Just installed it. Everything is working fine. Solid G connection.

Well its not a suprise that intel has yet fail to solve this problem at all. Dont worry i'm about one step away from throwing this card in the bin, better yet buring it. I just got told by Intel that this could be the Notebook's Fault due to the Aeral. I recon this is a load of crap, other wise all of us wouldnt be having the same problem!

Maybe it's a Toshiba thing? Everyone here connects with this card, even with erratic speeds. I have never managed to connect at all.
Any one with a Toshiba laptop to inform me?
Thanks -

Wow....Got a ****load of e-mails after I posted the link cuz apparantly it expired. I went ahead and zipped the folder and uploaded it to my personal webspace so there won't be an expiration. Here you go guys!!

Well, I decided I'd had enough with the WRT54g and I returned it for a refund.
I went today after doing that and bought a Netgear WGR614.
Setup was a little shaky considering they think all of us are noobs when it comes to networks, but I got it working.
As far as the wireless connectivity, it seems to be working well. I copied the entire installation of GTA San Andreas (~4.5gb) from a friend's computer without a connection drop or stall... unlike a similar attempt with the WRT54g.
I'll post again later when I've more thoroughly reviewed the performance but it seems like the problem was just incompatibility between the WRT54g and the 2200b/g. I am using the drivers that shipped with the computer, 9.0.1.9 and everything works just fine.
omg 2200bg needs to die! -

Ok, from the top, I have a gateway notebook that came with the 2200BG 0.1.4 hardware. Preinstalled was 8.0.12 (iirc) and the connection was "ok" for the most part. One thing I noticed right off the bat is that even with a 54mbps connection, max transfer speed is approximately 1.1 MBy/sec. Using a IBM thinkpad width the atheros (whatever its calleD) wifi I was able to get 2.2MBy/sec no problem to the same AP. I have WPA enabled on my access points. But the connection was relatively solid.
Unfortunately the layout and architecture of our home requires two APs in order to cover the house with reasonable signal. This is not a problem because the house is hardwired already. So currently the network consists of a WRT54G and a WAP54G. I tested each one individually and was able to get a good sense of which covered what area. When I enabled both APs using the same SSID and different channels, that's when I ran into problems. When moving from one AP area to the other the signal naturally degrades but, the computer refuses to aquire the significantly stronger signal (aka -40db vs -75db). So I started looking around and decided to install newer drivers.
I downloaded wireless_9.0.1.0_-_generic_tic_90281.exe from intel and installed it. It did not fix my problem with switching off between aps automatically. This driver has been nothing but trouble as many here can attest. I had the repeated bouncing connection speed, disconnects, weird behavior on reconnecting (unable to get dhcp, unable to connect), sometimes it woudl show as connected but unable to communicate with the network.
After readind through this thread, I tried downloading the WPA2 update and installing that, and stupidly on the same reboot, I tried setting the transmit power levels and the power management levels to something lower, oking the dialog and then opening it up again and setting both of them to the highest settting. Unfortunately I don't knwo if the power settings or the WPA2 patch helped more.
I rebooted and the interesting part, my throughput went up to about 2.2MBy/sec. This was great I thought, the intel proset client reported 48-54mbps consistently. I thought I was home clear. A couple more bandwidth tests and I noticed that if I let the connection sit for a while, my bandwidth tests would start off at 146KB/sec for a good 10-15 seconds and then suddenly shoot back up to 2200KB/sec.
So I decided to do something semi-stupid, I uninstalled the 9.0.1.19 driver, rebooted and installed the 9.0.2.0 driver just posted. Upon rebooting my connection seemed to be stable at 48-54mbps but throughput was back down to 1.1MBy/sec. I'm completely stumped.
I do not know what is different, I've tried enabling frame burst, cts to self, changing the preamble you name it, and I still get only 1.1MBy/sec avg throughput. If I open up intel proset and open up the event viewer I see a bunch of dhcp events go by regularly (odd considering the lease is much much longer and the status never shows less than 48-54mbps). Additionally, when testing throughput, the transfer rate is erratic, 1600KB/sec, 800KB/sec 1200KB/sec (this was how it behaved with the original preinstalled driver). For that brief moment when I was getting 2200KB/sec prior to 9.0.12.x it was nice and steady, transfer rates were between 2060 and 2150KB/sec or so.
I did notice that the 9.0.2.x drivers have a adapter setting called "Roaming Aggressiveness", which I thought would allow me to put both APs back on the same SSID with different channels (1 and 11). Unfortunately it did not work, it seems to hold onto the weak signal regarless what that setting is.
So to summarize, when your connection is stable, what kind of speed do you get across 802.11g? 1.1MBy/sec is marginally useful, 2.2 wasn't great but it's a big improvement. Anyone else care to test their wifi? It would be great to know what everyone else is getting and with what hardware/drivers. The program I used for testing is NetCPS simple but effective.
Does anyone have any info on how to make the 2200BG behave nicely with multiple aps.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 2, 2015 -
I have my dell inspiron 6000 working with a dlink 624 modem. I can only connect with no security and wep only. Whenever I try to connect with WPA it has limited or no connectivity pop up. Are there any suggestions to remedy this situation. Is it the modem's firmware or just the card?
-
I also have a Dell Inspiron with Intel 2200BG wireless and DLink 624. I'm using Dlink firmware 2.55. If you have want to use WPA you need to put in IP address for your Dell 6000 instead of letting your Dlink 624 assign IP address. This is Dlink's firmware bug.
Anyone using Intel's beta 9.0.2.25 driver? It seems to work better but have still does drop connection. -
So, would it be better to upgrade from 2200 to the other one that alows a/b/g instead? or is it going to have the smae problems? I really need to know becuase i will be using the wireless alot as soon as school starts. (our school has really fast internet)
-
Well from what i've heard the 2951ABG or some like that(the next one up in intel's line of CRAP) I head that its a load of crap as well. dpes the same thing and i think even does it worse than the 2200BG so who know...

