Has anybody run this laptop with an inverter? If you did was it a modified sine wave or pure sine wave?

I ask because I want to run Microsoft GPS on a trip in my car. From my research most laptops will run with modified sine wave "cheaper". The pure sine wave is much more expensive.

The pure is the least apt to do bad things like system crash etc.
I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks Pat.

I've been running one off of a mini inverter in a big rig for 6 months now, no problems. It's a modified sine 100w about 4in. sq. and 1in. thick. It has a single AC plug and a USB charger plug. About $40 at truck stops. I also use it for the MS streets with the USB GPS, setup works great.

I bought a pure sine for my moving trip to Oregon. I could not get my GPS to work properly though. My laptop seemed to want to freeze when running off the inverter?

Now my Westinghouse laptop is crashing to a blue screen! I re-loaded the Operating system and hell it is still doing it.

Has anyone had bad drivers causing problems. This is what Microsoft keeps saying is the problem.

The last error that come up is possible bad hardware?

Nice, I will try to deal with it before the warranty expires.

I am in Central PA and have the same problem as Melcro.
Westinghouse refuses to send me a battery so I can back up my PC before I send it to them for replacement.
I bought this in Nov, 06 and it died Feb, 07. Pin is not broken, it just stopped accepting AC power. By the time I realized my battery was dying and not recharging, I only had 45 min left.
Westinghouse said they would send another PC, but not another battery. There are 300+ Income Tax Returns on this PC, I do free tax prep for the IRS VITA program. No way I cannot send this PC to Westinghouse with this information on it!
The last time I spoke to them, they were having a manager call me - I'm still waiting for the call :)
Checking the net I cant find a battery to buy. This is almost out of warrantee - can someone help me

Has anyone replaced the hard drive? Mine is getting full and I am planning to replace it with WDC-WD1600BEAS. I wonder how easy it is to replace it.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but I need help. If anyone could tell me if the NB-14w2's fan comes on at the very beginning of booting up it would be helpful. I just did some work trying to fix the LCD Screen and I'm afraid I screwed up the fan. I might just be paranoid but I thought I remember the fan running at the very beginning. If anyone could tell me if there fan runs when it is first turned on it would help me a lot.

A few people said that they were looking in to upgrading their cpu to either a core duo or core 2 duo. If anyone has done such then I would love to know if it works properly, what the battery life is and how fast the computer heats up.

On another note if anyone is having problems with the heat I would suggest getting a notebook cooler from tigerdirect.com or newegg.com that is usb powered because that is what I have done for about 15$ and I haven't had any heating problems that worry me.
    Thanks,

I am a loptop tech and have been for about 15 years now , working on intel based systems form the 386, and pentium classes. Received one of these units for a dc jack replacement, and i would highly recommend NOT getting one. There is no room nor expansion for a port replicator. Mainly though these system are made of flimsy plastic, so can see that easy to break if even dropped from 1'. the internal components are okay, but mainly really cheap weak plastics. really important for notebook life expetancy. You really need to shop around and look at them physically. the toughest notebooks i've seen and worked on are like panasonics though books, and fujitsu's line, but then you are paying extra for battle laptops. the worst thus far is awarded to Westinghouse (their intro to the notebook world). Shop around, and ask questions like this.

Ok I sent my Laptop on DEC, 12th to be exact. They received it on DEC15th. After weeks and months of calling westinghouse customer service with no answers to the status of my laptop. I was finally called back 5 days ago by a supervisor informing me to call the company my laptop to sent to just to get some answers.....hmmm
Westinghouse after almost two months of calling, you should have provided
that information from the break seeing that you guys are so incompentant
    you couldnt do that yourselves.
Anyway after calling someone at the Elite group company, which were so
nice and understanding.. (take a tip westinghouse). They sent me copies of an email requesting for the laptop to be repaired since at the time it was sent in it was still under warrenty. Could you believe after almost two months they hadnt signed the quote Elite sent on DEC 17th so that it could be repaired.

Its cheaper time wise to just fix the problem yourself. I dont think I would buy a Westinghouse TV if this is what customer service and their warrenty
    dept. is like. Never AGAIN.

Oh and it was just a simple problem the DVD burner need to change. Also
their cheap no good battery was an issue, which they are not changing.
but are requesting I pay for a new one... thanks westinghouse.

I am looking for the mother board to see if I can find drivers more up to date at Intel. Unless it is not an Intel motherboard. I will have to track down the other drivers as well.

It has the screen of death and says it is being caused be a driver.

    Thanks for any help

Keep in mind they have an approved list of memory that needs to be used for this laptop.
    Otherwise you could have problems.

In fact I found a list a couple of months ago of compatible memory but forgot how I stumbled onto it. I can't find it now and Westinghouse said a list does not exist??????

I've had this computer for approximately a year and a half and it is a piece of crap. The battery doesn't last too long, it heats up extremely fast, it wireless card doesn't get a signal half the time, and now my COMS battery is malfunctioning.
Does anyone know exactly which CMOS battery I need right now and how to install it before i get another computer?

I bought this laptop a couple of months ago and so far it's been great. (I mostly use it for internet and school work)

But a couple of weeks ago the hard drive just stopped working so know I'm trying to replace it.
I don't know much about hard drives so I need some help.

I found this WD hard drive online and I just wanted to know if it's compatible with this laptop. Also any thoughts about this hard drive will be greatly appreciated.

That HD should be fine, as I'm guessing this notebook, like most/all, takes a 2.5" HD.

ah this thread reminds me of the black friday $399 laptops that people would wait 24 hours in cold weather to buy, yet, the next day you could find them on craigslist for $450. that's almost a $17 savings if you waited in line!
