Which 9600M GT driver did you use? If you're using bios 302, you should be able to use the one from the nVidia website.
You can get BIOS 1.20 here. I think you will need to flash in Windows 32-bit.
-
-
ok. im downloading the bios now.
what do you mean by "flash in Windows 32-bit." i dont get it that part.. -
What version of Windows are you running? Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit?
-
windows 7 64-bit. im kinda new on this problem. forgive me if im little slow
-
No worries. Anyway, I haven't tried flashing/installing the BIOS on Windows 64-bit, but I don't think it will work. Of course, it doesn't hurt to try.
-
i already instal the bios. after reboot, it dont installing. its back to windows and says installation failure. so what now? am i do something not right ?
-
Use your BenQ Recovery DVD and re-install Windows that came with the laptop. Flash the BIOS and then re-install Windows 7.
If you don't care about battery life you can still stay on BIOS 302. -
i lost my benQ dvd. already own this laptop for 2 years. actually 2 years ago i check this forum and u still dont know how to fix hybird vga on vista on that time. so i use xp. and now i just check this forum again. and u already know the way. so, no hope for my s42?
-
Long shot: Download Windows Vista 32-bit or Windows 7 32-bit, install that and try change the BIOS.
-
yea im thinking that way too. i got vista 32-bit from my friend. so after i install vista 32-bit -> install bios 1.20 -> instal windows 7 64-bit again ?
-
By the way, why do you want switching back? Are you using the laptop on battery a lot? -
kind of.
and my s42 got another problem. when i play game suddenly my laptop crash and turn off. you know something about this ? -
Check CPU and GPU temperature using HWMonitor. It will turn the computer off automatically at 100C.
-
so it turn off automatically due overheating? any solution to make it cooler? i already try cooling fan and its not working. my left palm still hot when i playing game.
-
Is it overheating? For me, CPU max is 70C and GPU max is about 97C.
For me, left palm rest is also quite hot. -
i use everest lavalyst for temp check. display adapter temp can reach 110C but the laptop still on, when reach 120 it's already turn off. i dont know about the CPU temp. not checking it. because i think the problem is in my vga.
-
You really don't want the temperature to go over 100C. It will damage your PC.
-
im aware about that. so the answer for overheating problem is stop playing game huh
-
You can try to use compressed air in (or blow hard into) the back vent if there is dust.
If you're desperate, you can try BIOS 1.15 which I've heard uses the fan more. (not tested on Windows 7) -
yup..dust always cause the problem in benq s42..u need to clean it at least once a week to avoid ur laptop suddenly turn off because of overheat..plus, rite now i'm using one fan that point at my left palm and a zalman cooler..even it cost me a lot of money but the problem appear no more..
@namaiki i think we should change our laptop..it seems outdated..huhu..if u buy a new one, tell me and i will also get a new one ^_^ -
I was considering getting a Dell XPS 15 (L502X) with the awesome 1080p screen, but then I thought of my empty pockets. D:
The XPS 15 is probably a bit larger than the Joybook S42.
I was also looking at the latest Acer TimelineX series, but it's not out yet. http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/553306-acer-timelinex-3830-4830-5830-t-g.html
Other contenders: NP5160 (Clevo W150HN)
But at the moment, I don't think I will buy anything. I really want my next notebook to have a 1920xXXXX screen. -
have anymore 32bits driver?
i now still using 191.x -
-
And one more question, which one is the correct sequence to install the driver? Is it Install driver 258.96, run dseo13b, reboot, sign both sys files, reboot; or Install driver 258.96, run dseo13b, sign both sys files, then reboot ?
Pls Namaiki or anybody, I need some help here.
Thanks btw, -
If I recall correctly, the files to sign are called:
c:\Windows\System32\drivers\igdkmd64.sys
c:\Windows\System32\drivers\nvlddmkm.sys -
Thanks a lot for your quick reply, Namaiki.
It's seems like I make serious mistakes though. I keep getting this error in the middle of installing 258.96 "NVidia Setup Error. Failed to install one of the core component which may affect driver functionality. The most recent driver that worked will now be restored". I think it's because I already install / uninstall the driver a couple of time before (though I have already run Driver Sweeper each time I failed). Maybe I had to re-format and installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 64bit and start installing 258.96 from beginning
Btw, is it important to install driver for Intel motherboard chipset (from BenQ site, version 9.1.0.1014) before installing vga driver?
