Aww it's so cute. I'd get one if I didn't need a GPU.![]()
-
heh.. all netbook's gpu is like no good x.x
maybe the n10j or whatever that was with 9300m graphics or the new gateway with x1270 -
Doesn't this netbook (1005HA) have a 6 cell battery that doesn't stick out from the back? Unless the image of the original post is of a 3 cell which I doubt since the specs said it was a 6 cell.
-
1005 has 6 cell too.
-
this netbook actually sticks "up" not out
which causing the netbook to be higher off ground level as far as I know.
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Yeah, the battery sticks up under the machine, instead of out the back. -
for netbooks, 6 cell battery will always either stick "up" or stick "out". The only batteries that won't stick up or out is 3 cell battery or built in battery.
-
Okay. Thanks. I was wondering why the 1005HA was so tall at the back. I guess it's a matter of preference between it sticking up at back or out at back. The Toshiba is very thin. I'm having so much trouble deciding which one because they both look nice in its own way and they both have long battery life.
-
1005HA is fairly heavy for a 10" imo. 1.40kg.
Toshiba weighs 1.3kg. Small difference but still.
Display on the 1005HA is not so good, I'd probably not buy it. -
If I was given 2 choices between the Toshiba NB205 and Asus 1005HA, I would choose the Toshiba over the Asus, due to Toshiba having a better keyboard and touchpad, thinner than the 1005HA, etc.
-
JR.com has the 1005HA for only 349.99.

http://www.jr.com/category/computers/notebooks-and-tablets/n/4294563397/sort-by-salePrice-0/
Edit: Nevermind, that's the slower processor. -
lol if it has the slower processor, you're better off to buy it from Best Buy for $299.99
-
the Best Buy model only comes with a 3 cell battery. fail.
-
Best Buy...how could you?
-
heh.. i didn't read the spec on best buy
their spec didn't say what kind of battery it came with xD lol
they didn't have battery inserted in the netbooks or laptops
-
Well on the plus side, it will be lighter, not stick out and still last 4.5 hours.
But yeah I'd also prefer the 6 cell. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
.....wow, might as well just scoop one up from Gentech. -
I like the ASUS keyboards better. I hate the Toshiba Keyboards.
-
Will ASUS be offering any type of upgrade to Windows 7 with the 1005HA model?
-
I think Win7 will make it's way onto netbooks when it's released... but that's still quite a few months away. Win7 RC is still free to try though so you can load it on if you wanted.
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Yes, if it comes with Vista or XP Pro. -
meh.. i prefer the 95% keyboard with the chicklet style? or whatever that style is on that toshiba nb205
the asus keyboard is like used in almost every netbook now -_- nothing special about it and it felt crap to type on it, i would prefer my old acer aspire one zg5 8.9" keyboard over the asus 92% keyboard in the 1005ha or 1008ha
-
Where can you get the 1005HA with XP pro?
At least the Win7 upgrade is only $50. I pre-ordered six of them last week, although if i pick up this netbook with regular XP I'll need to order another win7 upgrade. -
After trying the 1005HAB and the new Gateway LT3103u at BestBuy yesterday, I decided to go with the Gateway. For one I couldn't get past the touch pad on the 1005HAB, I hate it. There is just too much resistance when trying to slide you fingers across it, plus the Gateway was peppier. ANd I do like the larger keyboard on the Gateway better than the 1005HAB. When trying to type on the 1005HAB I would hit the adajcent buttons, while I did not have that problem on the Gateway. Plus the higher resolution screen on the gateway is a nice improvement over the ASUS one.
And the gateway comes with VISTA. I hate XP. -
Interesting. What kind of battery life do you get with it?
-
the 1005HAB says it will last up to 4 hours and 20 minute on Best Buy's Spec lol
the Gateway should last around 4 to 5 hours most likely. -
The 1005HA is now shipping online:
ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK Black - 10.5 Hour Battery Life: $389.99
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002DYIXMI
ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BU Blue - 10.5 Hour Battery Life: $389.99
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002DYIXMS
ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-VU1X-BK Black- 8.5 Hour Battery Life: $349.99 (no bluetooth)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002DYIXN2
If you dont need BT or the extra battery life, I think the $349.99 unit is a steal. I use BT tho. -
I haven't picked it up yet but 4 to 5 hours will be good. The 1005HAB is rated for a little over 4 hours with it's 3 cell battery. But weight wise it didn't feel like a big difference. But when compared to my 13" ASUS which is 4.4 pounds and my 14" Toshiba which is 5 pounds, the 3 lbs of the Gateway seems very light and it is still small enough to throw in a back pack, but peppy enough to use it a little like a laptop.
