I'm not sure any of the poll options apply to me. I bought a "sexy", and I'm slightly annoyed by the glowing Apple, but still like it aesthetically for the most part, but probably would like something a little "uglier" a little bit better. A non-slot loading optical drive -- a normal one -- would be welcome too. Less sexy, but quieter, and never eats disks.
I agree about the business look. Your old Toshiba looks like it's got some key travel though... I want to type on it. I don't think I'd mind having a laptop that looked like that, if the keyboard was good.
-
I think I'm perhaps the only person in my group of friends that's in love with the Vostro look. Which is why I voted "Bought an ugly, but still don't give a..."
IMO, simplicity is always better. -
-
None of the above. My notebook is nothing flashy, but I like it's looks.
-
Sexy, but it wore off... I haven't even received it yet. Hoping to get a Schticker to slap on it soon.
-
I bought my Voodoo laptop for looks, but I bought it unpainted.
My laptop is in the process of being painted and leafed right now, and it looks amazing.
Sometimes sexy does not wear off. I am in love with my laptop, and we have come along way together.
The main reason why I didnt have it painted, was I could save $1400, and I could modify the thing like crazy before getting it painted the way I want it.
It is looking awesome right now. There are 17 layers of paint, including 5 layers of clear.
Lots of paint = more awesome and durable finish.
This coming weekend, Rahul Sood, the owner of Voodoo PC will be signing the base of my laptop, before the last three coats of clear are applied.
I cant wait to get my system back.
3 months for paint = lots of anticipation.
But I know that good things take time, so I am very psyched my system is nearly done.

The great thing about HP's is their design. You dont need to modify anything. They put gloss on everything, even the keyboard lol
HP pavilions are ALL SHOW, NO GO
(until they start putting better gpu's) -
the greater part of me which thinks you are nucking futs! can't help but be aware of the smaller part of me that is anticipating pictures of your new do
as for meee i love, love, looove my Dell Vostro 1400. it's my first laptop, but that's not why i love it. it's simple and elegant, or simply elegant. it's not flashy, yet not ugly by any means. it's just a pleasure for me to look at and use. =] sometimes simple is better--besides, simplicity always stands the test of time.
cheers! -

I have an Asus S96J and its rather bland looking but I bought it for the components and graphics card inside rather than looks.
It definitely looks a lot better than the Dell E1505 that I was originally going to get. -
i just picked up a matte black dell 1520 inspiron that looks very good at least to me. but i was wondering who else thinks a laptop with the new Ironman movie paint scheme would be sexy or not.
not a picture of Ironman but painting the laptop using the colors of the suit. -
ive got an HP pavilion dv9500t that is really shiny
and, it cost less then its counterparts -
I'm really quite happy with my Dell Vostro 1500. I went from a Apple MacBook Pro to this, and I'm never looking back. The difference in build quality is amazing, and the extra features are nice to have too. It's somewhat concerning that I paid less for this computer, but got a lot more. What is Apple thinking with not putting memory card readers on their computers? It's also very annoying that Apple makes their computers so very, very hard to upgrade.
-
Received my Vostro 1400 last week and couldn't be happier. Especially because they stopped offering it on the German Dell-Website two days after my order, replacing it with the less amiable (in my opinion) 1310.
The Dell 1330 would have been the prettier and flashy (and lighter!) alternative but that simply was not in the budget. It's a compromise I can live with though. The 1400 is not exactly an eye-catcher but I like its understatement and serious business look.
A friend of mine has an old Dell Notebook which is silver with some blue parts (Inspirion or something). Whenever I see that thing, I realize I could hardly work on an ugly thing like that (just my opinion as well). -
Buy a sexy, sooo glad you did!!
-
-
I consider my Inspiron 1720 sexy, and the satiation hasn't worn off. Plus the knowledge that I got a laptop that is more powerful than most computers sold on the market. My next laptop is going to be an IBM/Lenovo or apple though because I like the mostly simple design and quality of both companies.

Vostro 1500 = Stunning

He is very robust and with optimal design!

i need a new laptop... my w3v is getting dated, what looks good nowadays!!?
-
Well, I have a Compaq A924ca which I really find sexy. It has a kind of carbon fibre look to it, and 7 months out of the box and I still find it good looking. This machine has blue LEDs which I really like, and a black keyboard which I prefer to ailver one.(easier on my eyes) LOL.
-
I know I shouldnt care about looks, but I try to have all my toys match...ie car, bike, laptop, phone, etc... I guess its a girl thing.
-
I bought a Sager NP9262 and I am happy with its professional but classy looks.
I am a girl, by the way.
-
looks are one of the biggest factors for me, just look at the laptops im considering: vaio FW, toshba qosmio g55, acer gemstone 8930
-
Well looks are important to me as well(girl again lol so I guess it is a thing for us
)
Like Saddie, I like to have things that match and look nice. I remember I bought a steel colored USB with a blue light JUST to match my old HP Pavillion notebook lol XD and my mouse is grey and black...So I was thinking just getting another HP laptop just because I alreayd haev the matching gear lol XD
Anyways, yeah looks are somewhat important to me. If I am to stare at my laptop for idk how long, I'd like to be at the very least not a pain to look at. That being said, it's a matter of opinion and likes, I don't like overly flashy stuff(no no to the x305 Quosmio), but if you give me an HP dv5 or a Toshiba A305 or a Sony Vaio FW, then I would find those quite appealing.
My preference lies between a balance of sleek/professional and also casual. I don't particularly want a business class notebook, but I don't want something too shiny and fancy either. I find generally most companies can usual pull this off pretty well though. -
I bought a sexy, sleek red XPS 1530 ~ named *Scarlett* the red..by the way (soo fitting)...I wanted something stylish..yet functional and presentable!
And, yes it's a girl thing for me...Although blue is my favorite color..I just can't seem to get enough of the *reds*! Especially the deeper, crimson, metallic reds!
But, not only did I want a sexy lappy, I wanted a lappy that would work well for me and my needs! And, the 1530 is surely doing that!My netbook is going to be the color red, also!
So, it's a blend of what your getting on the inside and the outside...plus personal preference.
I also have several electronic gadgets in red!

