Looks like eBay pulled some of the 1.5TB auctions...sellers got a little hasty didn't they!

well only two cancellations... haha sprtnblplya did you register for that site just to call him an idiot?
-
Lolz, you know it, I noticed those goofy old guys are touchy, I like to push buttons.
Somehow I dont know if I believe those two people about the cancellation email just yet. All of Dell's sales and customer service centers are closed until tomorrow at 8am anyways, so the only likely person at any of their offices is probably the janitor and if it were up to him he would most likely fulfill all of the orders and snag a few for himself. -
ok im going to bed... nice talking to you all... and will await cancellation emails in the morning...
reps all around... -
-
Well, they haven't canceled mine. At least not yet. They had better not either.
-
10:19 still looking good...
-
12:00 still no email canceling.
I did get a paypal scam email from ipaypal that went through gmails filter and outlooks... watch out for ipaypals.com..
Anyways they are probably deciding on what to do for the situation whether it be compensation or a cheaper product, coupon, or nothing at all... -
I want the product. I don't care what they 'decide' to do...they entered a contract for that product the moment they accepted the order.
-
+Rep for OP.
*forgot yesterday* Haven't gotten cancellation email yet either. -
No cancellation yet, though I honestly do wonder if Dell will even be capable of fulfilling any orders. 1000s were probably sold.
-
Tomorrow is the big day.
-
5 am ... looking good...
-
Mine still isn't canceled, but who knows if its going to ship or not.
-
LOL anyone want to take me up on my offer? I bet $100 that these will not ship. Ok seriously do you think that Dell is really going to take $300-400 hit per drive sold? Say there were 5000 drives ordered. Do the math. That’s a LOT of money.
Dell wouldn't ship my 2GB notebook RAM sticks that I had got for $20 shipped each. I chatted with 3-4 different reps, and tried to get them to reinstate the order, or give me a concession coupon or something. No luck. Oh and the 100's possibly 1000's of others that ordered the same RAM as I did got there orders cancelled as well. Dell's cancellation email was sent about a week after the order was placed. -
-
i bought one too, but then i read this on dell's terms of sale:
Payment Terms; Orders; Quotes; Interest. Terms of payment are within Dell's sole discretion, and unless otherwise agreed to by Dell, payment must be received by Dell prior to Dell's acceptance of an order. Payment for the products will be made by credit card, wire transfer, or some other prearranged payment method unless credit terms have been agreed to by Dell. Invoices are due and payable within the time period noted on the reverse side of this invoice, measured from the date of the invoice. Dell may invoice parts of an order separately. Your order is subject to cancellation by Dell, at Dell's sole discretion. Unless you and Dell have agreed to a different discount, Dell's standard pricing policy for Dell-branded systems, which include both hardware and services in one discounted price, allocates the discount off list price applicable to the service portion of the system to be equal to the overall calculated percentage discount off list price on the entire system. Dell is not responsible for pricing, typographical, or other errors, in any offer by Dell and reserves the right to cancel any orders resulting from such errors.
i'm not so optimistic now.... -
we know... but its fun to take a chance... enough with the party pooping... -
"They reserve the right." Doesn't mean they'll use it...though I do have a problem with Dell accepting an order and then refusing it.
"Oops! Even though we screwed up, accepted the order, and processed it...we're still going to cancel it because it isn't in our interest...we apologize for the inconvenience."
This has to be a legal gray area, because their 'right' to cancel is largely dependent on if the law considers the purchase 'binding' when you submit the order or if when Dell ships/charges it.
Maybe its possible that Dell didn't sell many, thus will keep good will and ship. Maybe they're considering their best options, as making customers happy might bring more business in later, and screwing them might damage the company more than the cost saved by not shipping the drives. This is where they need to consider the long term impact of their decisions. Cancel all, cancel those with more than X ordered, cancel none...? They're sitting there trying to figure out how to maximize Dell's advantage of the situation, and they do not care one bit about what we think.
They have a lot to think about, but the ethical choice would be to ship IMHO. The customer is always right, especially once Dell has put a hold on my CC funds. -
I doubt they ship these, but I'm sure they are sitting in a meeting room discussing what would be the best options for compensation, whether it be a gift card for a small amount to their dell store, or a coupon. I really doubt in this situation they will just cut it off with no form of compensation. -
just had my order canceled....
"Thank you for your recent order.

