Scaling has gotten a lot better with the new versions of windows actually. New versions of office and photoshop scale fine with the 3000x2000 resolution screen:

I run a lot of productivity apps and frequent video conf with GTM and WebEx. Also running a 43” 4K display. I7 is a must for me. CPU aggregate running as high as 35%. Fan kicks in whenever video conf is running, but pretty quiet. CPU has seen 3+ GHz on occasion. Overall, very pleased with performance.

Loving the 3Kx2K! No scaling issues with entire office suite or any other apps. Much better for work stuff. Can read documents better.

    Touchscreen is great too.

I have a question.. I just picked up the i7 Matebook and plugged it into the charger overnight. When I decided to open it to set it up, it was already on the moment I lifted the lid. Is that normal or don't you have to push the power button? And, it felt a little warm. Now it seems fairly slow.. Any suggestions? Thanks..

Hey Megacharge! I'm super late but...you are the only person that I've found talk about the Matebook x pro being used for music production. I've been a bit undecided as to getting this or a gaming laptop that fits my budget ($1500). Does this choke on you at all when running Ableton? Also, what plugins are you running? Lastly, have you done any video editing on the Matebook?

Thanks it sounds great, but I was mistrustful of Huawei's tech support and warranty so i got the Dell xps 13 on sale at Costco now instead.

Hey thread, this is my first time here. Just here to investigate if anyone else is having the same issue I am with my matebook x pro. When I'm streaming video like youtube or netflix to the laptop, there will be dropped frames a lot. It's almost like the video will be running at 30 or 24 fps and then will drop to a choppier framerate (maybe 15 or 18fps) and then revert back to the smooth fps frome before. I don't think its my wifi because it worked perfectly fine on my old laptop. I've also checked the nvidia drivers and everything is up to date

Maybe not. I'm having problems with the Dell and I'm going to return it to Costco and get this Huawei after all. Interesting that I haven't seen any complaints about this machine here; but there are a lot on the Dell xps 13 board, including my own.

I remember reading about how this laptop comes with W10 Signature Edition, and how this version has no bloatware. Well I’m here to testify to this fact. W10SE is as clean as I’ve ever seen. So the other day I notice this icon in my system tray, and I think, “hey, that’s a symbol I don’t recognize.” So I open it, of course. “Oh lord, it looks like W10SE has some water retention issues after all. But no! It’s just an update utility that checks hardware, downloads driver updates, and generally speaking, keeps your laptop up-to-date.

    Well done Huawei!

I believe the explanation and solution to your issue was posted earlier on this thread.

I'll post it this time, but it is basic decency to do due diligence by checking the thread before asking. Helps avoid unnecessary duplicate posts.

I had the xps 13 2-in-1 before jumping ship to the mbxp as well and I couldn't shake off the feeling that the build quality of the xps 13 was a bit shoddier than I expected: left side usb-c pd suddenly failed one day, only to work again after a bios update, some light bleeding on the bottom, and a tiny inner tear on the lcd after a few months. I miss the 360 degree hinge, but the build quality on my mbxp seems better, at least initially.

Yeah, I, too, am very impressed with how clean the Signature Edition is (good job to both Microsoft and Huawei for having this standard and complying to it).

That's the "PC Manager" you're speaking of if I'm not mistaken. There's a feature called "Battery Protection" within PC Manager that allows you to set the charging threshold behaviour of the laptop. It, IMO, is really a must for systems with embedded batteries these days (to prolong the overall battery life - Background: Charging the battery to 100% actually damages the battery more than charging it to, say 75%. #Batteryware).

This feature was first originally seen on ThinkPads (configurable to any %), then on some IdeaPads (with no configurable charge % threshold). Now Huawei has this capability as well, in three different threshold modes (still no as flexible as that of the Thinkpads, but better than IdeaPads' implementation).

