Sounds like a good find for those in the IT field to get a chance to snag it early!

Hello, My Name Is
GEORGE
Vandelay Industries -
Nice, I'm thinking the same thing
-
Is Windows 7 that bad that they have to give it away already...?
-
Is Windows 7 going to come in several different versions, like Vista?
If so, I wonder if the one they will give away will be the most stripped down version? -
if my eyes wasnt wrong
w7 professional for free? well thats nice....at least its better than home premium

From what I read there are 3 versions, home, pro and ultimate. -
Usually they give the business or best versions of Windows at these events.
-
These events are pretty cool. I was going to go to one a few years back for the Server 2008 release but I had class during the event. You get all kinds of free goodies and the versions they give out are full copies.
-
I wish I could go to this, but its too far (and i'm in high school so not an IT person or Developer (yet
))
-
Wow, great find. Maybe I could get my dad to go, since he maybe just might fall under the "Technical Decision Maker" role

Do you have to provide all your company/work place details? Can you just be a regular person and attend?
-
You can, it's not like you are forbidden to attend, but it is generally for IT professionals which give them new software to try out and implement in their work environment. The majority of people that attend these events are paid by their employer to attend. You'll need to attend all of the presentations before you get the software so it's an all day event.
-
Uh what? MS does this for a ton of products. And they aren't just giving it away. It is for developers to get a taste and go to presentations to see what the new software can do. But congrats on trolling.
-
wow...I cant even joke...

It looks to be free correct? And can you use the software for your own personal home PC or is that not allowed? -
Yeah, you can install it on your home PC no problem. It is free but like I said you'll have to sit through the presentations and stuff unless you can get the software at registration.
-
Yes, the Event is free, you will receive the copy of Win 7 for free...and you can use it on your Home PC!

I hear you man.
Anyways, I signed up since I sometimes install computer systems and broadband internet services for people in my community. They also call me with questions about their desktops. I think I qualify as a non profit IT worker lol. -
I'm gonna see if I can get my boss to give me a paid vacation day to go to this...
(Actual IT Professional, actually interested in the presentations as well as free Windows 7) -

Hey..thanks for the headsup. Last time I attended one of these conferences was for the launch of the Office 2007. Aside from the free software, the conference itself is pretty good. I had some fun.
However, with this one, at least in the Los Angeles area, I could not attend the track that I wanted but oh well. Hopefully, it's Win7 Ultimate but they won't give that out until the end of the day. -

Thanks Cin and Atbnet. I don't mind going to the event and sitting there all day and gettting it at the end, I am interested in hearing about Win 7. I am an IT professional myself but I will be going in my own time and on my own accord. My work will not advocate this or allow me to go to the event through them.
Therefore I wanted to know if I could just go as an individual and not coming from a company. -
Hey, if I could, I would go now...lol
Free Win7 now is better than wait for it to arrive when you buy the laptop... -
i registered for the Detroit event, oct. 28.

Do you know if there are giving any specific version of Windows 7? -
Look at the picture on the site, it says Win 7 Professional.
-
The IT Professional Windows 7 Track is full but the IT Professional Windows Server 2008 R2 Track is still open. Do you guys think I can sign up for that one but attend the windows 7 track instead?
-
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
Free software worth 300$. hmmmm
-
Hm, lucky me. my brother works for a company partners with Microsoft. I get to use all the software for free.
-
Has anyone actually been to one of these events? How do they operate? Do they check people/companies' backgrounds? Do you have to show ID? Would I need to know any specific information?
Most importantly: will there be free food? -
Haha, I agree - free food is a must! Too bad, there isn't an event in Las Vegas
.
-
Sorry, I think you can only attend the one that you have specifically signed up for!
I would imagine possibly some type of *free something* would be served...whether it be...coffee/juice/donuts...(mmm Donuts Homer Simpson would like that)
in the am, etc...
Lunch time your prolly on your own.
Cin... -
aw too far. If anyone has a spare copy I call first lol.
-
do you have to go to the window 7 track to get window 7 pro? Or can you attend winder server 2008 r2 and still get the OS.
-
(never mind)
-
i recall after signing up reading that photo id would be required when you get there.
-
i have a driver license but i just got that like 6 months ago =\
-
I remember reading during registration that you could attend any and all events, and that picking which one from the list was only for planning purposes.
-
I'm on the waitlist for the Seattle one, probably not going to get access (all the Microsoft people there....I should ask one of my friends if he can get me into the launch event, actually.)
-
It looks like you get free breakfast if you go to the 7am developer session. For the afternoon session (IT professional) you get a "snack pack."
Other than that I'm wondering what you are as well. I'm what someone else has said a local non-profit IT professional. -
-
I got free Office 2007 Pro when it first came out. Too bad they're not doing one in Honolulu.
-
i sent an email to MS yesterday, they replied today and said you need to be 18 or older.. Sucks to be me =/. 9 months too young.
