I still have my stuff unused from last years events. Im signed up again! Thanks!
-
Do I need to attend both the AM and PM event to get a free copy? I'm not a developer so I don't want to attend the morning session.
-
Bah......this is so sad.....I'd probably even kinda be legitly eligible to attend this since I work for my University's IT department part-time but I don't have the time......
Do they do this every year? -
-
Registered. Be warned however: for those IT professionals that work for the U.S. government, certain criteria must first be met before you can receive any kind of gifts that Microsoft intends to give you:
-
Oh nice so that's what you get if you go? I signed up for the developer session but do they still give you those same things or only for IT professional session? -
-
-
Free virus for installing windows!
-
-
Just registered. I waited too long and got wait-listed though. I hope I can still get in.
-
I'm registered for the Atlanta event.
-
Damn, wanted to register for NYC but it's filled. Can't even register for the wait list it seems.
Thanks for the heads up though OP. -
I attended the MS event today and received my free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, along with a key for a free copy of Norton Anti-Virus 2010, a free Microsoft T-shirt, and a Symantec micro vacuum. It was an overall interesting presentation. Microsoft Azure is pretty cool.

I don't know why they don't come to Honolulu anymore. I didn't stay for the entire events to get the goods. I listened to one event (I was supposed to stay in for two) and I got out. They gave me the goods..
-
I attended in Miami on the 24th, it was cool, but some lectures are more interesting than others. One thing to note is that the copy of Win7 ultimate recieved at the event only has a 32bit edition disk. Hope my key will work on a 64x disk if I find one. Still not bad though, I enjoyed the event.
-
They handed out the disc after each block of sessions. I was there from 9:00am until 11:45am and left with my disc. Mine was a 32-bit disc also. Hopefully it is 64-bit too, if not, I get the free upgrade from Toshiba and the free signature edition of Win 7 Ultimate from the houseparty that I will be having soon.
-
So, can anyone confirm or verify that you also get the 64-bit version, or that at least the key included with the 32-bit works on a 64-bit install?
I wonder why would they only give out the 32-bit version? -
man i want 64 bit.. i dont wanna have to actually pay $50 for my upgrade pre-order
-
Still no word on whether these are only 32-bit? Also, I'm unsure of how this is actually supposed to work. Do only the people that signed up for the Windows 7 event get the Windows 7 disk? Meaning if someone signed up for Server 2008 (due to lack of space on the W7 one) do you still get the W7 disk?
More people that went to the events need to fill us up on the details. -
the disc only has the 32bit version. Which is idiotic, because this is an event supposedly full of developers and IT pros, the vast majority who are already running 64 bit oses.
-
went to the Detroit event today in Commerce, MI. just thought i'd share my experience...
showed up at 12:15pm, got in line, scanned my email, got a little goodie bag with a microsoft t-shirt, trial copy of windows server 2008, norton 2010 key, and some other wasted paper.
got a free mini usb vacuum from symantec. this thing is a piece of crap and doesnt even work. whatever, it was free.
the lady from symantec looked at my nametag which said
"George XXXXX"
Vandelay Industries
she was like "hey, that's not a real company."
then the symantec dude asked me if i ever saw seinfeld and gave me an attitude. i walked away, grabbed a coke, some trail mix and a granola bar lol.
sat through an hour of windows 7 crap presentation in a movie theater with a bunch of dorky dudes.
went home for 2 hours.
went back, picked up my Windows 7, went home.
currently working on obtaining a 64 bit version of Win 7 Ultimate since they handed out 32 bit only.
sigh -
I have to wait until the 20th for Chicago. -
by the way, for the youngsters out there that are wondering, they did not check ID's, just scanned the barcode from the confirmation email -
Thanks for the info bro.
If I may ask, how exactly are you working on getting the 64-bit? You mean on your own or via the valid key that was given for the 32-bit or something like that?
Thanks man. -
i havent tried it, but i worked on vista. -
Thanks a lot! -
I'm downloading it on my own via the frowned upon method.
-
Nice. This is what I'm dreaming of..
-
-
Question: If you registered for the Server 2008, will you also be eligible to receive the Windows 7 Disk or not?
-
-
Make you sure you sign up for the text alerts for the event... AND once the event is over you might get a text asking you to comment on the event, DO THAT.
Just got a text message from msevents saying I won a free copy of Halo ODST!

i am currently here at the ms event and this thing is a little boring but somewhat informative. half the people are here for the free software. currently still waiting for win 7, check back in later
-
Just wanted to let everyone to know that I just attended the event in Orange and they did give me the option of getting the 64 bit version, but I had to fill out a form and they said they would ship it to me in 30 day. The version they give at the event is the 32bit and the lady said you can't use the key for the 64bit version.
-
That is odd. I haven't tried it myself (sold that copy) but can anyone confirm you cannot use 32-bit key they gave out on a 64-bit version? I don't see how you wouldn't be able to, but who knows.
-
I used the key I got from the event with a windows 7 ultimate 64x disk I got in my party pack. Worked perfectly.
-
I am getting ready to attend the event in Baltimore in about two weeks. I am currently registered for both the Developer (morning session) and IT Professional (afternoon) tracks.
Can anyone confirm when Microsoft gives out the software? I have class at 6:00PM and Baltimore is about a 90 minute drive from where I live. If Microsoft doesn't give out the software until the end of the event (IT Professional track which ends at 4:45PM) then I don't think I'll have enough time to attend the afternoon event for the software and get back in time for class. -
If you leave early you can still snag your disk on the way out but if you are attending the morning session too you will get your copy before the afternoon session starts.
-
1. Welcome in the lobby.
2. Register, get sticker with name on it and stickers for software
3. Breakfast
4. Attend seminar you registered for
5. Break
6. Another presentation
7. People wait by the door of the conference room to give you the DVD in exchange for the ticket.
8. Afternoon welcoming begins.
Same as above but longer. -
some lady from symantec almost blew my cover. i ran.
yes, the key works if you can find a copy of the 64 bit. just to recap, i went, checked in, went home for a couple hours, came back for my free copy. also, symantec gave out this super crappy mini laptop vac. it didn't work. oh yeah, and free NIS 2010 for a year. and a crappy t-shirt. and a granola bar, apple, soda, trail mix.
thanks, microsoft.Attached Files:

I think you got better stuff than we did at NY.
We got:
1. Windows 7
2. T-Shirt (XL) (Included in bag)
3. Norton Key 1-year (Included in bag)
4. Free V-Space Book offer (Included in bag, book obviously out of stock)
3. Orange highlighter/pen (Not in the bag, gotta hunt it down)
4. AMD pen (Not in the bag, gotta hunt it down)
5. Calculator (Not in the bag, gotta hunt it down)
That's it I think. Oh and coffee with a bagel, also a bottle of water.
I don't know about the afternoon since I bailed out right after I got my DVD. -
Thanks very much for the quick responses guys. Most likely, I'll show up for the first session and skip out on the second so that I can make it out on time for class.
@ Sublime, can you recap on the key being usable on a copy of a 64-bit version of Windows 7? How do you go about do that? Maybe you could put together a mini-walkthrough or something? -
Just look around the W7 forums here at NBR and download the files available legally. Then just use the key from the DVD you get on the 64-bit version.

Attended the event in Baltimore. Was a bit boring and dry, although the presenters did their best to spice things up a bit. Got my Windows 7 Ultimate disc, 32-bit version though. =)