New guy here, I´ve just read this intire thread and can unfortunatly recognize all the problems other members are having myself. I´ve just got a new ASUS V6V series with an Intel Pro/wireless 2200BG card in it and when connecting to a D-link AP, I two have the infamous 1-5.5-mbps-at-the-best-11mbps-until-it-drops-out type of problem.
I´ve tried all the various drivers and work arounds mentioned here and the most stable (but by no means acceptable) signal quality is the one I get with the old 8.10 driver.
The only one I havn´t tried is the one you are mentioning Paldo - can´t seem to find it on Intel´s site - do you have a link to it ?
At least it´s great that it´s a bunch of us having this problem (the more minds the better, kind of thinking) - But I do wish it didn´t need to be this way
TIA.

OK are people still having problems with the 2200BG? or has eveyone seem to solve it?

I'm using 2200bg with 3Com Officeconnect 11g Router, installed driver version 9.0.1.4 and is working very well. Have been using for 1 week and no more disconnection. Seldom speed drop but maintain at a high level most of the time.

I installed the 9.0.2.0 driver and the speed drop problem is solved. I'm using a ASUS Z71V with 2200BG wireless card.
Hope this helps. -
I'm still having the speed drop problems :S
-
Well, it's been some time since this thread was started and there's pretty much no new information. The 9.0.2.0 drivers worked for some people, but not most it seems. Intel hasn't done anything. For my part, I sent my notebook in and they gave me a new 2200BG card which works just fine.

At least i'm not the only with the problems....

