You can easily get this on eBay for under $660. It's sold out everywhere around me so I can't get it for the really low prices. If there's anyone here that would sell it for under $600, that would be great. Or I might just have to go to eBay and pay a little over $600 for it, but I'm not sure if it's worth that much.
EDIT: I bought one from someone on slickdeals for $560. Do these include an HDMI cable?

Hi folks,
OK at the risk of straying from this topic ... well not really ... For those who are still looking for laptop deals ... check out your Weekly Specials at OfficeMax and Office Depot this week ... I saw some Gateway and Acer ... that looked pretty good.
But, I don't think we'll see something like this M-6862 stocked with ATI HD2600 and priced so well for a little while.
G! -
That is classic!
LMAO! -
Hi Zenica,
So I suppose you don't think a 10,000 3DMark is possible with this Gateway M-6862!
G! -
Check out your local best buy. Although their online site indicated no m-6862's available in store, my local store computer indicated they had one. The price was $486.99!, no coupons needed!. In addition, if you call the web online ordering telephone number they have them in-stock, despite the fact that the web site indicates none.

I just wanted to let people know about why my laptop is giving me the BSOD. It is somehow related to the ethernet drivers. The updated gateway ones made my laptop crash every 5 minutes. The microsoft ones are better but still cause crashes. However, if I use wifi my computer does not crash. So, perhaps the problem is that very few of us use the ethernet port to begin with. If anyone has any ideas please let me know, Thanks, Jack

You probably have already tried this ... but for what is worth ... also, I am assuming you have not done any OS install or re-install ... then try the following ...
1) Have you looked at your Device Manager to see if you have any Yellow alerts.
2) You may need to remove the device from the hardware manager and install the drivers first, then try booting up and see if the device is recognized and installed.
3) Have you tried Restoring to a point that it worked before. Or try using Gateway Recovery Center.
Post back if any luck!

how is the display quality?
-
If I knew what I know about Gateway and their unusual and funny "Drivers" ... I probably would NOT have bought this laptop.
But from listening to folks ... it seems as long as I stay with the STOCK Gateway 64-bit pre-installed software and don't try anything funny I should be A-OK.
The only thing is I was thinking about adding a BT Half card to the empty slot in the laptop ... bu tI may just opt for the external USB BT (someone said there is an available slot ... haven't opened it yet ... too busy).
If I dig up something on your situation I will post back!

This laptop is really great for the price, but it sucks that the drivers aren't functioning properly. Hope they come out with a new one.

Hello, I'm looking to buy a laptop for school. I'm going to be running programs such as Adobe Photoshop, After Effect, Premiere, and FL Studio 8 (Fruitloops). I would only be looking at high res 17" laptops to run these programs, but this one caught my eye. I also do a bit of gaming as well.
My questions are; how well would this laptop suit these programs and would i be set with a 1280x800 screen? Or shall I go with a higher res setup?
Will this laptop run Call of Duty 4 on high, if yes what frames could I expect?
~Thanks -

thats what im afraid of... I have a dell with 1280x800 and it isn't impressive.

I would Strongly suggest that you go to the THREAD below and fill out the FAQ that it is also available in that Thread ... but I have linked it here for you also.

It depends on what your budget is. Considering just what you listed you will be using this laptop for, I would got with something bigger. -
Gonwk,
do you know if a bluetooth mini card would fit in this unit ? I have an usb one that i'm using but i would prefer to add an internal one if its possible. -
Sorry I have not got around answering your post ... been busy messing around the work ... anyway, yes you CAN put in a Bluetooth Mini Card in Gateway M-6862 ... it goes in the Wireless Bay compartment.
Here is the Source for the "BT Card" and the "Antenna" that will work in our laptop.
"NEW" 2.4 GHz Wireless 370 Bluetooth (2.1 + EDR) Mini-Card

Well, I hope this info will be helpful to you and others!

I read all the reviews also ... and that is why I thought I would be OK ... but even his/her shipping is slow ... 5 days to ship 1st class in USA ... heck I send mail from east coast to west coast and takes only 3 days.
I will contact him/her before I post a "Negative" feedback ... but I am waiting resposnes from other folks who have bought from him and posted back "Positive" feedback. If their Antenna has been shipped in the same fashion and same problems as mine then I guess I would wonder why give him a "Postivie" feedback!?!?
Thanks,
G! -
Hi folks,
Somebody asked me a Q about the DELL Refurbished Bluetooth Mini Card that I got ...
Q: Does the BT Card come with "Screws" to mount?
I have not yet installed my card ... been busy!
But I just looked inside of my pacakage ... the Card came in an Anti-Static Sealed envelope and that is all.
I have read in some posts in a thread that you can use one of the screws from your Wireless Card and Secure the BT card in place.
BTW, the picture of this card on DELL or anywhere else made me think that the card is huge in size ... but it is only about "2 inches X 1 3/8 inches" ... so pretty small so 1 screw should be more than enough.
Hope this helps you.
G! -
I have some bad news for you... Gateway only uses ONE screw to mount the existing card.
-
Bam Thanks for the Heads Up!
G! -
Thanks Gonwk for the info. Did you get a chance to install the bluetoot adapter and the antenna. Also, this may be an ignorant question, but is it necessary to add an antenna to the bluetooth adapter post install ? And would the antenna protrude out of the laptop ?
