Hi
Yeah they are Logitech best from them ..
But I want to look for something better I mean speakers+SW set..
Jamo or Tannoy brands
-
As a matter of fact I do.
And I'm not afraid to admit to my unhealthy addiction to technology.
-
Who says it's unhealthy?
-
unhealthy for the wallet but good for the soul. LOL
-
Yeah, but you can't take money with you; about the only thing that travels well is the soul!

I have done cameras before but never knew you could go so far as to control the lights & fans and things.
That sounds crazy expensive, and also kinda pointless
Why would you need to turn on/off a fan if your not in the room, and if you were in the room it would be easier to do it in person than run to your computer.
Just special switches to add, or did you have to actually get compatible hardware (lights/fans/ac) -
My wife
True but Shyster has it right in the quote below.
Agreed, but then again saving is needed to ensure my family is taken care of. I have the ability to buy a notebook right now but I know that I shouldnt because that would put us in the black if not red and that is not good for husband to wife relations.

Awesome computer rooms everyone. I've been lurking on this thread for a long time. This thread is the s*** right here!
My walls, and furniture have a single color, not so many. And all my walls are straight too
This is a result of my sorry attempt at putting images together in Photoshop.
Computers in sig. The extra monitor is for my EeePC. My phone is playing Contact, one of my all time favorite movies, next to my AW M17
The other side of the room has windows. -
Actually, you might want to be able to remotely turn on and off cooling fans in order to take advantage of the best time(s) of day to cool off your living quarters, whether or not you're present (no sense in letting everything get stifling hot so that when you come home at the end of the day you have to sweat for half an hour while the cooling system brings the temps down.
Your basic point is solid - in many cases a lot of setups like this are more frill and luxury - conspicuous consumption rather than real energy efficiency - but that's not always the case. That being so, we might as well give the OP the benefit of the doubt until he proves us wrong, no? -
Well, now, you've just explained in a nutshell why I'm still running on a 6 y.o. .Sony VAIO with a 1.3GHz Banias-class centrino.
-
Man, I always wanted one of those dry-erase boards at home; that's a nice, utilitarian set-up (you're clearly not married
).
-
Actually, I am married! You just gotta play your cards right.

I didnt state any doubts, just my opinion. though its been proven more than once its cheaper to maintain cooling than it is to turn it off/on.
Plus your insulation and equipment have a larger bearing on energy saving than almost anything else. You can cut the average persons energy use in half for cooling by getting those two things improved.
I used to be an electrician so I saw a lot of houses built and did all the wiring so I learned a lot about that subject.
Plus if it was just a time of day thing, they have $5 timers at wallmart
I see the only real benifit of such a crazy setup to freak out guests into thinking you have ghosts in the house as you control everything dark mansion style.
I think its neat though, thats why I asked about some of the hardware used. -
Nice looking room!
! That's cool you have a extra monitor for you EeePC!

Nice room! I love the Stealth look of the M17
-
simple. all the wall switches on the wall are used as backup.
basically all the lights are motion controlled. no more searching for lights in the dark. when i want to go to the toilet, the light just follows me.
so the script is like when Toilet sensor changed to OFF then toilet light = off
the rain sensor does the same thing. only that when rain is detected , the windows automatically close.
as for stuff like exhaust fan. eg, if study room temp=31C and studyroom motion sensor =on then exhaust fan = on
and when the aircon is on,
studyroom aircon power is greater than 50ws and studyroom motion sensor =on then exhaust fan = off
so the moment i walk into my studyroom, the fan turns on and the system waits up(WOL) and if the lighting is too dark or time = 6pm-8am then the lights turns on.
because the program is HTML based, it opens alot of other options. the interface also shows up on VMCE and extenders

Thats a slick system. I would love to have something like that, but I suppose as a college student I don't need to spend money on something like that.