I don't see anyone griping here. Can't say the same about the Dell XPS 13 - which I just returned - forum. I'm told the 512 model will be available September 4th. No military discount now because it's on sale, $1350 I think.

I've joined your ranks! While the plans to get a mobile workstation were "Plans C-F", the fact that I missed the capability offered by a quad core outweighed the constriction I feel with just 16GB in my work laptop.

So, I picked up the i7 on Amazon w/ the 3 year accidental warranty. We've had to use that at work on all the Surface Pros we've bought, and I'd rather get a check back because of a failure than be stuck with a $1500 brick if something goes wrong. (I'd have preferred Dell or Lenovo's onsite warranty, but nothing quite fit this generation).

I'll sell off the RAM and SSDs I had set aside for the P52/P72 or 7530/7730 to help offset costs...but is there any particular charger that's suggested? I'm probably just going to look at getting a USB-C dock from work if I can, but research is always a good thing.

Looks like I got the last one from whomever the seller was. Newegg has it for $1500, and a cheaper warranty, but not an accidental one...$1550 was what mine was selling for, and the 3 year Square Trade. Better than nothing.

MS store now has the i7 520 model @ $1350 with discount and the 2 year Performance Guard guarantee is on sale for $120. I just ordered it. It's supposed to arrive within a week.

I bought the i5 model from MS store last month and am really happy with the laptop.

However, yesterday I accidentally dropped the laptop and the corner to the laptop got damaged. The corner of the bezel does have a crack in it, which I applied glue to so it doesn't spread, but lucky the actual screen part is fine.

Do you guys know if I can still get the Performance Guard from the MS store since I'm in the 45 day period or will they actually inspect my laptop before giving it to me?

I purchased through MS Store (on-line)

I tried to get PG after I placed my order. They said I could only get it if upon receiving my unit I brought it in for inspection. I cancelled my order and reordered with PG ($129).

So, unfortunately, I think you’ll have to get it inspected. Of course you might call them up and try to order it post facto. Worth a shot.

Ok, I finally had the chance to stream some 4K. I realize that there has already been a lot of super technical video discussion, so please keep that in mind when reading my decidedly un-geeky report.

I did the choppy video fix referred to in this thread; the one that uses the Intel Graphics control panel. I brought up a Sony 4K video demo that I googled. I tested both my external 43" LG/4K/60Hz external display, as well as the internal display. Both pictures were "flawless" to my eyes. No jitter or chop of any kind, and stunning picture, clarity, color, etc.

I'm not sure what the technical details are behind it, but in the past (with past laptops) I have noticed some major degradation when I go to FULL SCREEN on large displays. There was no degradation here at 43".

The fan stepped up a notch when I ran on the external display, and it stepped up another notch when I used the internal, but I think this is to be expected based on comments earlier in this thread. The fan noise doesn't bother me at it's lowest (no video running) or at "mid-level" with external video running. But I have to say that at "upper-level" when watching on the internal display, the noise becomes a bit annoying. As others have mentioned, I also worry about the damage this likely causes to components over the long-haul.

Conclusion: 4K videos works well on this unit, at least for my needs.

On another subject, I have learned that USB-C/TB3 and USB-C/DP-Alt Mode are two very different things. The MBXP provides TB3, while my display offers DP-Alt Mode. Both "protocols" support full 4K video, but are incompatible with each other. Therefore I am unable to connect the MBXP directly to my LG display with USB-C. Kind of a bummer, but fully understandable. Instead I use HDMI via the MateBook Dock (dongle).

The Matebook arrived today. Wiped it after it passed my testing (no dead pixels, no obvious hardware issues), and am now running my install on it.

10 Pro, joined to my domain, and ready for some VMware work. Beautiful screen, great sound, really impressive build quality on the MateBook, but not without some minor quibbles.

    1) The AC adapter brick falls out of the outlet very easily. By it's own weight. I pinched the prongs and it's staying in, but I don't like it as a long term solution. I'm going to either buy a USB charger or a docking station for it soon. I wish it had a 3rd prong.

