I’m getting about 8203 in Time Spy and 18437 in Fire Strike. All drivers and Bios up to date.. just wonder if I’m missing something.

Yeah I see it now, thanks. Rig is running super stable so I’m good with it. The frame rates were very consistent in the games I play.

Someone with Eluktronics Max 17 (or Max 15) can contact me ? i'm searching for a BIOS, if you can contact Eluktronics to ask their a BIOS or if you can backup yours it would be very very nice (it's safe and i can explain how, very simple), other manufacturer provide bios with less option and not update as much as yours.

How good is eluktronics with their LM application? Do they take any proprietary methods to ensure that LM lasts for a long time?

Ran firestrike on Max-15 w/ rtx 2070 super max-P, is 18,556 a good enough score for this card? I feel like it should be performing a bit better. Let me know if there is any tweaks I should be making.

Hello! im almost buying a PCS Vyper 17 here in Germany (same as Max-17) with i7-10875H, RTX2070 Super, 32GB Ram, 1TB SSD for 1850€, but I asked the support which display does it use, and apparently its a NV173FHM-N44. It seems to be a decent IPS display (300cd/m2, 1/1200, EDelta 2.5-4.0, 92% sRGB, 60% AdobeRGB), but it does use PWM at 940-990Hz.

    https://www.panelook.com/NV173FHM-N44_BOE_17.3_LCM_overview_36366.html
    https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/screen-part-number/NV173FHM-N44/

Im an architect and casual gamer, so I do use the laptop frequently for long periods, and while color accuracy is important, I dont want to pay premium +400€ for the MSI GS75 with 100% sRGB / 68% AdobeRGB or even more for the Aero 17 HDR with Max-Q GPU and 100% sRGB / 88% AdobeRGB but 4K (with better color reproduction but lower response time / 60hz), or go down to 15,6" for the MSI GS66. On the other side, I actually use a 6 years old MSI GS60 2PC with a quite good display...and I wont like to buy a new laptop with a worse display.

So is PWM at those frequencies noticeable? would you recommend me this laptop?

These are some reviews of laptops with the same screen:

i have pcs one with that screen... no problem at all, is a great screen, no flickering noticeable from pws (is an high frequencie that you can't really notice except some rare person). I am coming from a rog with no pwm and similer srgb coverage and luminosity, and the two screens are pretty much the same... maybe rog was a bit too contrasty compared to this but in terms of colors are very similar as they srgb gamut. So the only way to have a better display will be some 4k 90% rgb panels, or oled ones but both are much costier and not worst for me... you can invest the same price to buy an external and much better monitor to use at home...

Does the Max-17 eluktroboost actually do anything at all? Supposedly the GPU is supposed to get an additional 35W in beast mode, but there are several posts where the benchmarks do not support this at all. Here's B.O.B.'s post that shows the extra 35W power draw.

I've found several posts of people posting their benchmarks and more often than not they are lower than the category average for the RTX 2070 Max-P and the RTX 2070 Super Max-P.

For the RTX 2070 the users were getting Time Spy graphics scores in the range ~7500-7600, which is only average for the category.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/comments/epayuo/first_impression_eluktronics_max17/

    https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLapt...retty_happy_with_these_results_what_you_guys/ read comment thread by u/ Musical_Mufasa

For the RTX 2070 Super Max-P the users were getting Time Spy graphics ~8100-8200 and for Fire Strike graphics they were getting ~20,000. These benchmarks were run with turbo on.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLapt...uktronics_max_17_2070_super_maxp_compared_to/

    https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLapt...uktronics_max17_covert_gamer_benchmarks_2070/

Meanwhile from Notebookcheck the category average/media values were ~8300 and ~22,000 respectively.

You can check category averages for the given specs here.

    https://www.3dmark.com/search#advan...ck=&maxGpuMemClock=&minCpuClock=&maxCpuClock=

So not only does it seem eluktroboost isn't providing an additional +35W to the GPU, but it seems these laptops are performing at best average for the category for the RTX 2070 Max-P and and worse than all comparable models using the RTX 2070 Super Max-P.

It would be good to have some discussion on this because it seems a bit misleading to advertise extra power on these laptops when users are not getting the extra performance boost.

Can people who own the Max-17 run some benchmarks so that we can gather a bit more data. Run Time Spy and Fire Strike in discrete GPU mode, beast mode, and max fans. Make sure there are no background apps running when running these benchmarks. Then post your results here.

I have a Max-17 with the 2080 Max-Q arriving tomorrow afternoon (with eluktroboost and liquid metal). Will run some tests on it that night. Not sure if i will keep it. My alienware m15 OLED while weaker is oh so hard to part with...

I would have held on to the blade pro a little longer if I were you and waited for the 30 series of laptops to launch. It would really be a shame if a laptop that is 50% faster with a 120hz oled display drops just in just half a year.

