Ok - so I did as I said before:
1. Installed driver version 9.0.1.21 (my computer is SONY - but I installed driver from IBM). Installed ONLY driver without Intel ProSet (if you installed with it - you can run setup and uninstall proset - leave only driver).
2. Adjusted Network card properties - set power to maximum.
3. Added Alternative IP configuration to TCP/IP settings - because sometimes my computer would not get DHCP response from router (Intel card tries to send dhcp request packet with IP as 0.0.0.0 and router ignores that kind of packet). I emailed Dlink and they suggested to set up Static IP's and not to use dhcp at all. So I presume they know of some problem with Intel cards not renewing DCHP properly. I would use static IP, but my work's IP is different - so i left dhcp with alternative configuration.
Now it does not drop connection - my speed gets as low as 1Mb, but I am happy that I can connect at all (wireless router is in my neighbours house).
Somehow I liked Intel Wireless ProSet functionality (from generic driver), because icons were more informative and you can set profiles for computer not just user, but it used more resources than plain microsoft and I am affraid it was not working as good. I might try ProSet from the url that CapeMayAl supplied above.

Hi guys,
I am new to this forum. I have read all 11 pages of this thread. My problem is bigger than all of yours. I have the Toshiba M30 laptop which comes with the 2100 Intel Proset card with the b standard up to 11mbps, which was working fine. (Still is)
I recently bought off ebay (grrr, why did I not see this forum before I bought it?) the 2200BG card, but...
This card will not even connect to the wirelss network. I tried all the drivers posted in this thread, but nothing seems to make it connect. It does "see" my network, but cannot connect, with any software, any driver. It says "Out of range" and the laptop is just 1ft away from the router. I have the 3COM 3CRWDR100A-72 wireless router, and the old card was OK. This one nothing.
Any suggestions to make it work, will be welcomed, and I will face the speed fluctuation problem later
Thanks a lot
George -
Go into the software and make sure it isn't set for "G" networks only.
"G" standard is backward compatible with "B" standard, but some software, probably most, will let you configure to either mixed (B&G), or just "B" or just "G".
How Can A Person as great as I be so humble? -
It's on both
-
Do you have your network encrypted?
And, make sure you're using the right SSID on the card, and if encrypted, the correct key.
But, if you brought the card off ebay, then maybe it's toast.
How Can A Person as great as I be so humble? -
CapeMayAl,
The card was bought new and sealed, and it seems to operate since when I tested it in an ad-hoc connection it worked. Did not check speed, was a short time test to tranfer some files to a friend.
I don't use encryption, I first want to see it work.
-
I would double-check all your settings. If it's working in ad-hoc, then maybe your router is set to ad-hoc.
Again, check all settings, router and card, to ensure they're all alike.
How Can A Person as great as I be so humble? -
Yes, they are [V]
-
I understand you removed the driver, but see if you can disable the card completely.
It might still be trying to, or is, transmitting, trying to connect.
YOu should be able to disable/turn it off. Try from the control panel, in system, hardware devices.
How Can A Person as great as I be so humble? -
Since the 2100 is not in the laptop, and there is no driver/software for it installed, you cannot disable it.
-
The 2100 is a mini pci card as the 2200, the laptop takes only one card in the slot, and I have uninstalled the 2100 driver from the laptop
-
One last thought, make sure you have the original 2100 card turned off. As they both can't connect at the same time.
How Can A Person as great as I be so humble? -
Sorry, I missed that!
Well, then I'm stumped.
If everything is set to infrastructure, and all the settings are the same on both the router and the card, then the only thing left to assume is that you have a bad card, or your software is corrupt.
Just a thought for the WEP keys, in the window's network settings, for the network properties, the authentication key should be OPEN and the Encryption DISABLED.
If you're using WindowsXP turn off the Intel software and use Windows to handle your network.
How Can A Person as great as I be so humble? -
Done all that, actually tried windows and Toshiba software(config free), but nothing.
The card is OK, it works on another laptop [V][!][xx(]
-
Oh my, posted twice, sorry [:I]

Thanks nayways [

I guess I'll have to wait if someone else has another idea,

George -
Thanks anyways
I'll wait if someone else has another idea

Well, if it works on another laptop, then the problem must be yours.
Maybe you do not have the software installed right, or didn't remove the previous software completely.
Other than that, I'm stumped.
Sorry.
How Can A Person as great as I be so humble? -
I cant take this anymore with my Intel Crappy 2200BG POS card! Cant intel jus fix this God dam problem?!!!
I called them up today and they say they will call back tomorrow, But yeah right i dont think so!

Well guys, I have been having the same problem with my wireless. I was running the 2200BG card and thought that maybe since I had (or I thought I had) the latest driver it shouldn't be lagging or having speed problems, but not much changed. It got a little bit better, but not by much.
Anyhow, after looking around a bit I found this and thought that maybe you guys might be interested.
I found a beta version driver posted on http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,13185998 and according to them it has solved the same problem that you and I have been complaining about.
I have yet to give it a try as it is currently downloading as I am typing this but hey, it is worth a shot.
Anyhow, you can download the driver from https://secure.filesanywhere.com/xELinkMain.asp?crypt=%97%8Cz%97zs%81%86%93r%92%AA%A6z%87%9B%B3%5Dy%A7%95%A1%99%9F%9Epz%7C%82a%82a%7DiL%87%9A%7Dt%95%8D%8C%82%82%5F%5C%81%81%86h%83%97%95v%AB%98%8C%86%B9%C7%B4%92%AD%C3%9D%A7%A9%7B%9F%9C%C7%96%C5%7E%9D%9D%A0 for as long as it stays avaliable. It contains the 9.0.1.4 software but contains the 9.0.1.21 driver.
I'll be giving it a shot as soon as it finishes downloading, maybe you should too.
The only other thing I would consider is trying to find another miniPCI card for your laptop and replace the intel one. Personally I'd love to have one of Belkin's Pre-N cards with MIMO. I have been using a PC card in my laptop to play games and not only is the range outstanding but NO LAG! LOL, anyhow, God bless and enjoy.