    2) I had a hell of a time getting it to boot off my flash drive. It wouldn't maintain Secure Boot being disabled, which worries me, but I found that the problem was my flash drive having been formatted GPT/NTFS instead of GPT/FAT32. I've not experienced any problems with about two dozen different makes/models that I've used that flash drive to (re)install 10 with.

    3) Removal of the bottom sticker is not removal of a cover. It takes the Windows and nVidia stickers off, and I'm fine with that - I already took the Intel sticker off the top. But I don't like that it takes off the serial number sticker as well, and leaves it without an external way of determining the serial number should it not power up. I just put the stickers on the box, and tossed it in my closet. I planned on keeping it anyway, but I'm not a fan.

    4) I noticed that out of the box, the touchpad acted like it didn't have the Precision stuff loaded. After I reformatted it had all the options I'd expected.

    5) BatteryBar + PC Manager (or whatever Huawei's software is called) on the battery saver option (40-70) resulted in some interesting things being shown. It shows A/C as though it's done charging, but if I check the battery, it was discharging from 100-70%. Not a problem, just something that I noticed that was not as I'd have expected.

I think I'm going to enjoy it quite a bit. It feels more like a MacBook than a ZenBook...and that's a good thing. The Zenbook I've used just felt hollow, and like it probably had thin aluminum. These feels more solid.

guys got a question , loving this laptop from all the reviews I seen, if I were living in the USA I would already order it, the problem is I live in Asia and the warranty Huawei gives only cover inside the USA , so basically that means I will zero warranty on this machine.

would it be insane to order it still? how likely it is to get a defective unit right from the start? how likely it is I am going to face issues? this bums me out.

Can you buy it via the Microsoft Store (on-line)? If so, they offer an add-on warranty called PerformanceGuard Protection Plan. Here is the link to the plan on the MS site: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/p...8vnjcq7dwh77/d5wx?activetab=pivot:overviewtab

Ii don't know if this is available to you in Asia. It was $129 when you purchase with the MBXP. It has a $49 deductible and covers accidental damage coverage too, which is pretty amazing.

For those of you who have been following the other posts on PerformanceGuard, I verified (by reading the policy that came with my MBXP) that it does include accidental damage.

    Good luck abaganov2!

I just picked up this machine from my local MS store. Got the i5/8gb/256 version. I decided to replace the SSD with a Samsung 970 Evo. SSD slides out easily. In my case it would not slide back in no matter what I did. I had to remove the heatsink and also had to re-paste. It seemed daunting since I've never re-pasted a laptop before but actually is pretty simple. The hardest part is keeping track of where all the screws go. I used MX-4. During Windows updates at initial setup my max CPU temp was only 74 degrees compared to 90s with multiple X1 Carbon 6th Gens I've tried. Tried Cinebench for just a run and my max temp was 70 degrees after 1 run but clearly there is power throttling going on.

My big issue with this laptop is the speakers. At volume louder than 40% they rattle / vibrate badly. It is resolved if I put both my hands on the palm rests and firmly press down. I'm reading the subreddit thread now, looks like this is a common issue. Another issue is occasionally the laptop doesn't rest evenly when the lid is open. Had this happen with some MacBooks as well, I'll try loosening or tightening screws on the base cover and see if that helps.

I don't know about their quality control and i don't know about their tech and warranty support, so i cancelled my order.

Does anyone know how choosing the version without the nvidia graphics card would affect the temperatures and battery life? I believe the integrated is enough.

Any reviews on the audio on this laptop? I read that it is supposed to be quite good.

I have an i5 Matebook X pro and am generally very happy with it.

However I saw this news today: https://www.businessinsider.com/sup...-2018-10?utm_source=markets&utm_medium=ingest

"Chinese spies were able to add small, undocumented chips to motherboards in data servers bought by big US tech companies, according to a blockbuster investigation by Bloomberg"

I know those were data servers and not laptops but that got me thinking, is there any way of knowing if there is any kind of spyware on these laptops (either hardware or software)?

