How many times can you use this? Will the code expire after 4/5 uses?

Wow, finally got my backup DVD in the mail today. Took long enough. I wasn't planning upgrading till Thanksgiving break anyway, but 18 days from ship date is a long time to wait. Not that I am complaining as I could really care less, but the packaging is rather dull being nothing more than plain white sleeve with COA sticker. Also it would have been nice to have included both 32-bit and 64-bit editions on the DVD like the retail, but you get what you pay for.

i got my DVD today aswell, 9 days after order 7 after shipping date... pretty good if u ask me... im thinking about going down to one of the local retail stores and asking if i can either have or buy 2 of their boxes...

also the DVD is a full DVD (as in 'upgrade' is not written on the DVD, but it also has written on the DVD 'backup disk'...)

also i got two (1 atm, still sorting crap out with digital river for the other) copies as i used both my high school and uni email address...

maybe you could try and see if ur uni could change you email address? make up some excuse... lol. it worth a try =D

You most certainly do not have to upgrade right away. Microsoft has remedied the launch situation by distributing an ISO of the installation files. Just purchase, and you'll get a license in your inbox. Then, if you choose not to buy the backup-disc, contact customer support and let them know you need the ISO to install, and there you go. You can use the license and homemade upgrade disc to install whenever you please.

I just got my DVD today too. I was able to boot from it, this is GOOD news. You don't have to upgrade within a Windows OS (although you still are able to with the DVD) to get Windows 7 installed. The DVD looks really nice! :) I took some pictures. Btw, I have the Professional 64bit edition.

While this is true, it does not necessarily mean you do not have to upgrade. If you do a clean install on a newly built computer, it will not let you activate. You can get away with reinstalling on top of the Windows 7 that won't let you activate, and even deleting the first install of Windows 7 and installing anew.

...cool! Does everyone get a 64 bit version?

Booting from it is a nice touch. Congrats on the disc though.

    +Rep for pictures.

My question is why buy the DVD if you can make it?

Wasn't there a thread floating around about how you can turn what you dl into a boot dvd.

I'm not putting anyone down, this is actually a legitimate question as I'm going to be buying this soon.

I think the main reason (for me at least) was the lack of good broadband connection to download it.

yep! i will be doing it myself (except DR screwed some stuff up with mine...) i would suggest either using a different name or a different credit card as from what DR has told me this can screw things up on DR's end. it can be reset but beleive me its such a hassle and totally not worth it... another way to be sure is to send it to a neighbour/freind/relo if possible.

would i be breaking any rules if i were to sell my serial number? maybe even make a bootable disc for the buyer?
i ended up buying a new laptop and it had windows 7 loaded, so i no longer have a need for it. the serial number has never been used

has it been confirmed whether the disks they send you are indeed just upgrade disks or not?
