VERY nice deal. Rep+
What's with the HDD pricing though? -$50 to downgrade? Or upgrade to two 320GB HDDs in RAID for $0? Or -$25 for 250GB x 2? Or only a $100 for 128GB SSD? -
I just pulled the trigger. Snagged one up for about 1400 with 12 months no interest.
-
Also got it with the 500gb drive so I have one already and will raid them up!
-
If I knew this many people would buy I I wouldn't have bought one, lol! These are going to flood eBay soon.
-
I'm a little concerned about buying the 1730 because of it's size. I currently have a Gateway FX P-7811 but I'm looking for something smaller and more mobile. Is the 1730 similar in size and weight? Or should I look into the NP8662for mobility?
-
AAACK.......I couldn't help myself.....I got one!!!
-
1730 is NOT smaller and more mobile.
-
m17300 is nice big and powerful
but its BIG
you need the sager 15 inch for portability -
The 1730 is about 2 pounds heavier and honestly is built overall better then the Gateways.
-
I couldn't help it.
makes no sense to skip it. -
What kind of 3dmark would this get with the base configuration?
-
FYI!
It appears that Dell is shipping out the 32-bit version of Vista Home Premium with this deal. I spent a lot of time on the phone this morning dealing with this issue. I asked if they would put the 64-bit version in and they said they would be happy to; and they would also charge "full" price for the system (i.e., you will pay $450 extra for that 9800M GT SLI on a base price of $999). So, if you want to run the 64-bit version and you don't already have access to one, you will need to get your own copy.
See post #16043 for a possible work around:

i snagged one as well
-
LMAO @ everyone grabbing one on impulse.
-
Not going to grab one but I checked and employee pricing works, 7 percent off and they throw in vista 64 bit. I would buy one if I was looking right now.
-
Nevermind be careful they just did an update they changed it to the 8700 M sli if you try employee pricing...
-
Was wondering what the average turn around time is on this laptop. I ordered it with overnight and was hoping to get it by the 25th.
-
-
Insane. Wish they had a deal like that in my region
-
i know that is pretty cheap
BUT
does anyone have a coupon? -
OK, I just spoke with another Dell rep about this deal. According to the rep, there are two different versions of the M1730: A and B. The A version, which is the one on sale, is somehow limited so that it can only take up to 4GB of physical RAM (hence, that is the maximum upgrade that is offered) and that is why they only ship the computer with the 32-bit OS. So, according to the rep, even if I were to install a 64-bit OS, some of my RAM would still be "lost".
OK, it was at this point that my head almost exploded. As it says by my user ID, I am a newbie to all of this and I am trying like mad to educate myself, but it is still a little confusing. I found this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605
See the 'Workaround' section. So, because the address space of this computer (or rather, the chipset) is capped at 4GB, it won't matter if I run a 64-bit OS as I still won't have all 4GB of RAM available to me. Is this correct? If so, my question is: Is this still a good deal, or should I look for a system where the chipset accepts more than 4GB of RAM? -
no man u dont need more than 4gb of ram
windows 64-bit will read all the memory -
-
man im still torn on this deal.. still cant believe how cheap this is
-
but yeah for those wondering i owned 2 of these. battery life is under an hour even while browsing. that was the only thing i was very dissapointed in.. i have this in my cart and im so about ready to grab one for my desk.. to bad the only choice is blue. i loved the grey or white

-

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...A?skuId=9172511&type=product&id=1218043606827
I will be using it primarily for gaming. -
Gotcha.....sorry for the mis-reply
-
-
that best buy one is not refurbished.
-
yeah but still
the dell has 2 GPU -
so the AGEIA PhysX™ 100M Processor doesn't worth buying?
-
-
do not get the ageia its a waste.
-
they both have 1 GB GDDR3 GPU...just that XPS is in sli (2 x 512MB). Is one supposed to be better than the other??
if so how much performance difference is between the GPU's of Gateway FX and XPS laptops??? -
I picked up crimson red myself.
-
i will stay with the blue one... its 40 bucks cheaper
-
is the CPU user upgradable to newer CPUs??
-
yeah but not the quad cores
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
WOW! That's really all I can say...
Maybe they're clearing out stock for the new Alienware "Allpowerful"? -
yeah that's true
-
any idea how long this price will last??
-
and keep in mind..i am sure they are getting regular orders for xps systems. -
thats probably what it is, 9800m gts is not the newest nvidia card anymore. -
yeah if it stays until the middle of june im getting one