Hi guys I have the same Laptop wireless adapter and the Linksys WRT54G wireless router - I downloaded the latest drivers from IBM website and it did seem to fix the problem, however I seem to get REALLY poor ass signal range like 2 rooms away and its like 56k modem speed and sumtimes wont even connect. Have any of you had similiar problem ?
-
Visseroth is the man of the day. My connection has never been more stable or this fast thanks to that driver download. Thanks man. Hopefully these drivers will come out of beta soon and we can get this card working like it should.
-
I still can't connect to the network, even with these drivers [V]
-
Thanks Visseroth. This new driver and app are much better than the current release at Intel. I still get some jumping of around of speed. But at least with this version it doesn't drop below 36 Mbps.
It used to go all the down to 1Mbps with the previous version (9.0.1.9 driver and 9.0.1.0 app) and my 2200 BG card. -
This is the same file that was offered earlier on in the thread. nothing different to it.

There are tons of posts in this thread, maybe somebody already asked this. I can't uninstall ProSet Wireless Software version 8. When i try to do it it tells me the installation has errors and it can't remove the program.
The same happens if i try to reinstall it. Installing version 9 doesn't help, because it can't overwrite the previous version.
Has anybody had this trouble. Please help

Guys!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can somone repost this driver or send me it to: [email protected]
I have 17 Acer laptops with these cards that need to be network ready (for any users) for Monday and im having BIG trouble with this card and getting it to pick up the connection to any of the 3 different APS I have!
the 9.0.1.9 does nothing (aswell as setting the power management up to max) -
It is somebody who tried whith Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG to crack a WEP in WinXP? If it is please write me on [email protected]!
Thanks! -

Oh, wow. I wish I had known of the issues with the 2200bg. The whole thing just makes me want to throw the WRT54g and the 2200bg out the window.
I just got my Z71v on friday and I've had horrible trouble with doing anything more than using my shared dialup connection over the network. (I live in an extremely rural area, and unfortunately broadband is not available here.) Operations such as copying files seems to kill the connection.. as if the wireless card is throttled to only work at less than 1%.
Nothing I've tried seems to help. I've tried Zero config, I've tried IntelPRO-only config, I've tried both. I've tried different drivers.. to no avail. Just frustration.I'm just glad I don't have to be frustrated alone....
omg 2200bg needs to die! -
Hi guys!
I finally got my card to function properly. I tried the old driver, then the new driver, uninstalling it, installing it... Yes, i tried everything []
But i have installed Linux and it required that i formated the whole pc including the windows disk. So i did that (formated everything) and then i re-installed windows. I used an all-in-one driver cd from Zepto(my laptop), and BANG! it worked! The driver version is 8.0.12.9000 . So i recommend you to format c: and reinstall windows and use that driver version. Cheers and GL []

Uhm, i forgot to mention that i have perfect connection to my router and i can see every wireless network in the block! 54mbit trough 2 steel-reinforced concrete walls [

I'll try and forget you saying that i'll have to format my notebook for my wireless to work. Thats a joke! and there is no way i'm going to format...

I have no idea if anybody posted this yet but it seems that at least some of you with 2200BG may not have a problem after all. I checked DL speeds using a good server (openoffice.org-Indiana U)on 54MBps and 1MBps and I got the same speeds (300-400KB/s) each time. Moreover the 1MBps wireless connection went right up to 54 MBps under stress. It seems that my router (Linksys WRT54GS) or the card itself uses some kind of a throttling system. I hope that helps.

I have a brand-new Dell Inspiron 6000 with an Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Wireless card and a Linksys WRT54GS router. I have spent about 6 hours trying to get past the "Limited or no connectivity" issue trying to connect to my WEP-enabled network. My $150 Netgear wireless MP3 streamer receiver connected flawlessly to the network about a month ago and still works great. What is ridiculous is that all of us have this problem with our >$2500 notebooks. I had a Dell support person try for two hours to fix it today and she will call back tomorrow with more "ideas". I told her I do NOT want another card. This little issue with Intel has really put a bad taste in my mouth for their products. Surely they would have QA'd this card in a common laptop like mine with a common wireless router like Linksys. I've tried EVERYTHING in the past 13 pages of posts, drivers, beta drivers, etc and NOTHING works. It is so frustrating. I'll post again after my 7p CST appointment with Dell tomorrow and see what they say.

it is funny you mention your 2200 BG card because she said she'd give me that card if our software configuration fix did not work tomorrow. just out of technical curiosity, could you explain your comment about "A" hardware? the 2915ABG card is listed as more expensive than the 2000BG. why is the lower quality card more expensive?

Thanks! I could always use a more stable network connection! Ha.
Reminder to other people on this board: You can uninstall the Proset Software and just use Windows Wireless. I personally got rid of it because the Intel stuff just hogs up RAM. Last time I got the beta drivers, I simply extracted the files, canceled the auto installer, and just click "update driver" in the Hardware List on Windows and point it towards the files I extracted. Perfectly updated drivers for the wireless card and no annoying Intel software! -
I still cannot connect to my wireless network with the new driver. Unlike all of you guys, I haven't managed to make this damn card to connect to my network although it detects it. I still get the message "Unable to connect".
I am just one step away from throwing this card into the garbage bin [][
