I'm not sure what a "Live Cashback Promo" is and from what I can tell there is no "Buy It Now" offer. They will get sold to the 4 highest bidders.

Doesn't Compal's BIOS comes in block? And it won't overwrite the one from new card?

Nope it shouldn't, well it didn't overwrite the hd3650's anyway. :D There are locks that prevent you from flashing th wrong bios to a card...
I put the 8600m gt back and fired up Warhead and boy... That was a really unpleasant experience: 10fps in the intro, closed the game immediatly in disgust...
Is there anyway to use the crisis method with a flash drive? I need to bypass the bios to flash the card...

Basically you make a research on ebay trough MS Live and get something from there with "Buy it now" you get 30% back on paypal from the purchase... How's the bid going?

The seller has 4 cards for sale and they are at $301. My guess is they will go for more than I'll pay.

Here is a couple sites with information on flashing video cards. http://www.mvktech.net/ and http://http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1633&page=3 I've flashed desktop cards, but never tried a notebook. I don't know if you would do it the same way.

You flash the cards the same way. To get the hd3650 working correctly I had to use:
atiflash -p -f 0 m86.bin with -f being the command to bypass the devid check of the flasher because the bios didn't come from the same manufacturer and couldn't be flashed without that "-f"...
The 8600m Gt ctually in our notebooks doesn't have a vbios on it's onw everything is stored in the computer bios(the 1.18 contains a new version of it btw).

Do you know if the vbios for the 8600M GT in the system bios will work for the 9600M GT? I was thinking it would be a simple "plug and play swap" like CPU's or memory.

    "Yale" :confused:
Anyway, the bios of the 8600m gt doesn't work on a 9600m Gt for obvious reason. You have to make sure that whatever card you buy already come with it's own bios otherwise it won't work.

Oops, I hate it when spell checker works too good, sorry about that. I did get a 9600M GT card from an eBay sale. The seller said this about the bios,"These are standard MXM-II cards with their own video bios so as long as your laptop does not block other MXM-II cards in the laptop bios these cards should work." So I will have wait and see what happens. Any suggestions for testing the current card and comparing it to the new card?

Installing the 9600M Gt didn't go so good. :( When I turned it on there was no display. I could hear it boot up, the blue lights flashed normally and the Windows jingle played, but no display. I shut it down and took it apart again. I checked the connections as I tore it down. ( I've been know to forget to connect the LCD panel to the board) Everything was connected as it should be. I put in my old video card, re assembled it, and it worked fine.
I'm open to any suggestions anyone might have. The seller said it had a bios preloaded into it. Could this keep it from working, since Compal has their video bios in the system bios? I do have bios ver. 119 so it should have the newer video bios, but then, it may not work for this card.

Ouch! The fact that you can get all the way to Windows shows that there is indeed a vbios on the card, otherwise the laptop would just hang on the post... I think you'll need to blind flash the card with another vbios.

Maybe a stupid question but could you not attach an externel monitor and flash your internal card from there?

I posted my problems on another forum and so far all I have heard back is I will probably need a system bios updated from Compal. I'm guessing that won't happen, because they will want to sell newer laptops with the 9600M. Also they thought flashing my card might make it useless. Anyone know who I should contact at Compal?

Edit: I did send an email to notebooksuport at ASImobile and I'm waiting to hear from them.

Hey jernkar I found a vbios for you and I've also seen your post on MKVTech :D . You'll have to blind flash it since you can't see the screen. Just extract what's inside the 9600m bios folder in the zip at the root of a bootable usb flashdrive and boot from it. The autoexec.bat should work automatically.
    Link to the file: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zyvmlyyzh2j

DO NOT BOOT FROM THE FLASH DRIVE IF THE 8600m IS INSIDE AS THAT WILL KILL THE CARD SINCE THE BIOS IF FOR A SUPERIOR MODEL!!!

I got ahold of the guy I bought it from. He thought I should try uninstalling my video drivers and shut it down, put the 9600M back in and let Vista try and install new drivers for it. I'm going to give that a try this weekend and see what happens. I'm still waiting to hear back from Compal Electronics, maybe they will come up with an updated bios if there is enough interest in it. I am kind of hesitant to flash it because I can still resell the way it is.

Good luck. About asking Compal to get you a bios, did you tell them that it would be for a GDDR3 model? Because the 9600m in the jhl90 has GDDR2 so the vbios will either not work at all or downclock it....

Good luck z :D. Anyway I've finished bios modding the hd3650.
    Max temp 80*C
Clocks 700/800 in performance mode, rest is stock
    3dmark06: 4362 pts... still 700 pts short of the 9600m GT GDDR3

EDIT: Actually that is wrong. 3d marks scores don't mean anything unless your are using the same type of cpu. The card scored:
1572 SM2 and 1905 SM3 that is a total of 3477 points ignoring the cpu score. The 9600m GT of Nightwalker scored 2049 SM2 and 1871 SM3. That's a total of 3920 pts only 400 pts of difference not too bad.

There seems to be a strange surge of interest in the 9650m GT card we are selling. Please note that these cards are normally meant for the people who buy Zepto Laptops in order for them to upgrade and so the price differences are reflected as such to people who own Zepto laptops and people who don't own Zepto laptops.

For a place as far away as the USA and beyond, we can make concessions to export the cards accordingly. Please note that there is NO refund nor warranty that the card will work and you are expected to check for compatibility yourself. We can only stress test the cards beforehand inside Zeptos for artifacts and defects before shipping out to you. If the card is damaged during shipping, you must send the card back and we will issue a new one. Only one replacement will be given.

The price is around 600+USD, not 400+USD

Yes. The 9600m GT card is a pretty good deal for what it is as we want to clear the stock and prepare for the 9650m GT to cater to our clientele. You will need to make sure that the 9600m GT cards work on your machines though. It is the same as the one someone has placed in their C90S in the Asus section of the notebookreview forums.

The 9600m GT is S$450 which is around US$300
    The 9650m GT is S$321 + S$642(non-Zepto users) =S$900+ which is around US$600+.

    Dear Ayle,

I'm using Compal FL90 series notebook and I'm staying in Istanbul from Turkey. My notebook VGA Card is a standard 512MB GDDR2

GF8600M GT. I tired using this card and I'm interesting a newest one. So I read your message and I want to buy a better MXM II VGA

card. But I really don't know how can I flash my new VGA card vBios for this new cards. My GF8600M GT Bios Version 60.84.42.00.23.

I think this is a standart vBios for Compal FL90 Series.

Other side you said I've finished bios modding the HD3650 for Compal FL90 is it right? If it is true can you send me your vBios

*.ROM file or share all forum members and can you explain me how can I mode vbios for HD3650 or GF9600M GT or another one?

Thanks for your interests at this time.

Do the cards have their own vbios or is it integrated in the main system bios?