Hello everyone. I am new to the site but not to the business. I have 2 brand new Acer laptops (C113 and C312) and both have the Intel 2200BG card. I am having problems with both of them on the network dropping connection to my Cisco Aironet 1100. Now, I know that the AP is not the problem because I have 15 other laptops of varying manufacturers that are all having no problems connecting. The 2 that are having problems are doing the same thing that everybody else's are doing and by that I mean dropping from 54 down to 1. One of the solutions that I found that seemed to work for a couple days was changing the default wireless to 802.11b only. Of course transfer rates are a little slower but it seemed to work for a few days. Now, it's back to not working. So what I have done now is setup one of the laptops with a PCMCIA Linksys card to see if that will resolve any issues. I did already upgrade both drivers to the latest version 9.0.2.25 and that did nothing to resolve my issues. I know that I have jumped around in my post alittle but I will keep everyone informed of any and all changes. Thanks.
-
:centrino: Like most users here the 8.0.12.12000 driver (only driver loaded) in use here. Some one mentioned getting a new card solves these issues? Has the H/W been updated?
How can you tell which revision you have?
I have 3 dell's all with this problem.
Thanks DS

When I try to connect to my neighbor's network (with his permission), I cannot. His network is secured, but I know the WEP and he has setup his network to accept my laptop's MAC address. But when I try to connect the window just says "waiting for the network..." then the window goes away. Nothing else happens. The laptop doesn't connect to his network. Has anyone else experieced this with 2200b/g wireless (or any other card)? Any thoughts?
-
when you open the Intel ProSet wireless, do you see his SSID? If you do, then double click on his SSID, and it will ask you for the password.
-
Just thought i might bring this up... has anyone tried swaping the Main and AUX cables around? on my notebook i've got
White - Main
Black - AUX
Is that right or rong? or doesnt it matter? Essentaly its just the same cable so i thought it would do the same thing. -
-
It is amazing that this problem has not been fixed. I have a brand new HP DV4040us and have this exact problem! So not only has Intel not addressed the issue and fixed it, they are still shipping new systems with the defective wireless. Hard to believe!
-
You know, I had all the problems outlined in this thread, poor connection stats with constant dropping of the connection etc. It was driving me slowly mad. Possibly some light at the end of the tunnel - at least for some. Latest drivers from INTEL on their website seem to have, at a minimum, vastly improved the ability to stay connected. Drivers 9.0.2.0 for the ProSet Wireless and 9.0.2.25 for the device driver. Still not perfect, but better for me. It stayed connected for 2+ hrs from an average of 5 minutes before the latest drivers were installed...

After so long talking and give data results to Intel, they have finaly ruled out that it was my enviroment that i was in. Dam you Intel DAM YOU!

This problem is REALLY annoying when listening to streaming music!!!!!
On edit: I just noticed your post was from 10 days ago and you had not returned to say that it had not worked. So......... I took the plunge and downloaded and installed the latest from Intel. Big files, long process, even with broadband ethernet. I promise to post back when I can tell if there is any improvement. I'll probably be listening to some streaming SHOUTcast radio tomorrow night so that will be a test. -
Well I have been using the new drivers today and it definitely seems to be an improvement. I have not had any total loss of connections yet. There is a new system tray icon with this update and it never seems to drop below 12 mbps. I don't know if this is because the tray icon is programmed to only show 12 at the lowest or if the signal is really being maintained at a higher rate.
I'll keep monitoring it and report back. Maybe this is at least a partial fix? -
Well, it seems I am having this conversation with myself, but maybe it will help someone down the road.
After using the new drivers for a couple of days, I can report that there is some improvement, but not a fix. The Mbps still fluctuates as often as before, it just tends to not get down to 1 or 2 Mbps or cut off as often. It does still occasionally cut out though. I can tell because if I am listening to streaming music, it goes into re-buffering mode. Also with these new drivers, the icon in the task bar goes gray when the connection is lost, so you can see it happen. Remember that I am only a few feet from the wireless router. I guess it would be worse if I was in another room or outside.
So, this must be a big and difficult problem with this 2200BG card if Intel really is unable to fix it after all this time. As I stated earlier, it is amazing that this problem still exists with all the 2200BG cards out there now. I ask everyone I know with a laptop if they have the card. So far everyone who does have this card, has the problem. They tolerate it by downloading only over ethernet. None of my friends listen to streaming music, although one does listen to baseball and gets annoyed by the cut outs. -
I'm getting a Latitude D610 in a few days (shipped yesterday, supposedly) with the Intel 2200 and I after reading alot of these posts, I'm definitely not replacing my Netgear MR814 (802.11b) with with a Linksys.
I think I'll go with the WTG614. Netgear even has a page on how to configure these cards with their routers. So at least someone is acknowledging that there's a problem!

