Correct. No skin on the bottom. And it’s sadly kinda off putting a bit as I feel the entire machine should have the same look all around. But, that’s only a nitpick since I haven’t found anything really bad about the machine where it counts. Performance, cooling, sound, screen are all great. They did a solid job making this a competitive machine in the market for the cost.
20K is very impressive. I am happy to see my 2080 edges it out a bit since it costs more. I’m happy with that. And yes mine is eluktroboasted.![]()

Here are some pics of the inside of the machine. Pretty simple to take apart. There are some aluminum stickers or tape on the heat sink around the gpu. Be careful when peeling them back. I will be opening this up again as my cpu is running hotter as I was trying out the thermal grizzly carbonaut carbon pad. And it is not doing well at all. So I’ll be putting thermal grease on instead.
-
Those aluminum sticker are a pain to remove correctly,
I change for thermal grizzly kryonaut for 0 improvement, I think it was already a very good thermal paste
Did you notice oscillating noise of the fan, loose noise on touchpad and huge backlight bleed on bottom corner ? (Sry if I already ask I don't remember)Last edited by a moderator: May 30, 2020 -
Q-Key now functions exactly like I wanted!
Here’s how this works...
The “Q-Key” is essentially the button to the left of the power button. This now has a multi-purpose.
1) You can have it cycle through the profiles, Office, Game and Beast modes. Should you wish to do this, you can have Game and Beast profiles have maximum fans immediately or let the fan curve handle it. This has been the only option and it’s rather good but there’s more!
2) The button will act as a maximum fan button only and the user will have to select their performance profile within the Control Center software.
The latter is really awesome. Should the user wish to just leave the system on a particular profile as their preference, they can just max the fans at the press of a button. Where this really shines is when you’re in Office mode. Having the CPU at 35w (or 25w) and the GPU at its stock Nvidia spec COMBINED with maximum fans offers some serious thermal performance.
The 2070 Super runs in the upper 60’s and the 10875h at 35w runs in the mid to upper 70’s. This is after several Conquest games on BF5.
Who said these parts run hot??? Well, yeah they do but having the system dialed makes for a compelling option.
Thank you Eluktronics for allowing me the opportunity to make this one of the best gaming laptops at .78” thin. -
Great news ! The review is on it's way ?
I will have many questions about Eluktroboost, BIOS etc and I wait the review to see before asking -
What questions do you have? -
I have a Vyper 17 from PCspecialist with 2070 Super, I think I haven't Eluktroboost (seems logic)
so I want to know what's really this techno, how do this perform ? How many watt is gained ? hardware modification ? A GPU Bios flash ? Can it be disabled and enabled with software ?
The point of that is I want to make my laptop "Eluktroboosted"
Secondly I haven't the same BIOS as Max 17 curiously, because I haven't the same settings like memory tweaking, so I want to update it with an Eluktronics one, it's possible ? When we should be able to get a BIOS ?
Control Center seems to use a XTU Api to set up the CPU, can we make custom mode ? Like an office / eco mode on battery (don't understand why eco is only for sector plug)
And what are the new setting for each mod ?
Finally, you seems to use this laptop, daily perhaps, so can you send your settings ?
For gaming, for battery, for maximum perf ? GPU CPU Memory BIOS Windows etc ?
I know it's a lot, so no problem at all if you can't answer for all
Thanks in advance -
Hmm that is exactly my findings too. Kinda surprised. It ran fine out of the box, so I'll be changing cpu to normal thermalpaste. I may use my Noctua Thermal compound. Atleast the motherboard isn't flipped so atleast I have that going for me.
Only when I first turned my laptop on. It was like the gpu fan was pulsating. But, ever since then I have not noticed it again. And the trackpad seems to be good on my unit. I use gestures alot and when I do a two finger tap the track pad lightly clicks. Nothing that bothers me however. And the backlight bleed is very minimal on my machine. There is a spot in the lower left that has some light bleed, but I can't see it unless the screen is completely black. Other than that there is some IPS glow. But, that's just the nature of the screen. Overall, I'd say this is the best screen I've had on a laptop for years.
I need to do more testing as all I have is witcher 3 installed. And this game is notorious for running cpu's hot. Mine spikes up to 90 in this title in playing in beast mode and without fan boost. Gpu seems to run in the low 70's. But again this is worst case kind of game. I'll load up a few more titles since I got the ssd swapped out today and see if the same thing happens. But I think this is because I'm using the Carbon pad from thermal grizzly. Think it's not cut out for an octocore cpu.
Did they tweak any more with the cpu undervolting? Or are we still limited to -70?
Pretty solid machine honestly. Just alot of uneven lighting on the keyboard. And if that's the worst I can complain about then that's a winner in my book.
Can't wait for your final review as I'm hoping you have some tweaks for us to play with? -
You are really lucky,
Yes 90 is hot, I don't think carbon pads are good, metal pad are way greater, you have a protective sticker around the gpu so no problem to use conductive materials, liquid metal should be good on CPU with the nickel plate but on GPU with this poor copper I don't think it's a good idea, maybe polish it to mirror before before. -
-
The EC and BIOS update controls most of what I’ve been working on with Eluktronics including but limited to the power limits. XTU is baked in most software these days. Undervolting can be done in the BIOS up to a maximum of -.080.
Memory tweaking is on the consumer. I likely won’t have enough time to dive into this.
You forum buffs will eventually have your hands in these and find all sorts of cool and fun things you can do with this long after my review unit is gone. My time is limited. -
Fair enough. lol -
The end goal for me from me was to get laptops to have their features and functions dialed in with minimal tweaking.
I was very motivated to help after using the AW 51m. That was and is a total train wreck. A work of art like that shouldn’t need anything! Meanwhile the ugly Clevo p775 just works and can be modified for some serious abuse on top of that lolTerreos likes this. -
And you would think that Dell would have such an expensive product like the Alienware 51m perfect. So sad that it wasn’t. -
-
Is the Evoo LP5 the same build as the MAX 15?
-
Hello all . I’m thinking of selling my alienware 51m and getting at max 15 or 17 and recommendation on which to get . I want 2080 super for sure .