Not so dumb. Much easier on the Mac where you can hold the Option key and press a letter to get the most common alternative characters. Your question is more about the OS then the specific laptop. I Windows 10 (and most Windows versions) you'll need to access the Symbols table from which ever application you are working/typing in. It looks like this:

    upload_2018-10-6_12-8-31.png

Alternatively, you can pull up similar app directly in Windows called the "Character Map." Just type "symbols" or "character map" into the Cortana search box.

From either of these apps/tools you can select any of the available characters for a given font. You can also take note of the "Character Code" which is a 4 digit hexadecimal number that can be used to enter any given symbol directly by simply holding the <left> ALT key and entering the code, e.g. <left> ALT 00A0, as illustrated in the graphic above.

    I hope that helps. :)

A bit of a favor to ask everyone: while your matebook x pro is sitting on a hard horizontal surface (preferably the kitchen counter) with the lid open all the way, could you please check if the front legs are firmly touching the surface by gently tapping each side?

Mine gets wobbly on the right side and I can't figure out if this is because the center of the mass shifts and one of the legs slightly lifts up when the lid is open all the way, or if the hinge actually deforms the bottom lid... I've never seen a laptop do this, to be honest. It's brand new and I can still return it, just want to see if this is something others are experiencing. Seeing as this is my second attempt at this laptop, just trying to see if I should move on with another brand. Thank you!

Huawei's quality control is non-existent. Just look at the Android Central Forums under any Huawei sub-forum and you will see the horrific issues they have with their phones.

Never touching anything from that company with a 6 foot pole. This is coming from a previous Nexus 6P which was made by Huawei, horrible phone and horrible customer service.

Thanks, glad you don't have this issue!
I asked on Amazon and others have this problem precisely as I described -- it does appear that the hinge deforms the bottom lid. Given my communication with Huawei's glorious tech support, I think I will likely stay away.

Just ordered Lenovo's Yoga 920 with pretty much the same specs (no second graphics card, which I do not need anyway) for $60 more, let's see what happens.

First, let me say many thanks for all in this thread for a lot of informations, hints and optimization steps :)

Thinking about buying a Matebook X Pro next month before christmas, i´m a bit unsure about the i5 or i7 machine, in germany the mx150 is included in all variants. The main thing is doing work, get informations in www, email, youtube, spotify. But doing video stuff and gaming are also things i would try in future - and are currenty impossible von my 5 year old vaio svs13 device :) So what should i get? mainly, i5/8gb/256gb ssd should be fine but for video stuff and gaming, the i7 version could be better, right?

Hey guys, i have brand new Matebook X pro (one week). Yesterday I've checked my battery wear level with HWiNFO and it suddendly shows 19.6 % wear level which is alarming for since its brand new laptop. Battery Cycle is 4. I'm always trying never to discharge MBX below 40%. Do you think i have faulty battery ?

I have their Matebook 2 and it was a solid Surface type laptop. Surprised they are having quality issues in their new lineups.

Is the i5/8gb/256gb/iGPU version identical to the i7/16gb/512gb/dGPU version with exception to those stats? I'm mostly interested in whether it still has the same screen and cooling.

I'm thinking about replacing an X1 Carbon 6th gen with it.

So does anyone have any experience with the Matebook D? I am looking for a smaller laptop for my sister's graduation and it looks fantastic in terms of what you get for the $550 price right now; aluminum chassis, supposedly great battery life, and a 14" screen in a 13" frame just to name a few. I just got a Ryzen notebook myself and I love the overall performance but I have heard many implementations have severely throttled the APUs. She doesn't need anything crazy powerful but she said she would like to have the option to at least try to play a game here and there, mostly Overwatch.

I was also curious as to how the overall build quality compares to the Matebook X, which I have heard is fantastic.