Using Eluktroboost and then only a mild overclock on the GPU I can get Firestrike total score over 20k (but just barely). While I am happy with the CPU thermals I'm not pleased that the 2080 Max-Q can only be overclocked about 110 on the core and less than 250 on the memory. Compared to another owner here in the forums who had a massive overclock I feel a little ripped off. Not sure Eluktroboost is actually doing anything for my GPU at all.

actually my Alienware M15 R1 gets a better graphics score with its 2080 MaxQ (non-super, and can overclock better). Its the CPU that is showing its age.

I have ordered another max 17 (PCS Vyper) as i though some of the issues i had with an early model might be ironed out in later batches. Touchpas rattling is indeed gone but the control center is still crap, especially the fan profiles are unbearable. The fans ramp up stupidly as soon as 65°c are reached which is absolutely unnecessary. Is that a specialty of the PCS configuration or is that a Tongfang issue? Is it somehow possible to edit the profiles? I wouldnt mind to run at > 75 degrees for less noise.

    Many thanks for your help!

Hi @Jdoe84 I would recommend you to ask directly in the pcspecialist forum as it seems to be more BIOS-related!
    https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/forums/laptops-notebook-pcs.12/ https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/forums/laptops-notebook-pcs.12/

One question: have you tried to use your laptop with the battery? did everything worked well? check these topics for more info:

    https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/threads/vyper-17-slow-on-battery.71611/

I just ordered the same laptop, so I hope it works well! :) good luck!

    Hi all!

I'll receive tomorrow my new Vyper 17,3" (same as Max-17 but from PCS) with i7-10875H, RTX 2070 Super, 2x16GB 2666Hz, 2x1TB SSD 970 EVO and no OS, and I would like to ask you for some advice for the initial configuration:

    1. As i'm installing Windows 10 on my own, should I manually install all the drivers from PCS (or Eluktronics in your case) or should I let first Windows Update finish updating? can I install the Control Center from Eluktronics or it wont work well?

    2. Which type of general test would you recommend me to check the CPU/GPU performance for both gaming and 3D-software? PC UserBenchmark? Firestrike? 3DMark? PassMark? TimeSpy? Cinebench R15?

    3. Would you recommend me to overclock/undervolt the CPU for a better performance? and what about switching off the MUX in the BIOS? what advantage does it has? doesnt the MUX switch let full performance when gaming? and what about Intel XTU, Throttlestop or MSI Afterburner? (kind of lost here)

    4. As i'm architect I would need the better color accuracy possible, so is there a way to calibrate the display without using an exterior gadget? or would you recommend me to install the ICC File of the same display created for the review of XMG Neo 17 by notebookcheck.net? https://www.notebookcheck.net/Schen...7CP7S-Laptop-Review.414909.0.html#toc-display

    Many thanks! :)

    1) (pc comes with windows not activated...so just do windows updated and you are fine)

    2) just use drivers from pcs (they are as good as eluk ones, control center too, i test both, and pcs one give better in terms of performance, don't ask me why)

3)do the -50mv undervolt from bios and you are fine, this is a hot laptop, expect ever 90+ degrees under load without locking the cpu to lower wattage. Use optimus mode, mux on dgpu is worth it opnly if you use laptop for gaming.(cause it unlock some extre feature such as fast sync or dsr... in terms of performance are similar, sometimes better when intel bus limit nvidia on optimus mode).

4 PCS profile should be fine, but screen is pretty good out of the box too.

Many thanks @gieffe22 for your tips!

How do you normally work with this laptop? do you leave it in office mode for a lower wattage in CPU for better temps/quiet fans, and when gaming you change it to game/beast mode? or is it better to reboot+activate just dGPU when gaming? and do you know if there is a Key Shortcut for fan boost?

fan boost is not that impotant since fan curve is pretty responsive in thermals... normally i lock the cpu to 2.2ghz and leave it in beast mode to have max gpu performance, this way i have basically ever 60fps and low heat (60ish degrees for both cpu and gpu). If game is intensive i lock cpu to 3.2ghz, this way he manteins under 80 cpu and under 75 gpu. Use full beast mode only on heavy cpu workloads or extreme games.

Dgpu is actually usefull if you want a couple of extra fps or extra features like DSR and fast sync, but if your target is just 60 fps is good the normal optimus mode

Hi @Terreos , does your left fan (CPU) make a weak rattling sound too?

I've recently bought a Vyper 17,3" from PCS (European version of Max-17), and from the beginning its doing it...its not really loud, but as the laptop is brand new I prefer to avoid possible future problems...I opened the laptop and saw that there is like a "brown glue drop" in the fan which could cause a slight misaligment due to its own weight....but then I found in aliexpress the same fan model with the same "thing" so maybe its noormal...could you maybe check your fan? https://ibb.co/9szHtKV

I've recorder the sound with my smartphone just 1-2cm away from the fan exhaust, does it sounds like your fan? (better with headphones)
    https://clyp.it/k2hskvxx https://clyp.it/pz1lxxqz https://clyp.it/xsqbxrqo

@NomenAK @Jdoe84 and @bpvarsity have you solved your issue with the fan? or is it still there?

I just want to know if its something to be worried about + if I should send it to RMA, or if I should just leave it like that..

    Many thanks you all! :)

ps: thank you very much @gieffe22 for your tips!!

