwaves, baby monitors, etc. Or just general wifi interference issues, as stated above.

RIght, i looked it up online and tried out some settings that some people did when they had the same problem with the desktop version of this card, and it worked wonders. Solid connection now.

I wish i kept the link....... sorry.

The latest drivers from Intel for Windows 8.1 drops my 5Ghz connection every few days, Intel needs to get their act together and release a stable driver on Windows 8.1 for the Centrino 7260.

This does not happen in Windows 7 with the latest drivers from Intel with the same card (7260), I've now reverted back to the Microsoft Update drivers on Windows 8.1 (16.5.3) for my 7260 which has been rock stable so far (one week no drops).

Does the notebook have an F key ot touch panel button that turns on Bluetooth so there will be a Bluetooth listing in Device manager?

If it's not enabled there won't be a Bluetooth listing in Device Manager.

I think you don't have Bluetooth turned on.

After it's enabled and the driver is installed then....

move your mouse cursor to the lower right corner > Settings > Change PC Settings > PC and devices > Bluetooth

The Bluetooth screen is where you need to pair the Windows 8.1 notebook with your BT device(s)

There is not a dedicated blue tooth button, only an button that puts the device in airplane mode.

Yesterday tried to reinstall windows, now still no blue tooth, but all the wan and USB hub is not in device manager even though I installed the same drivers, strange.

Is there a bios setting to enable/disable Bluetooth?

In device manager look for an unchecked box that turns on BT.

When it's on there should be a BT icon in the taskbar..

When you first received the notebook did it have Windows 7 with BT working?

Anyone gone from an Intel 5300 or similar to an Intel 7260? Did you notice a big difference?

I lose 50% bandwidth on my WiFi connection (30mbps) compared to ethernet (60mbps). I think my low end Broadcom card with crappy drivers may be a cause.

So I'm debating whether it's worth just going for a 5300 or stretching to a 7260.

It may be the card but it's not the matter of a card itself - it's the matter of a setup. You never mentioned the router involved.
If it's a poor one and/or you are far from it than no surprise. Besides 7260 does not benefit you in any way unless you run a 802.11ac router so don't expect wonders just because it's a new card.

I went from an intel n6150 to a ac7260 and the difference was huge. As stated though if you dont have the router to use the speed its a moot point. The 6150 was a major POS that didnt even do 5Ghz. I paired the AC7260 with an ASUS RT68U and went from 30Mbps actual transfer rate over LAN to nearly 190Mbps and max out a Verizon 75/35 connection for WLAN. Its darn near as fast as a GB Ethernet connection. Never thought i would see the day, especially seeing how my first internet connection was 14K dial up and first ethernet was 1Mbps over coax.

oh crumbs, 25 pages of replies, lol.... all i want to know is will one of these work with my dell xps 17 (L702x) if so for £18.35 from here i think it'll be a worthwhile upgrade from my 6230, and that i can move to my older lapto to save me using a bluetooth dongle !

    best i get reading lol

That's interesting info, thank you - i will actually go check my current settings as well !
so basically if i want it to hop form one device to another when stronger signal or prefered i want the setting shown above ?
I iwll likely be setting up a second access point via homplug devices and setting that to use the same details as my current setup, because it dies half way down the house !!

I'm looking at buying an HP envy 15 and want to upgrade the network card. Customer support said they're Intel cards. I'm planning for the future and want the ac card even though my current router doesn't support it. I'm not sure which card comes with it but if its a Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 with only one stream when I use the N capability will it be slower than say the Dual Band Wireless-N 7260 with 2 streams. Was looking here for reference Intel® Wireless Product Selection Guide

The spatial streams depends on how many physical antennas that are inside your HP Envy 15. If you have only 1 antenna plug, a 7260 AC card will only run on 1 stream so it'll perform exactly as the Wireless-AC 3160. Your N speed will also be cut in 1/2 (150 Mbps as opposed to 300 Mbps 2x2) due to antenna limitation. If your Envy 15 has 2 antennas, 7260 AC without a doubt. If you're having connection problems with the 7260 AC, you can get the Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac 2x2 which HP uses in their ENVY 15-j003cl Quad TouchSmart Laptop

Hey thanks for the reply. I was actually talking about the 3160 AC 1X1 vs the 7260 N 2X2. On an AC router the 3160 with single stream can do 433 mbps but when using an N-router, will the single stream cause the 3160 to max out at 150 mbps vs the 7260 N's 300 mbps. In others words when using an N router is the 7260 N better than the 3160 AC because of the two streams available on the 7260 N.

You got me thinking though and I checked out what HP specifically put on the specs page. The first is the standard with the second two being options. This is for a HP ENVY TouchSmart 15t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC by the way.

    802.11b/g/n WLAN [1x1]

    802.11b/g/n 2x2 WLAN and Bluetooth® [2x2]

    802.11 AC WLAN and Bluetooth® [2x2]

Since the AC card is listed as 2X2, It can't be the 3160 AC and I guess the only other option is the 7260 AC which would be great. I'm still curious about what I rambled about in the first part of this post lol. Thanks!

    Hi,

recently my connection speeds have dropped. I noticed that during Windows file copy the speed is below 14 MB/s. Previously it was around 37 MB/s. I didn't make any obvious changes to my setup.

    Here are the specs:

    - Router: TP-Link Archer C7
    - Notebook: Samsung NP5303 (with 7260 AC of course), Windows 8.1, Drivers 16.6.0.8
    - Settings are pretty much default, exceptions. (i) Power saving setting/Wireless set to max power, and (ii) Roaming set to minimum.

Since the speeds decrease I ran some tests with Iperf. Server is connected via cable to the router. Speeds I get here is approx 120 Mbit/s uplink and roughly 150 Mbit/s downlink. Windows reports 780 Mbit/s.

I'm kind of lost what to do and check here. Any suggestions are welcome.

    Cheers,

    jayrock

Sure, more than once. I first noticed this maybe two weeks ago.