I was mad when I accidentally bought a pink laptop, but that's about it.
When I bought my most recent laptop I was just going for size and specs. Looks aren't really that important to me. -
I doubt that in general cases(there are exceptions, but in general), the look is the most determining factor. It may be one of importance for some people, but I doubt it will ever really trump the performance factor of a laptop.
The scenario where looks would play such a determining role would be for laptops of similar specs and similar price and size. In this case, the looks would be the main factor determining them apart. -
I can say that when I am interested in something...it's the look that get's me first! Is, it going to appeal to me? Am, I going to be happy with it?
As, when you first see something..it's the eyes that see it first!
And, making sure the spec's/config's are going to work ~ is a tremendous factor!
It's a combination of both...And again, personal preference
Cin -
Well as said, it is a factor and perhaps it is the first one to apply, but in general cases, it isn't the determining one.
Take people for example, you may be tempted to talk to someone because they look interesting, but it is whether or not they actually are interesting that will make you keep talking to them or walk away.
The first impression strikes an important cord in the marketing strategy, but a long term decision like a laptop is rarely made on the basis of first impressions.
I myself admit that a good looking machine appeals to me(at least for laptops, desktops all look like boxes to me lol) and I'll be tempted to go look at it and yes, looks can make me be willing to sacrifice some specs on a machine if I can afford to(i.e it won't hugely affect the performance of what I'd need)
-
Yes, of course, we know it's not the determining factor!
But first impression also stays on your mind, until you find something other than the first, and that's seemingly replaced!
It's also the pricing of a laptop (what your getting for your money), your personal preference on the config/specs, and what brand you want, and suggestions from your peers, that also play part!!
My best friend is looking at a lappy right now..She has never had one..and, the first thing she said when she was interested in one she saw was *ooh, pretty color*LOL, then looked at another...same reaction
..But her boyfriend has calmed her down somewhat, and has made want a blend of both *nice exterior/nice intererior*
And, yes LOL desktops! Though, today...they are doing everything they can to *pretty them up* for the appeal value!
Cin -
lmao @ millermagic
that's not too good...
Anyway, I like the look of my Compaq. Just simple and shiny black with a big silver Q on the front. I kind of wish they would've used a C, or just the full logo, though. -
A huge factor in buying a nice looking notebook is the fact that it makes me want to keep and continue to use my 2 year old laptop instead of splurging for the next best thing.
This is important because it's saving me so much money at the moment -
skullcap ftw
-
At one point, I almost choose the XPS M1730 over the Alienware M17, but the longer and longer I looked at the M17, the more I just saw how sexy it was.
So all in all, I bought a really sexy laptop and everytime, I use it at school, I feel like, shoot, this is Skullcap is awesomeness to the max. -
My Sony Vaio TT has to be the sexiest notebook I have ever bought!
Before the Vaio it was functionality and performance over looks - but my TT has that as well....*sigh*
I never knew it was possible to have amourous feelings over an inanimate objectlol
-
Yeah design for sure matters, no matter how powerful the laptop is. I wanna actually look at it from time to time and admire it
-
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
I love my M1730.
-
Well notebook looks matter a lot to me. I wanna (SEE) if my money was well spent every once in a while.
-
I think this question can't be answered for some...
I adore my Vaio .I think it looks good (businesslike - not a fashion statement) and its a great powerful little laptop.
I actually don't like fashion and completely ignore it - I mean, I actually like the design of Thinkpads
I.e. the design on the SZ was only important in the way that it doesn't look like a fashion statement. Sadly the current Vaio lineup is focused far more on design... -

I had other things that where important first: build quality, feature set. but as i knew, the 12" range will be expensive, i wanted something that looked like it was hell worth it
and now, 1.5 years later, i can still say, that hp 2710p (and in some days the 2730p) are worth it. build quality, performance, usability, _SEXINESS_.
and if the looks aren't sexy enough, the turning around the display and use the pen is. espencially for girls(everyone loves 'crayon physics' on it
)
-
Also, their build quality wasnt great on my old one. Lots of flex. -
what are some of the new laptops that look good? personally i love the Asus UL series
-
-
Thin, sleek and sexy business class styling cant be beat.

-
is a dell precision m4400 under sexy?
i think it is lol. -

My dv6 is certainly the sexiest laptop I have bought, patterned piano black and chrome... nice.
-
Alienware M9750 while back.
Still in love with it, she's my baby. -
Fusion Finish looks brilliant on my laptop. It's glossy, but it doesn't scratch easily, and the pinstripes on it look rather nice I must say.
-
My current D520 is alittle nicer. I like simple things.