-
it's not looking promising. they don't even offer any sort of remorse...oh, sorry, we screwed up but you get nothing. **** Dell.
-
NOOOOOO...

I got canceled as well. No offer of compensation or anything, and that ticks me off...their mistake...
-
*cries himself to sleep...
-
ha, all the people on e-bay are going to be like...sorry...
-
In the meantime, I will be posting over at ResellerRatings about this. Dell is just doing what's right for them, and not what is ethical IMHO.
They've done this before too, and all ended not-so-well-for-us-but-well-for-them:
1) A few years ago a similar mistake was made with a 40 or 80GB WD HDD or similar.
2) 8800GT issue, same pricing thingy, that was later in 2007
3) 1.5TB thing we're talking about -
I haven't gotten a cancellation email yet. Which is kinda odd.
-
But, honestly, i dont care that we dont get it. I also dont think dell is doing anything wrong by canceling. It says right on the product page that orders will be canceled and not honored if the price is not correct. -
greg if you get any feedback from dell let us know... i wouldnt mind getting compensation...
-
I just got off the phone with Dell.
They say the drives are on 10 day backorder?!?!?!?!?
The CS rep says that my order is still "In Production," despite my receiving that email. This reflects what the website says, which is "In Production."
So I'm gonna wait until the drives are either canceled or shipped, and then figure it out. But I'm still thinking this isn't going to happen.
EDIT: Some people at FW have said that the emails may be fake, as any pictures included in that email were sourced from a non-Dell URL. Not to give anyone false hope, but its possible someone is trying to lead us all astray for their own gain. I'm in 100% until Dell's online tools show canceled. -
Well, I ordered mine about 40 mins after Greg ordered his. Still no cancellation email. I'm not begging for one though, just found it out.
-
-
Chances are its the real thing, but so long as my order still says "In Production" I'm fighting for it. -
-
-
i wont burst your bubble... i wont make you believe in something thats different from what you believe... -
-
Interesting analysis of the email we all got on this forum:
http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?catid=74&threadid=806246&start=820 -
Has anyone's order shown up as canceled on the website?
Twice now, Dell has confirmed to me by email that the order is still in the queue. -
Mine got canceled on the website. I haven't received any cancellation email at all though.
-
Mine was just canceled. So now I have Dell for lying to me twice, because I asked them twice about it and cited the email in my conversations.
-
I'm actually fascinated to see how long it would take them to email me about the cancellation.
-
Ha! Dell's getting slammed over at Reseller Ratings! These HDDs are not the only thing they've 'mispriced' recently so it seems.
-
Look at RAM on Dells site, they have all kinds of miss-marked RAM, specifically kingston. Like the title might say 2GB'sx2 laptop 200 pin 667mhz memory, but then if you go and look into the actual description it shows that it is 1GB of 667Mhz 240pin desktop memory. I could point out about 10-20 errors within a few minutes. Terrible!
What did impress me though is that I ordered about 15 things from Dell using a $25 off code. Like I got 3 v220 mice for $7 shipped and nice Jabra bluetooth headsets for $7 shipped. Got a couple kingston 4GB flash drives for $7 shipped also. Got a logitech headset completely free, including shipping. And a handful of other things. -
Hahaha...I threatened Dell with a bait-n-switch lawsuit because they only offer the 2TB SimpleTech Pro Duo drive now, and they pulled the 2TB drive off the shelves too.
-1 Dell, +1 me. -
Hahahaha.
That's hilarious.
