this is an insanely cheap price. Good find.

Was thinking of getting 2 to Raid in my Alienware 17. Worth it?
-
isn't the msata port in the m17x a sata 3 port? not sure if youll do raid 0 or 1, but you'd be going from 1.75TB to just under 1 or 480 if you stripe. If you don't need the space, you'll probably see some speed improvement, but how much would depend on the drive speed itself, not the sata port. Others on here with better knowledge of SSD/Raid setups will hopefully chime in.

I didn't see it but how long is the warranty period on this drive?
Also, how good is the controller in this drive? I was seriously considering a SanDisk Extreme II. -

the controller part is a good question. The only reason why i would like a raid 0 set up would be faster hibernation. I hibernator 2-5 times a day during school days and it would be nice. (4-10GB ram used makes hibernation on an SSD even take long times.) -
Why not just sleep instead of hibernate that much? Hibernate's really meant for extended periods of shut down where you don't want to lose your session.

sleep never works right. It always wakes up in bag and somehow sleep still uses a crap ton of power. My old G51j worked great in sleep mode but my m17x R4 doesn't sleep right and is stupid. Otherwise i would. :/ My G51j and other HP laptop sleep worked but hibernation didn't -_- always a hit or miss or half works half doesn't with technology. I will never understand that. Spent several hours this morning trying to uninstall flash on my android phone so i could reinstall hacked version to watch amazon prime instant but i can't uninstall it so a root with custom rom is needed and that is just a pain in the . Again another reason why i hate technology....or companies, whichever.
No unlocked BIOS on laptop -_-
can't get a working flash on phone or easily root...why do i even need to root to begin with -_-
well i need to clean and am still sick i'll stop rant there. I can go on for hours with all the stupid crap that doesn't work on technology because of some idiot and dumb organization making it difficult for no *real* reason -

Any idea where I could find the 5mm version of this drive?

5mm? 9mm is standard and 7 mm was the thin version for netbooks/ultrabooks unless that changed recently and i missed that -

I've just checked: See 600 SSD | Seagate. 5mm is listed by Seagate (it shouldn't be a problem to make since up to 1TB is available in the mSATA format).

i wasn't saying it wasn't possible. I was checking to make sure he didn't mean 7mm. I haven't heard of anything REQUIRING a 5mm drive. Last i heard the thin form factors used 7mm. Thought he might be asking because he needed a slim one for his laptop or whatever. No need to miss out if what he really needed was only a 7mm drive. -

I just picked up a Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2 11 which came with a 2.5" 5mm SATA 6G/s Seagate HDD. I was just curious.

interesting...noted new ultrabooks might take 5mm now. I'll keep that in mind if i do get a broadwell ultrabook down the road.