Thanks once more, Namaiki -
If you want, you can try the following which don't need signing:
197.12
http://forum.notebookreview.com/6608180-post55.html
263.08 (don't use if you want to use multiple monitors)
http://forum.notebookreview.com/7263774-post66.html
I don't think you need to install the motherboard driver for Windows 7, but it doesn't hurt. -
VGA driver from Dell ?
Downloading 263.08 for now.
Thanks -
Yup, don't forget the modified inf file.
-
Yeah, it's working!!!!
The 263.08 driver is really working, though it's still need the reg fix "still_need.reg" to completely switch from performance mode to save mode and vice versa (without it I can only switch from performance mode to save mode, but when I want to switch back to performance mode, it's not working and only stuck with the window that show save power -> increase performance).
Thank you so much Namaiki, I really appreciate your help a lot -
Oops, thanks. I've edited my old posts.
-
I'm not sure if you might have better luck asking/checking in here: Our discoveries on Vaio Z’s Hybrid Graphics

hi, i tired of waiting for updated driver for my s42
can i update my driver (currently using hybrid driver from nautilus) to those from nvidia one like 285.62 from nvidia web site
for me my battery already dead, intel gpu is no help to me
i just wish to play battlefield 3, and the current driver is letting me down
please help i really hope to update my driver to the latest nvidia one
thanks
btw i m on vista 32 bit -
Flash the BIOS for Windows XP and ideally you should be able to use the drivers from the nVIDIA website and get rid of the Intel GPU.
BenQ Thailand | ?????????? - Downloads -
flash the BIOS for xp, install windows xp, and use the official NVIDIA drivers would really improve performance? how much?
if it is significant, i'll do it, just wanna know if it is worth the trouble.
i'm currently playing red faction armageddon, and the FPS is really crappy...
i already overclock the GPU core to 650, GPU memory to 950, shader clock to 1400; and the 3dmark06 score went from 5800+ to 6700+.
anyway, i don't think S42 can handle BF3, no matter what.
BTW, I read from other sites, that someone overclocked the Shader clock to 1700 and got a 3dmark06 score more than 7100+. but whenever i try to overclock the shader clock to more than 1400, my system would crash to black screen during 3dmark06 test run, why is that? -
Some newer Forceware drivers say that they improve performance in some games, like when they write:
"For Battlefield 3 weve improved performance by up to 11% since the release of the GeForce 285.38 beta drivers, have included several compatibility enhancements, a new and improved SLI profile, and a 3D Vision profile."
If you don't use the laptop on battery, you can try the XP BIOS. I haven't tried myself as it will half battery life. (~10W for Intel vs ~20W idle for the 9600M GT)
The graphics cooling in my BenQ used to go up to 97C and I didn't even overclock. -
what version of driver are you using, do you have the NVIDIA desktop context menu issue?
the 256m VRAM maybe the issue, but i set everything to low, except scene detail in red faction armageddon, no any improvement to FPS.
seting scene detail to low helps, but the graphic just deteriorated too much to be acceptable. -
-
namaiki : i using notebook s42 with 9600m gt. but how to update this driver? i alredy download the driver from nvidia website, but when i want to install, the message will show " this driver not compatible". please give me full tutorial to solve my problem.
-
You need to change to the XP BIOS which disables graphics switching: http://forum.notebookreview.com/8065011-post135.html
or use one of these: http://forum.notebookreview.com/7907818-post127.html -
-
Newer versions of Windows should be fine as well.
-
i still dont understand. if i change to the xp bios, that mean, i need to change window 7 to window XP?
-
No, it's just for disabling the Intel graphics card.
-
hwo to change the xp bios? i already download "! Downgrade Notice for Windows...xp" at benq website. but its only PDF file. when i read, it said "Install Microsoft Windows XP Operating System."
argh!! please give step by step. me so stupid about notebook -
Hmm, seems I'll need to search up a link to the XP BIOS...
In the meantime, you can try that 263.08 driver if you want. -
263.08 driver can play good performance battlefield 3?
-
Sorry, I don't know. I'm no gamer.
