    Hi,

I just placed it in my palm, with the srewing plate facing my palm, and pressed the screw-holes repeatedly with the "rear" of a big (meaning wide) scre driver.

Repeating this procedure while doing it for every scre hole in turn, got it loose eventually.

    Worked for me, good luck!

Breakthrough!!!!!! Finally, I could replace my 8600m gt for the ati 3650 hd on a compal fl90. Did not need dremel or any modification. Just bought artic silver 5 thermal compound, and artic silver purifier to clean the old thermal paste. Undervolted the CPU and the GPU, and now my temps are incredible!!! CPU Idles at 51 and GPU idles at 54.... OMG, i can't believe this :) Thanks all for the tips, they where incredible helpful

Yay! I got my new HD3650 DDR3 in, and got something on my screen!

Thanks all for posting your success stories here, plus the vital feedback!

    However, a few more questions.

First off, I think I screw up my keyboard. When disassembling my FL90, I think I broke the connector of the keyboard to the motherboard ... the black think flew out of there sky high. Now, when I try to connect it, it just gets loose. I tried scotch tape, but was not working yet. Maybe try super glue ... or does anyone have a better idea?

I am trying with the drivers from here -> DriverHeavenDownloads.net - Fast n Furious

... as posted by Daniel Hahn. Are these drivers any good, or whats the benefit of using the modded ones also pointed to by Daniel @ Mobility Modder - ATI Version, Install the Latest Drivers on your ATI laptop

Btw, I also did not have to do any modifications what so ever. I used the termal pads from my old 8600GT (they still stuck to my heat sink) and reapplied some termal paste. That's it. There was a black soft thingy (no idea what it was exactly) that kinda stuck out to the top, so I had to apply some force to press the heat sink back into position. I hope this does not harm the card/heat transfer.

Any help on my two questions above would be great!

EDIT: Okay, I am thru with my driver question. The ones from DriverHeaven seem to be the only one working all right - I managed to get them running. However, I have a new question. What tool to use for checking on GPU temps? I used RivaTuner before, but I don't get any readings, nor from Catalyst Control Center (0° !?!?!). PCWizard says 64° idle (Windows Desktop). Sure not great, but okay, I wonder (if it is correct).

P.S.: Sorry for the monster-edit, I am all thrilled to have my baby back :D Wooohoooo!

P.S.S: Okay, the 0° in the Catalyst Control Center is not the temperature but the rotation of the screen (like 0°, 90°, 180°, 270°) - kinda misleading on the first look, as I'd interpret 0° here as temperature reading meaning "n/a".

    Thanks in advance!

After make a backup and load in RBE, appears how a Acer vBios, it can be the cause of the problem? anyone can post a vBios not Acer for the DDR2 version?.

Well, I has too happy with the replacement that i did not check the external video. If I connect the compal to a vga monitor, nothing shows on screen (black screen), although in the properties page the name of the monitor appears. I see that more people are having the same issue. Any tips?

    Hello,

few days ago i got my new gpu ATI 3650 DDR3 256 into compal FL90 (nvidia 8600gt). The reason to buy new one was simple. I got black screen on display and external monitor. So when i placed ATi card the booting was fine. I loaded system W7 without problem only with default resolution (860*640). I checked temperature of gpu and it was fine below 50°C. System send me a message that all drivers are properly installed and now should ati work good.

One minute after that ntb totally was totally frozen. So i push start button and turn it off. Next time when i was trying boot someting i got the same Black Screen on display and external monitor.

I didnt try flash Bios or vBios(because with black screen it is a little complication). Do you think is that the way how to fix my problem?

PS: i already tried memory changing.. 4times check all the stuff inside and im really sure thats everything fits perfect.

Please contact me asap 557-118-230 or [email protected] thank you

I don't know if there BIOS issues with the DD3 version. The only thing I can confirm is that the 512 DDR2 version works out-of-the-box.

Worst scenario: your new card died?

I also have the ATI 3650 DDR3 256, I did not have to flash the vBIOS or the BIOS, it worked right away.

You did apply thermal paste and heat pads, right?

Sorry I can't be of more help.

    Good luck!

I thought about that scenario. But i used new thermal pads, arctic cooling mx2 paste and heat sink fits totally perfect. There wasnt even time to kill ATi card.

Do you have Windows sounds enabled?

If so, you could verify if it actually boots up - you can also verify this if you hear your HDD being accessed, or you see the HDD LEDs blinking.

If you can't verify this, something went bad - motherboard, CPU, gfx ...

    Good luck!

With 8600GT i loaded W7(i heard that) without problem (blackscreen).
With Ati 3650 loaded W7 without black screen only first time and now im not able to load anything.. im stuck somewhere between bios and system.

i have suspision about drivers.. but how it can possibly change my display?

Drivers only come into play when booting into Windows or whatever OS is in use.

Try a bootable CD, like maybe Win install CD. However, if you don't even see the POST screen on startup, it is NOT a driver issue, I can guarantee that!

Try your 8600GT again, if you can get into Win7 (i.e. hear sound), then the problem is the 3650. If it also fails with the 8600GT, than there is something else wrong (memory, CPU, motherboard, hdd ... or even both gfx-cards).

    Ok!

I changed ATi card for Nvidia and dont know i log the system.. i cant hear anything with headphones or without them BUT! this time ntb listen to my commands numlock/capslock ALT+F4.. however i cant hibernate or shutdown only restarting.. Shloud i start screaming?

I heard some rumors about W7 and drivers that can intervene the bios.
First time when i try ati card i didnt even finish download of new drivers but W7 already have some and instaled this succesfully - minute ago ntb frozen!

EDIT: I was trying to flash my ATi vBios (made boot usb-stick by guide from Z. and 3650 bios from Ayle completed with autoexec.bat included by /atiflash.exe -f -p 0 bios.rom -scansii/) But still i cant boot from USB! I was trying to boot USB F12 key with/without CD/HDD.. nothing happend is there any other trick?

I have strange problem, Installed the card to the laptop. Tested, all worked booted into windows and ok. Then I shut it down, after that power on and screen stays black. Opened up and heatsink didn't touch the chip. So I thought it was fried.

Ordered a new one. Putted in, now heatsink touched gpu. Booted fine, windows worked. Then I did shut down. And then power again, again screen stays black. :S I don't know what more to do. :S

Did you have an eye on temps? Did you apply heat pads and/or thermal paste?

    Good luck!