While I’m sure the 51m can do this better, at least it better, the MAX 17 won’t be far behind.
Do you have the means to measure this? If so, what are your results that you enjoy with your 51m? -
MUX switch has been the best solution we learned from your Bob, thanks a million. I am using this laptop https://www.monsternotebook.com.tr/tulpar/monster-tulpar-t7-v21-3-1/ and it is nearly the same as your configuration and based on thonfang brand.
But our bios is so simple. not as detailed as yours. Using Eluktronics Max-17 updated Gaming Center helped us tame the beast a bit, it controls the device perfectly. Thanks for everything you've done so far for these laptops. We love you!
P.S.: We would like to host you in our Discord channel filled with Turkish laptop users. They all follow you. Please PM me if you have a spare time for us <3B0B likes this. -
I run on quiet profile I do get a few less frames but is very quiet .

Hello I just got my max 17 and having an issue it think maybe you can help before is send it back . I’m thermal throttling at 81c any reason for this ? -
When it said mine was thermal throttling my clocks were still running at 4.8-4.9 GHz -

Run 2 beastmode max fan
Graphic score is 20,660
Run 3 beastmode max fan
Graphic score is 20,565
These were ran back to back. Temps in the mid 70’s to mid 80’s.

Any Max-17 owners with a 10875H and 2070 Super Maq P? Just ordered mine and curious how you’re enjoying yours....
Also, very curious how the 240hz screen is?

I went with all the options so it’s ready to go once I receive it. Only adding an NVME and that’s it.

Wonder if other manufacturers will follow Eluktronics and start offering the new Cooler Master Mastergel Maker as a repaste option.
I recently got a tube of the new kryonaut and its much more viscous than an old tube i had. New one is the one with the flat head design and the old one was the one in a regular syringe. Surprisingly it performed much better than kryonaut, 65C vs 69C on the gpu side (CPU was LMed) on my Zephyrus G , the old one was 1-2 C worse than kryonaut.
And given how more viscous pastes have longer lifespans in laptops i think its a great option for laptops.Last edited: Jun 25, 2020Cisco78 likes this. -
It’s the first time I’ve seen that gel mentioned, is it good?

The new version is significantly more viscous and performs quite a bit better than kryonaut while being almost half the price. Pretty outstanding.
I haven't used it long enough so I can't comment on its longevity yet but more viscous pastes are supposed to last longer.Cisco78 likes this. -

is anyone having this issue of lower cpu clock speeds when battery falls down to less than 10-30% with the max 17? i disabled power throttling and switch my power mode to best performance. Also changed stuff in the power options. I did throttle stop and put 0 on the speed shift. Nothing worked so far when on battery and cpu throttles when around that percentage battery. Any suggestions?

BrightSmith Notebook Evangelist
You have to put at least 1 in speedshift

Any one else have a Max 17 and has run Time Spy on it? Curious the scores folks are getting as my GPU feels a bit low.
I just got the 10875H w/ 2070 Super Maq-P. It’s amazing but just want to make sure everything is working as intended.
