I am not sure what you want to discuss, but I was discussing something else with other people.
The topic I was discussing was whether a netbook with Atom N280, GMA950 and 1GB is well suited for Windows 7.
In my opinion it's not. But feel free to disagree of course.
No you're right. I run XP on netbooks and Windows 7 on a desktop with Dual Core and 4GB. Even on my desktop Windows 7's menu latency bothers me.
Interesting stuff, but I'm far from convinced. The first link was run on a Intel Core 2 Duo processor 3.16GHz with 4GB of RAM
The second link shows 35 seconds to reach the welcome screen. How long it takes untill the desktop he did not show. My Samsung NC10 would load XP in 31 seconds untill the desktop. I would like to know what hard drive he's using in his 1000H.
But even if bootup performance of Windows 7 has improved (which could be true I don't know I haven't seen accurate benchmarks). XP has a much smaller footprint, in memory and on the hard drive. Meaning XP will allow many more applications running in memory before slowing down.

Well I just got Win7 installed on my Aspire One last night... it has 1.5gb of Ram, but I need a bit more time to see how it runs. I've been really enjoying it on my main laptop for the last few weeks.
As for having a smaller footprint, you are correct... but let's not forget that Win7 has the same and improved memory management that Vista had, so it's not going to allow RAM to go to waste idle, but it's going to free it up the millisecond another program needs it.
I'm not trying to preach it like the 2nd coming of Christ, but I'm a little confused by how people are still attached to XP... I say it's time we finally let XP die. It's had an 8 year run, it's time is over. -
But maybe with disabling all the visual candy and enabling windows classic interface in Win 7 I can reach the same menu latency. -
What menu latency are you describing? I'm using Win7 x64 on my P-6831FX and I don't recognize any menu latency...

Of note, the menu latency described in the report was in the first release of vista, not vista sp1 or windows 7.
I didn't see in the report any details about ram quantity, ram speed, bus speed, or hard drive speed. How much do ppl get paid doing these reports? I need to get in on that action. -
But I don't like the touchpad and XP so the chances of me getting the 1005HAB are pretty slim. But it's still not out of the running. I haven't purchased anything yet and if I could get the 1005HEB for $250, the price would trump everthing else. But right now it's still $299. -
Good informative review and the comments.

That's good to know. I'm still considering the $299 1005HAB at BestBuy with the 3 cell battery. I might just push my decision between the Asus and the Gateway to later in the Summer. Since I'm wondering what kind of deals they will have when they have the back to school sales and Tax Free weekends.

Would you be able to tell me if the touchpad software's function of web browsing "page forward/back" is corner tapping or swiping?
Thanks for your time. -
1005HA has been reviewed by Notebookjournal. Contrast is 1000:1 for 1005 vs. 150:1 for 1008HA.

Also, I'm glad the touchpad is bumpy so you can locate it in a dark room. -
Thanks for your help. -

Sorry to jump in on this, but I've tried searching.
I have an ASUS 1005HA-PU1X-BU, and I love it, but it does not appear to have the means to replace the hard drive.
I would like to replace my conventional HD with a 256GB SSD, is that possible, without opening the entire notebook? Or do I have to open up the whole thing at the bottom, and void my warranty?
Thanks. -
Here's a good post: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=71741 -
Thanks for the review.
I'm considering the top spec 1005HA over the Samsung NC10.
