if your going to do eGPU you better get an ivy bridge because of the PCIe 3.0*

*I think that is right. I could have sworn something about IB was better for eGPU because of the PCIe or something

You're further complicating my choices lol. I was also ready to buy a Eurocom Fox 4.0 with the 3610qm+GT 650m for $740 shipped but their site glitched on me. I don't think there's another laptop with a quad core Ivy Bridge anywhere near that price so it definitely sucks.

you could just get a 400 dollar laptop with IB that has a express card and through in a eGPU lol. I was debating that to dump my laptop for a cheap laptop with a good CPU and just do an eGPU

not sure check tiger direct and newegg. they have good deals on crap laptops. Tiger direct always has deals on the 400ish range.

EDIT: double check the eGPU thread to make sure i am right that the IB is PCIe3.0

    also must have express card

yea but that is a pain you have to open the bottom of the case and leave it open or make a hole...not preferred for him because he wants to move it around too.

    Thanks guys!

BUT, why doesn't the 25% coupon for the Alienware laptop/desktop work? Am I doing something wrong?

I build my M18 and add to cart...I type in the code, hit apply coupon, and nothing changes....?

Man this would be sweet if it would work. Is it only for the outlet, and or the registered user?

    Thanks

I just tested it, it works fine. Then I came back and noticed this:
"I build my M18 and add to cart"

This is an Outlet Coupon. You can't build these, they are refurbs. You must be trying to use the Outlet Coupon to buy a New computer. Won't work.

You can always use a reshipping service to solve this problem. Just make sure you call your credit card company first and have this USA address filled in their "alternative address".

Limited time offer, while supplies last.

    Coupon Code:
    LDJ?DC8GW3F5L1

They upped it from $100 off to 20% off then now $150 off. Brings it to 245 after shipping/tax for the 64gb model. Sure, its not surface... but for 250 to mess around with win8.... not a bad deal.

Be warned that the reviews say that the tablet is pretty slow (atom)... but from the tablet portion of this site, people who have installed 8 say that it really speeds up the tablet. Also the pen implications for things like photo editing have their advantages. I jumped on one, seeing as I have really been eyeballing this and the inspiron duo, I said to myself if I could get one for 250, I'd do it.

why nit get one of the tablets with a SB? though it baffled me how Asus and sony always release a tablet windows device 1 gen late. Asus released the tabekt right before SB i thought and Sony or Samsung released one with SB right after IB came out....why? lol

The price is the key... If the sb tablets were in the 250 range after shipping and taxes... sure... but they are still ranging at LEAST double the cost. Those also do not come with the stylus, etc... Dell has the 21 day "test drive" anyway... so if it does not fit my needs, I can always send it back for a refund. I am hoping that it works out well... I don't want to do anything intense on it, but there are a few things that my xoom can't do that would be really nice with a windows powered tablet.

Are these refurbished models trustworthy? My mom wants one, but she's really afraid that they will come defective, or even scratched!

And what is this "sb" you're talking about?

He was talking of Sandy Bridge vs Ivy Bridge... This uses an Atom which is very different from those aforementioned processors.

There is a "scratch and dent" model that may have some scratches and dents... there is a refurbished model that will be 99% perfect. There may be a scuff. The glass would likely be fine. Plus, its gorilla glass , so that stuff is really sturdy and scratch resistant. (I'm pretty sure in a refurb glass is replaced anyway)

There is a 1 year warranty, so if anything happens down the line, you send it back to them and they fix it too. This is on top of the 21 day no restocking fee policy. I love ordering from the dell outlet when the prices are too good to pass up. First mod is the removal of the refurbished sticker on the bottom though.

That's the problem, I'm from Brazil and I'm going to Las Vegas next week will spend a month there, and I'm buying everything cheap I can lol, but if it stops working, I'll have a really hard time sending them back to RMA from Brazil. I'd go for the cheap $230 model, is 32GB enough? This seems to be only "Refurbished", not the scratch and dent thing. Is this product any good? Is it really slow like you guys were saying?

Yes... its slow... It depends on what you will need it for though. If its a toy, then slow is fine.... If you are intending it to be your only machine, then I would suggest something different.

I got the 64gb refurbished for 230. I can't imagine 32 will be enough. I think windows alone is 16.

if your doing anything more then web browsing or word and stuff like that your going to hate it. I personally think atoms suck. The ULV SB/IB are the minimum in my eyes

Totally agree, atoms are nothing but a remnant of a 10 year old technology. FYI, even some hard drives have more powerful CPU's inside, lol.

i find my series 3 netbook meh at times with the i3-2357M granted putting it in perspective for a 11 inch netbook it is awesome but i could still use more :)

I would love to see a tablet with the new IB ULV because they will be awesome due to battery life, power, and gpu...mmmmm so awesome. ARM can't touch 22nm and x86 when it comes to overall package. When i get some money and ASUS or Samsung actually release an updated windows tablet i'll buy one but with this BS of 1 gen behind i could care less.

Sooooo I'm not going to beat around the bush with this one... the St is a DOG... I figured it could run some photoshop apps and picture editing would be ok... yea right... I think this is the quickest return I will have ever made. As soon as I loaded up a few programs, the performance dropped rapidly and the responsiveness of the screen even seemed to suffer. Youtube can't be played above 480, full screen videos show either no picture or really distorted sound. Netflix was suprisingly ok though. I cant believe dell still sells these new for 799. I guess if I didn't already have an android tablet, I would have kept it, but as a 3rd tablet (albeit first windows) in my home... its gonna hit the return mail.

and that will be a real tablet :)

I would dual boot win 7 though...Win8 is going to be a failure unless the community redoes the layout back to Win Classic view. It is supposed to be possible from what i have read a long time ago.

Win 8 plus touchscreen is a win... I don't what you are getting at... either way, this thread is about dell coupons... i'm sure the mods are going to get mad if we keep going off track.

That's a bummer. I guess Win 8 is going to need more resources than typical tablets can provide. That is unless their ARM version works better with the current hardware.