I've read some where that the routers transmitt really weak at the base of the router. Try being about 3 Meters(10Ft.) away and see how that goes. I've also set the router to G only which made a difference so try that. I've notice that i only drop as in Drop speed but not connection when i'm idoling, Other than that i pretty much get 54mbps all round.
lgandg -
Intresting, i'll have a try of that and i'll see how it goes. The Netgear instructions are for the Intel Wireless 2100B not the 2200BG what everyone else has. But i'm still going to try it and see how it goes. Thanks for the Site post. -
Oops--you're right. I didn't notice the mention of "2100" at the bottom. I thought the ones included in "Centrino" were just the newer ones. Well, hopefully it will work for the 2200 as well. I thought it was interesting that part of the procedure is to remove the Windows WPA patch--some earlier posts mentioned WPA as being a problem.
-
Also - I am about 8 feet from the router, so not too close, I don't think. I drop speed pretty frequently, but not as bad with the new drivers. The speed can drop down to 10 or 11Mbps and I won't notice a thing. If it gets down to 1 or 2Mbps, then there starts to be trouble. I listen to SHOUTcast streaming music, so I notice it every time it drops cause the music needs to then re-buffer.
I'll look into setting the router to G only. Wonder why that would make any difference? -
Hi,
after much problems with the IPW 2200, i thought i had it fixed, but i realised its not...
I have the Acer aspire 1690WLMI and had it for about a month now...
ever since ive had it, ive had trouble to set the wifi right, finally i updated to the latest drivers from intel (9.0.2.25) and the connection seems more stable...
but the thing is, ive also had problems ever since i had my notebook because it was freezing randomly, not THAT often, but it still happened from time to time...
so finally, i have been able to narrow it down to the wifi card, it seems everytime it freezes, im using the wifi doing a big data transfer over the network or something like that...
now im just wondering if this could still be a driver-related issue, or if it might be the card that is defective, or maybe the chipset on my laptop?
i really don't feel like sending it to acer for checkup because i need the laptop right now, but im really starting to go crazy with these troubles...
anyone else experienced something similar? any suggestions?? -
I agree with other posts that the connection speed does fall over time according to the proset desktop software, I have corrected that by turning the wireless card off and then back on again using the Intel proset software (which I use to manage the conenction). That gets it back to a full speed connection (at least on the desktop, not really sure if it is making a difference).
All in all, if you are having issues with connection using this card, i'd give these new drivers a go. For me, they are working extermely well.
But, oh so annoying that I've had to wait for these driver updates to come along.... -
I got my Latitude D610 last Tuesday with the Intel 2200 card, and after getting the wireless connection up and running (about 5-10 min. after taking it out of the box), I haven't have a single disconnect or speed drop with my old Netgear router. To me, definitely appears to be a problem with the combination of the card and certain routers, not just with the card itself.
Another thing to consider (I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet), but I have always had much better luck using the configuration utility provided by the card's manufacturer (whatever card it may be) rather than the one that is part of Windows. -
I have been using latest driver for a month and the problem is still there. It is really anonying that your connect get drop all of a sudden when you trying to download long files or connect to remote machine. This firmware is worst than the IBM one, which I no longer have. I hope IBM will come out a newer firmware soon.

updated to the newest driver version on their site and installed the intel wireless program and mine is working great, hasnt dropped a signal and im getting solid 22mbps (i only have a 22mbps router so this is the fastest speed) im about 30 feet from router
try the driver, i thinkn it helps alot -
OK guys I'm running on the latest drives that hasnt been released to the public yet. it should be out and it seems like it has fixed the problem up. thats version 9.0.2.1

i just bought a linksys wrt54gs as it was on sale. i plan on buying a laptop with a centrino chip family. reading this thread has me worried. should i return the linksys? i was under the assumption it was one of the better routers on the market? should i also start looking at a pcmcia wireless nic??
