Mine had the DTG on it.

I used the coupon, altough she did scan the 10% off and not the 12%... GAH!
but yea.. DTG and DEG aparently have the 7k200 -
interesting! DEG and DTG!
-
May-07 7200rpm goodness!
(i was soo excited i swapped the drive in the parking lot... haha)
-
well the coupon expired on the 10th i thought if that is the case i missed out anyway..
-
But yea, the coupon for the next month wont be out for like 2-3 weeks... -
guys,
thanks for the link. i bought this yesterday. Have not checked if its 7200 or 5400 yet...its a DTG though.
It shows up as 185GB only though....what gives?? where's the remaining 15gigs?? -
LOL I'm a newbie too, so excuse the words -
So I don't get how this got past hitachi...sellling good 7200 for junk 5400 prices? Just becuase the label may say 7200 could it be a wrong label? or was it proved through some types of test that the drive spins at 7200rpm?
EDIT: (yes I left it there so you can see my stupidity) So to answer my own question...it seems that it would be a real 7200 drive but I read a previous post in here that the burst rate is slower...which turns out to be true after doing some googling, Any one think that will make a difference? -
Well you have to consider the retailer too. They have some part in setting the price.
-
My guess is that Hitachi was supposed to deliver a quantity of 200G drives, but their manufacturing line was set up for 7200 RPM. They had a choice of delivering drives over specification or not delivering or re-tooling the line. They balanced all the costs and shipped 7200RPM.
By-the-way my BB has 8 of these things for $139 (sale price ends today) all with DTG serial numbers and they are the least expensive 200G 2.5 externals in the store. I bought a 7k200 from zipzoomfly two weeks ago for $200.
My question is: are the drives truly different? People have reported lower burst rates, what would account for that? I presume all the measurments were taken with the drive internal not external? -
Well, Hitachi issues aside, I dont think the drives are different. Not everyone has the same laptop, and therefore there are variables, aka, different chipsets, different programs for benchmarking, etc etc.
-
I think you are right. I just ran HD Tune on my 7k200 from zipzoomfly and the parameters look close enough. Within multiple runs I saw enough result variation that I believe that the drive in the BB external unit is indeed the exact same as a standard 7k200.
I could just kick myself. I thought and thought about getting one of the external hitachi's from BB, but was put off by the 5400rpm speed printed on the box. I kept thinking, that maybe hitachi really only made one 200g drive and was stuffing the 7k200 in the external units too. In the end I didn't have the guts to pull the trigger and find out, so I bought from zzf for $60 more.
Kick meet self...
Now I wish I had an excuse to buy another, but I've only got one laptop that supports sata. -
pocketpenguin, thanks for confirming that OEM 7k200 performs on par with the 7k200 from the enclosure... Of course, it doesn't make you feel better, but you probably could console in the fact that $60 bought you full 3 year warranty while these ones won't probably get any support because they have been removed from the enclosure
-
As i re read it that made perfect sense...
We can overclock great becuase sometimes intel will make a lot of e6850, but newegg might want e6550, thus they rerate the e6850.
Is this still aplicable going to check my best buy soon? -
The 10-12% coupon expired 3 days ago. however I know Best Buy often distributes these coupons every month.
-
Yea I have like a zillion coupons was asking if the things still may contian the 7200's?
-
I just Bought one DTG, Hdtune says HTS722020k9SA00, I haven't opened it yet but that is the 7200rpm one correct?

That is the 7200rpm drive.
-
Apparently, mover's package in a postal office contains a 10% off coupon valid until Jan 2008. Not sure if it's regional or not, but won't hurt to check it out. Hopefully, BB will still have this drive on sale for $140 or $150 like it has been in the past few weeks.
-
Went into a BestBuy today. I found the specifc item but the price is still $169 unfortunately.
-
did you run a price-check? 'cause it's supposed to be $139.99 until midnight today.
-
I bought a DTG s/n Hitachi 200 gb Harddrive at the Bellevue, WA Best Buy Store. It was still $139.99. Thanks again for the heads up on this deal!
-
Also I'm considering using Acronis migrate easy 7.0 to clone my old HD to this new one..anyone have an experience with this software program? Thank you for your time and help.
-
I've used Seagate-branded Acronis drive imaging software, worked well for copying vista partition (not so well for Dell MediaDirect partition).
BTW, deal appears to be dead... minimum you can get it now is for around $155 after coupon -
anyone know of any other places to get this same drive any cheaper than best buy... i didnt even see it on most web sites??
-
zfactor, you'll be better off getting an OEM 7k200 imo... or just wait a little, BB is bound to put this one up for sale, again...
-
Even at $172, the USB drive is still a better deal than paying $205 on NewEgg for the oem...............
-
I finally installed it. Vista bootup times are FAR improved compared to my 4200rpm 200gb fujitsu drive. Here's the HDTune
BEFORE
AFTER
What a difference!
It was a little jumpy in the middle because Windows wouldnt stop accessing the HDD.
I dont know why you guys have lower burst rates. -
this deal is back! Not sure if there are any coupons, but it's on sale again for $142.99.
-
nice i wish there was a coupon.. anyone know of any
-
-

O yeh n can you buy it online, and then go instore n pick it up, but still use the 10% off coupon? -
I purchased it with the 10% off coupon in the link above. Hooked it up via USB and it is indeed 7200.
Thanks to the OP. -
Thnx can you do this:
O yeh n can you buy it online, and then go instore n pick it up, but still use the 10% off coupon?
Or do you have to print off the coupon go instore, buy it, and use coupon? -
mAH
Has anyone took into consideration the additional power it will need to run a 7200/200 HD? -
Nah not really =)
-
-
My notebook is pretty powerhungry so I havent considered it. I posted benches if anyone is interested in them 2 pages back on the bottom.
-
my friend is holding mine for me getting it tomm..
-
Up until yesterday, Zipzoomfly had the bare drives on sale for $139.00 w/free shipping.
-
dohhhh wish i would have seen that
-
-
Just picked up another drive today at $120 something.. its still on sale at mine?
Anways, i got about the same read and write average speeds, but my burst is 110 mb/s and my seek is like 18ms and scattered through, unlike your nice bands shown on here...
Is it my macbook pro?
EDIT: And yes, DEG is a 7k200 as well as DTG... -
Guys - will Acronis 10 create and image all the partitions from a m1210, including Media Direct and Recovery partitions? Does it clone all partitiions at once, or do you have to do it individually? I was lucky to pick up one of the Hitachi 7k200 drives and want to image my entire drive over.
-
So is the bare drive better than the external?
Hitachi 7k200 drive in USB enclosure - $131.99AC+tax @ BB
