    Yes to both.
X7800 is older generation. There's also the X7900.

Any difference between the x7800 and x7900 besides 200mhz? I notice one of them is merom, and the other is merom XE or something at the end, what's up with that? From what I gathered through quick googling, the two are roughly the same just different clock speed.

But ultimately in the end, is it worth getting the x7900 or the x9000 in terms of money and waiting time for an ebay listing to go up? (on a general level for the common person, not a gamer that plays games 24/7 or someone rendering 24/7)

Not particularly. The X7800 and X7900 at stock actually performed around the same level as the T9300 and T9500 if I remember the tests performed in the Gateway forms correctly.

Yeesh, I may as well go for the t9300 then since it's cheaper, runs cooler, and has more cache.

The m1730 already has pretty high thermals, the x7800 is gonna run hotter than a x9000 because of the 65nm/45nm differences, especially with overclocking. But being able to overclock from the bios is really nice, so to have that luxury for only $150-$200 w/ x7800 is not bad I guess.

Also you have to disassemble the entire laptop to change the cpu, so make sure you want the chip going in there, its a little time consuming to do.

Kind of, but people in this forum will definitely want to get this laptop to overclock the CPUs if they can. So with 65nm CPUs in such a small space of ventilation, heat is unavoidable.

I have not tried to revive my order, for reasons of apathy.
I never really wanted it to begin with (see posts on page one).

Yup, server seems to be a problem for me these days too. In addition, it was OUT OF POWER around my living area for a couple of hours coz there's one stupid mini-van hitting the generator in the region. Will look into the PM now.

It's not a good mobile laptop, I would leave it home. Finding a bag is not the hard part, finding one that fits the laptop and the power supply will be the challenge.

I just got my m1730 today and now i am contemplating whether i should sell my Gateway 7811 or keep both. I case some of you are wondering i ordered my M1730 on online and was canceled but then i called in to reinstate my order and it is here now.

If only it showed an estimated ship date, as of this moment it only shows 1/1/0001, which means something is in backorder, a couple of days ago it briefly showed estimated ship date 06/08/2009, but the next day switched back to 1/1/0001... :( I bought an Asus W90, it's scheduled for delivery tomorrow but I've been reading the reviews and it seems it might just be too big for me... in fact the weight for the whole package shows 26lbs on the tracking number newegg sent me! granted that includes the backpack and power supply but I don't think those two add another 14lbs alone :( anyways I hope I get the xps so I can pick out the best one, I was hoping to be able to run some side by side benchmarks... oh well...

26lbs is about right. There's the weight of packaging and all the other good stuff too.
