I don't think S42 can handle BF3 even with the newest driver.
performance is limited by hardware, upgrading driver can only improve it so much
however, you can try overclock your GPU, for me it really boosted performance (3DMARK06 score 6700+ now). it is winter now, so the temperature is low, even overlocked, my GPU wouldn't overheat.

Could help me copy this driver file [ ]MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service to another net-disk and post the download address here?
megaupload is blocked by damn government here in china.
thanks very very much. i really wanna try it out. -
Name a host that you can access, e.g. MediaFire and I will upload it there.

it didn't work at all!
first, S42 is not supported by this [ Sony Vaio Z Hybrid Graphics Drivers ] at all!
then, i modified the [.INF] file to force an installation.
the installation was successful, but after reboot, it just blackscreened, no way to enter system! -
This may be overly optimistic but here goes:
Has anyone managed to install nvidia drivers on Windows 8 consumer preview? I tried some of the steps outlined in namaiki's last several posts but nothing has worked (Version 197.12 linked here seemed to install, but after rebooting the system was unchanged, and the second driver link just didn't install at all).
Cheers,
Mixt -
Maybe you can try these steps: http://forum.notebookreview.com/8356003-post3399.html

You little beauty, it worked! The 9600m GT is visible and I can switch between it and the Intel card (although occasionally it isn't able to get back into high performance mode if I switch out of it - not a deal breaker though).
To clarify in case someone else ends up here after a google search (with full credit to namaiki above):
Installing hybrid graphics drivers with Windows 8 Consumer Preview on the Benq S42:
1. Download the drivers linked here, replace the .inf file as directed.
2. Follow the steps here to disable driver signature enforcement so you first uninstall the Intel drivers, and than (after rebooting back into safe mode with driver signature enforcement disabled) install the Nvidia drivers from step 1 (run Setup.exe from here: C:\dell\drivers\R273113)
3. After rebooting again run the registry file linked in step 1.
4. Reboot, and enjoy your Windows 8 installation with hybrid graphics -
does anyone know how to overclock BenQ S42?
i want to overclock both cpu and gpu.. -
I never tried overclocking because my temps were always high. No idea about CPU, but GPU can probably be overclocked with MSI Afterburner.
-
i had it before and tried overclocking and things just got worst after that

Anyway, I've been having my S42 with me for the last four years, and just a few days ago I've bought a Dell 23" monitor and plugged the HDMI with it, it's running on the 1920x1080 resolution now. Gaming and stuff works fine with the laptop but I'm a little concerned, my GPU is always being really hot these days, roughly 60C to 70C on normal usage and exceeding 100C when playing Dota 2. I'm wondering if this is due to the heat sink's thermal paste being almost gone? Since I'm using the HDMI cable, my S42 will no longer be using the Intel graphics (it auto switches to NVIDIA, actually) so I'm wondering if i should move on from Nautis's 191 hybrid drivers to a proper updated NVIDIA driver and just eliminate the usage of the intel graphics totally, will that be wise? Really hope you can get back to me on this.. drat.. how do I send PM's to you?Getting really worried of my laptop.

I had similar temps with my BenQ S42 with the NVIDIA GPU, about 70C when idle up to about 97C when loaded. The GPU probably uses a thermal pad. I can't remember since it's been a while... You can try open up your laptop, but it is possible that I killed my NVIDIA GPU in this way. You can also try blowing compressed air into the air vent at the back, but be careful as the fan is a bit sensitive.
If you wanted to only use the NVIDIA GPU, there is a "Windows XP" BIOS that you might be able to try use but I haven't tried it myself. The NVIDIA GPU in my S42 is dead (Intel GPU still works) and actually I have a Samsung Chronos 7 NP700Z7C now.
Also, you can try these drivers: http://forum.notebookreview.com/benq/281228-benq-s42-13.html#post7907818 -
Hmm.. so the main reason that killed off your GPU was by opening it up? This kind of scares me.. Oh good that you've a newer laptop now, I guess most of the S42 users have moved on to more modern ones already. Haha. Thanks, will test them out when I come back from work. Will get back to you on this, bye for now and take care!

Has anyone else had this problem, and does anyone know of a way to get around the problem? I'm using the same old driver from the post linked above ( ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/video/nVidia_Geforce-GT335M_A01_R273113.exe), would a newer driver help? I'd try it but I'm not sure if the modified .inf file and the .reg file would still work.
Thanks. -
Anyway, has anyone else tried windows 8.1 on the s42 ane had problems with the graphics driver? On every 2-3 reboots windows would uninstall the nvidia driver leaving me with the crappy windows driver. I also never got the 9600m GT to work either.
Any help would be much appreciated! -
I looks like this thread is dead unfortunately, but for what it's worth the replacement s42 fan on alibaba fitted and works fine. -
http://forum.notebookreview.com/benq/281228-benq-s42-13.html#post7907818 <- These graphics drivers might be a bit better.