Sorry to hear that you had an issue with fan noise on your machine. Mine did not have this issue at all so I would say you got a bad fan with yours. I would honestly get in touch with whoever you purchased your machine from and see if you can exchange it for a new one. Unless it's past it's return date then you might have to do an RMA. And I can't say I saw anything inside of my fans like you have pictured. I was definitely looking pretty closely at it when I had it apart.

Many thanks @Terreos and @BergLake for your answers!

I received it just 5 days ago (in Germany), so I'm still under the 14-days return policy. But if I want to return it I must pay for the shipping, so I will contact them in order to look for a solution.

I've found the same fan model SUNON EG75070S1-1C100-S9A in aliexpress, and they also have that "brown glue drop" on it...so maybe my fan is just a different model than yours? do you have that model number too?

    https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/H74d2d7f8e47f4a119cf926a1c0e5b3788.jpg

The sound itself is quite weak, its even difficult to notice it from the standard position, but if I put my ear closer to the fan exhaust it sounds like the audio files above. It doesn't really bother me, but I just want to know if it's an initial sign of a defective fan to avoid future problems…

Would be great if @NomenAK @Jdoe84 or @bpvarsity could answer, as they also had the same rattling fan issue. Let's hope they enter the forum soon enough :)

Thanks for answering @NomenAK ! so you just keep it like that? I sent the audio files to the technical support and they told me to RMA the laptop...

The question is: is it a weird but normal sound in a good working laptop? or is it an initial sign of a defective fan?

I think it's barely normal, the fan is design like that and the problem happens to lot of people,

RMA Shouldn't change anything but you can try,

Yes i keep it like that i'm a bit manic and i don't mind, so

But i go for liquid metal CPU and GPU and the fan are very very slow now, and the right fan (laptop open in front of you) is shut down 90% of the time on idle / internet nav

Ok thanks @NomenAK ! last question about this :) when did u buy it? I understand that the rattling sound has not increased right? im considering keeping the laptop, if its just a minor design failure and not a potential future broken fan...

What temps has your CPU while nav with some windows and FHD youtube? is 50-60º normal?

In Normal Office mode, Sound Fan Profiles on Medium, with MsHybrid GPU, and Maximum Performance Windows Profile :
    CPU 55° to 60°
    GPU 50°
Fan are Barely audible, at minimum.
I buy it in April or May i think, maybe June (sry, i don't remember) i think the rattling slowly disapear with time

I was turned off the Max series when I found out they don't have N-key rollover. Anyone having key rollover or ghosting problems when playing fast paced games or in midi software?

Have had problems with low key rollover boards in the past playing fps games.

I was tempted by the Max series too, it seems Eluktronics is a great company especially for the build quality and cooling system, as well for customer support.

    Hi,
Did someone knows what is the reference of the trackpad and what is the reference of screws they use to attach the trackpad to the barebone. It seems not to be a standard screw.
    Tks in advance

    Hi,

What is the power limit on CPU and GPU without the battery?

Some of the cells on my battery bloated so I removed it but now my CPU seems to not go above 3ghz with TS and shows PL2 limit and max power of 40W.

I'm going to disagree with you here. I sent Eluktronics some pre-sale questions about the MAX 15 via the contact form on their website. We're past the 48-hour mark as of the writing of this post, and I have not received a reply. At the same time, one of the things I inquired about was a promo code for the outgoing model that showed as expired when I tried to use it. I just went on the site again, and the discount was reactivated, yet not a peep from Eluktronics telling me that this happened. It doesn't inspire confidence that the company would be responsive if I were to purchase a laptop and something go wrong.

That's really bizarre. I've sent Eluktronics about ten emails in the past year and they've always got to me in less than 24 hours. Wonder what happened since that was something I told people that was an good thing about them.

Maybe they're just swamped. @saturnotaku have you tried their reddit page?

I hate the fanboys and their mindless defense of their chosen companies. This is just too preface my further remarks: They are just now starting to catch up on backorders and have been swamped. You all know how that goes with a small company where there aren't enough bodies to go around. I haven't used their customer service and and have no opinion; good or bad. Just an observation...

They had enough time to revise their website to accept the coupon code after I pointed it out to them that it wasn’t working, yet I received no acknowledgement about it. We are now an entire business week since that inquiry was sent. Not even an automated reply saying that they are experiencing high volumes and that responses may be delayed. This is not acceptable, I don’t care how small your operation is. A guy in my neighborhood owns a landscaping business, has literally 3 full time employees including himself, but he always responds within 48 hours of contact, even on weekends.

My MAX17 just blew up again, and I am exploring my options. The laptop he no signs of power, either standalone or when plugged in. I tested the voltage coming out of the power supply, and it seems within spec. I tried unplugging the battery for 10+ minutes, and tried again with no success. I tried wall power only and no battery, and no success.

The first time it was under warranty, it the mother board needed to be replaced. It was all handled well by Eluktronics, despite them being completely overloaded. Now the warranty is expired. I will still be calling to see what they can do and what my costs will be with them.

Is there any other option besides calling Eluktronics? Is there anything user serviceable? Where would I get parts if I wanted to go that route?