Civil engineer?
I also see you have the R.C. Hibbeler Statics and Dynamics books, and the F.M. White Fluid Mechanics book. Those are some of the better textbooks I've used.
Are you using Insteon/X10 or something else?
I'm currently working on a building control system for a net-zero [electricity] house and we're just starting to put things together. Our system is going to be quite elaborate since we need to incorporate an entire thermal model into the control system with some feedback and interdependencies between each component. -
the modules to control the appliances are x10. but the motion and windows/door sensors are wireless. the reciever is a RFXCOM 310/315/433/868mhz receiver.
x10 is good and cheap for DIYers, you just need to know what to get. once fully setup, it can be more slick than clipsal/whatever systems.
the applications are homeseer and mcontrol
here's what homeseer can do.

the objective of my whole project is button free. the server also does voice command. -
Thanks for the comments all
Ah, yes. I specialized in structural engineering. Are you a colleague? Excellent. Most engineers here seem to be electrical (no surprise of course).
Man, that home control center is really something. I would like one of those. Seems fun to set it up. But first things first: I want my own theater
Keep'em coming! -
Ouch! Slam-dunk! Good for you, though!
-
@ purezerg: that setup would make the hive proud.
-
Yeah all this monitoring software is making me want a system like that bad. Nothing like being able to turn on your lights in the house to make it seem like your home. As for the married comment, its not like she controls my wallet, its just that it can be a pain to upgrade sometimes.

Here is mine. Pretty simple, but I like it.
The wallpaper is my least favorite part. Moved into a new room awhile ago, and haven't made any changes. I won't be, either, as I am off to college in a few months.
(Sorry for the glare on some of these. I forgot to close the shades, and I was too lazy to take the pictures again.

^^^ Very nice, I like simple too.

Your desk kinda reminds me of my own. As I've said in some older posts I love simplicity. I like having free space, even if it's more than I need. I have a similar desk, full of cables, various gadgets and stuff I don't use more than once a week, so I'll buy a new desk and free up the big one.
-
@ future_paramedic
Is that a UN flag in that mug on your desk? -
future_paramedic Notebook Consultant
Nope. Massachusetts flag. I kind of like the idea of a UN flag, though. Next time I see one, I think I will pick one up. -
Haha oh! I was just touring the UN in New York last month and the only thing I could afford from the gift shop was a little five dollar flag the same size as the one in your mug. (Yes five dollars!) So needless to say it's sitting in a mug on my computer desk right now! Haha now I want to post some pictures of my computer room, I think I'll do that in the morning.
-
Pretty recent, not usually this messy, but school can do that to ya
.
Will make another post when I change this for my new laptop
-
well, i'm married too. and my wife LOVES it.

Rub it in

All those cameras . . . *chuckles*
-
My thoughts exactly!
-
I hope your XPS 17** is ok after you stacked 3 other laptops ontop of it
-
Finally cleaned up some now that finals are over (means I can throw all my textbooks and loose-sheets out the window) and summer is here.
Just a simple bedroom set-up

Cool lighting. Those are some gigantic icons.

I was gonna say the same thing...HUGE ICONS

Teriyaki, what desk is that?
-
yep, i have dropped it 3 feet before, the case is strong

Abuse your laptop is a crime.

oh, that's nothing!! i beat the crap out of my machines... complete care ftw

lolz +1 for Dell Complete Care. Worth every penny.

Heck, you wanna see old and vintage, check these shots... It was upgraded with a new LCD monitor/TV recently. Still Works Perfectly though

one thing i like about it is the idea of "house moods". like if i start a movie, light gets dimmed, sound systems up, windows close down. beamer-wall comes down. home automation is not about being able to switch on and off an individual light, but about removing regular tasks like running around your house configuring everything if you want to watch a movie in a good way, or some other stuff.
i'm thinking solely for this purpose of getting an ipot touch, setting up some nice software on it to say "now eating", or "now listening music" or "now watching a movie", or "now sleeping" or "now having fun with my gf" etc, and fitting all components of the house to the specific setting.
remote access is an interesting thing, too. i'd like car automation f.e. (like in the house, saying "i'll leave soon" and the car starts cooling or heating up so it's nice to sit in there).
if you look at it from that further away, more abstracted view, home automation is a lot of fun with possible huge gains.
I'M JUST SAD AS I WANTED TO POST SUCH A SETUP IN HERE FIRST
well, i start moving in one week..

lights dim-Berry white music on =P
