I guess the employee pricing craze has hit CompUSA. Special pricing is only available July 15th-16th!
Details can be found here.
Example - The HP "Livestrong" L2005CU is offered for $1288 (Regularly $1399) with no mail-in rebates required (I purchased the same notebook and got the same price after mail-in rebates during the 4th of July sale.)
Note - There are significant restrictions for customers wanting to pricematch. Basically, if you took advantage of the special financing, mail-in rebates or other special "perks" you do not qualify for a pricematch.
Looks like a good time to but a notebook, eh?![]()

It's not bargain at all, 50-200 bucks off on most systems, thats it. Not worth it. I went there today because I have been meaning to purchase a new comp and it just wasn't even worth buying it then and there.

I work at office depot as their tech sales guy. From what I've heard all the big retailers suck when it comes to discounts. We get 10%, I thought CompUSA got a little bit better, I know the Epson & HP Reps say the discounts are a joke for them too. The only time I think the discounts are worth it are on returned computers.
90% of the time when a laptop is returned or exchanged its because it's to "slow" when really its just within the past 3-4 days that the customer had it they managed to get every spyware & virus infected in the machine. I just reformat it and take off 10% and sell it to the public. That's when most employees will pick it up, they'll get 10% off for it being used and 10% on their employee discount. And if you work in retail selling computers, another perk is if something (hardware) goes wrong, usually your manager will let you D&D it and swap it for a good one without having to go through the manufactor. -
Most employee discounts on computers are a joke because there's very little mark up on them. I work at Best Buy and our discount is a tiny percent above wholesale. That translates to anywhere from $25 to $80 off on a notebook, for example. If it's a loss-leader promo machine there's obviously no discount at all.
So yeah, the best deals are open box deals. Sometimes if you get on good terms with the boss you can haggle him to take a few extra dollars off that open box machine. -
I have this notebook, and it is suh-weet. I am a bit annoyed though because I just found out that my rebate was rejected. I sent in the UPC from the box and I unfortunately did not make a copy of it.
I am basically SOL. Does anybody have a photocopy of a UPC from the compusa version? L2005cu? They gave me three weeks to come up with a UPC... I would be willing to split the $150 rebate with someone who purchased it too late. It is better than nothing.
But not to detract from the notebook, this thing is really a blast. Great screen and awesome battery life with the 12 cell battery it ships with. -
How much battery life are you getting?
-
Based on how I'm using it, I'm getting between 5-6 hours on a charge. If I use it with my treo as a modem, with a charger cable, it sends juice to the phone and I get about 4 and a half hours with it.

If there's any CompUSA employees here, do you guys know in advance what sale you have on the weekends?
