    Would OC'ing the ram really help? People have told me there is no difference between DDR2 and DDR3 on a laptop.

    1333 RAM would allow me to OC a bit higher if I were FSB pumping.. and SSD may provide a bit better HD access time, but when running 3dmark I've never seen the HDDs be accessed. I think it loads it all, then rolls.. there's loading intervals, but no HDD access during benches. LOL @ Moo's sig. You're funny ma'an :)

    there is very little advantage to ddr3 over ddr2 so far on notebooks this has been shown all over in reviews and tests. but the safe bet is 1333 for sure if you are overclocking

    I remember NBR did a HP 8530w (770M Quadro) review with one set of benchmarks with a normal 250GB HDD and another with a high speed Intel X-25M. PCMark05 got like a 4000 point increase and 3DMark06 800-1000 points with the SSD.

    yeah a GOOD ssd makes a huge difference. as long as its not one of the crap first gen units. the intel ones are pretty awesome

    i would definitely ..get a cheap 16-32 gig one just to bench off of .... would be nice ... or get a intel and put it in with your 4870's i KNOW your getting and get a new record

    hehe yeah i'm looking forward to E's scores with the HD4870X2... oh yeah, some asian company has 1Tb 2.5" SSDs... they say the read/write speeds approach the maximum data throughput for SATA I, which is 1.5Gb/s :O

    In the near future, I plan to upgrade to DDR3 1333 when the latencies get lower (though Kingston currently has CL5 DDR3 SODIMMs, but at 1066mhz). Along with that, 2 256gb SSDs (maybe G.skill since that's cheap, or whatever comes out with the best bang for buck). If I can get enough money out of selling the 3870s, then maybe dual 4870s too. All this with a QX9300 should be serious business.

    I look forward to the 4870s.. by then I'm gonna hopefully be working again - I haven't truly worked since September of last year.. lol - Honestly, I haven't tried. But, I blame part of it on my NBR addiction :p Anyhow, by then I should have plenty of extra loot to pick 'em up :)

    E-wrecked, resident OCZ Whitebook guru and considered by some to be an overclocking god - a belief not too far off if you consider the multiple world records his heavily overclocked Whitebook has set in standard benchmarks.

    on a side note, +rep for E-wrecked and his new world record score. keep it coming, you know how marvin gaye said it: "...ain't no clock speed high enough, ain't no latency low enough..." :D

    E, I'm preparing to get 2 64GB intel X-25E's (same read as the X-25M but like double the write) RAID em together in my future Lamborghini VX5. That or an Archos 7 and some killer headphones :D

    not so.. he's running the same resolution. And john deserves some praise, cause if it weren't for him I prolly wouldn't have scored that high. He sat on the phone with me til almost 4AM a few nights ago showing me some of his bench methods. He's quite a smart guy :) Now, if only I could hit 17k. :p