Plus the Gateway already comes with 2GB and it has Vista which is a big plus for me. -
Hi - New member here: I also liked the Gateway when I played with it at Best Buy yesterday, though I've never owned one of that brand. Keyboard was nice. However, earlier that day I pre-ordered the ASUS 1005HA from Amazon, though I'm slightly worried about the touchpad and keyboard size after reading these posts.
How do you guys think the 1005A compares with whatever Acer Aspire model is the latest one? I haven't actually seen one but I know they're very popular. Thanks for any input. -
I am curious if you will get that. AMD hasn't done very well with power consumption in the past.
-
Really? I thought it seemed like they did alright, especially before the Core2's came out.
-
Nah... not in my opinion. I'd like to see some real life experiences of this AMD platform...
Edit: it seems good. 5 hours is mentioned here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=393520 -
I set up a couple of Acer Aspire One AOD150s over the weekend. The keyboard felt more cramped than the asus 1000he. The keys on the acers dont extend to the edge of the device. The trackpad seemed smallish as well. I also didn't like the rocker trackpad button but the 1005ha has that too. The 1000HE has separate buttons...
I was impressed with the acers. For the money they are very nice machines. To bad they couldnt include N wireless or BT.
The acers were for a 9yo and 7yo. I think it's perfect for them as the cramped keyboard will not be a problem. These units came with the 6 cell battery and was $329 from amazon. The 6 cell bumps out the back of the device a bit. Make sure u lock the battery in place before you try to use it as a handle.
-
A note on the Windows 7 upgrade for those interested. Asus posted on their facebook fanpage this: USA and Canada will come with xp pro and will not be eligible for the win 7 upgrade. other regions will/may carry vista business and may be eligible for an upgrade. TBD

So unfair
-
If you 'get' a Vista it means you're paying for it.
Frankly with Atom N280 and GMA950 I would not want Vista or Win7. -
I've heard Win7 runs pretty well on this type of hardware... I want to install it on my Aspire One, I'm just trying to figure out a PXE install because I don't have a 4gb memory stick
-
It may run pretty well, but it does run slower than XP. Windows 7 has higher system requirements for a reason.
And with a system as slow as Atom I'm not going to slow it down by installing Windows 7. -
FYI, Windows 7 system requirements
1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
http://windows.microsoft.com/systemrequirements
I plan to install it on my 1005HA and do some performance tests. It may not be as fast as XP but web browsing, email, and word processing doesn't require speed. Being able to run win7 on my netbook means that maybe my netbook will have a slightly greater life expectancy. -
For comparison: Windows XP system requirements:
Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314865 -
Good luck running any application on XP with those specs today.
-
Yeah, system requirements don't mean a ton... I can tell you honestly that I ran a v-lited Vista HP on my Aspire One with 1.5gb ram, and it ran pretty decently. Maybe I've just become accustomed to Vista, but I felt it performed pretty on par with XP. With 2 gigs on a different netbook and Win7, I can't really see it being slower than XP. I mean.... 99% of the time, how much CPU is your OS chewing up?
-
It will run just as good as Windows 7 with a 1Ghz Celeron and 1GB. Same thing. Minimum requirements are the bare minimum. It's not what is recommend for a smooth experience.
-
I doubt it. Those xp requirements were based on the software at the time (2001?). As computers get faster, software becomes less efficient. Try running the current version of itunes with those minimum XP HW requirements.
-
Heck, I doubt service pack 3 would be usable on those original requirements.
-
Try running itunes in Vista with a 1.3Ghz Z520 and 1GB. Same thing.
PS. please edit your last post instead of posting twice in a row. -
Vista min requirements are notoriously understated while ppl are running win7 on netbooks just fine.
Are we really debating on how well win7 will run on the 1005HA compared to xp pro running on a 300 MHz Pentium One with 128 MB ram and 1.5GB of hard drive?
-
Pics of the 1000he and the 1005ha:
-
I don't know what you are debating. My point was XP is a lighter OS than Windows 7. It boots faster, runs better with 1GB and has less menu latency.
-
You also referenced XP minimum requirements that were written in 2001 for some sort of comparison.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sysreqs/pro.mspx (dated 8/2001)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314865 (your referenced article)
This comparison would seem to be invalid since xp has obviously changed in almost eight years. -
I assume you haven't used Win7 on a netbook yet? And I also found this about boot times, well compare these two websites and see which you think boots faster:
