I have been googling and found that the hel80 supports a crisis disk function, which can restore bios at start using the Fn+B combo. Did thta and it did seem to do as described, apart from the actual fixing, presumably because im not using proper firmware (btw. It does stil sorta boot, I can hear drives+cpu etc spinning, just no visuals).

Congrats! I ordered mine yesterday. Similar config to yours, but with the T2500 and the 7200 RPM drive to help keep my compile times short!

Sorry to hear about your wait. Just keep reminding yourself that it'll be worth it!

Not to worry Groffen, it won't be a very long wait...our new shipment might be in next week, but it might be the week after.

The good/bad news is that you are #1 in line (which of course means that your order was the first one after we ran out :()

have anybody ever used the NGO Drivers for the HEL80
link of these drivers can be found at:
    http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=Files&go=cat&dwn_cat_id=10

At overclock.net one of the threads was talking about drivers for overclocking in a laptop. And how stable NGO drivers were over the Omega. Just wondering if anybody has used these and found them successful?

Hopefully the backorder part will come in soon and my laptop will be sent to me so I don't have to keep asking all these questions.

It is only the wireless card that is back ordered, and those will be in on Monday, so your wait shouldn't be too long. :)

email your Sales Advisor to find out when your scheduled ship date is.

    Where did you buy it?

I recommend you go back to your dealer for help. This is not something that you should be asking for help from anyone other than your dealer. If you get bad advice here, or you do not follow it properly (this is what got you in trouble in the first place), you could do even worse damage and no one here would be happy being responsible for contributing to that.

That is why you are not getting the answer that you are looking for here.

Please...go back to your dealer for help.

I w3asn't planning to open anything up myself, just trying to get as much info as possible, so that I know what my situation is. It's weekend, so dealer isn't online.
I've only trying to get it to work with Phoenix Crisis recovery, so far no luck.

Can somebody please post accurate dimensions of the hel80 laptop with the 9-Cell battery?
I need to get a case before it actually gets here.
    Thanks

EDIT: Previous posted dimensions are slightly off; true dimension with 9 cell:
    14.25 x 11.25 x 1.5

Even though the HEL80's Go7600 is underclocked, it still posts some great frames per second in the latest games. I ran 4 gaming tests in my review, but I thought it was impressive.

Prey runs well at what i play at..800x600 with 4x AA with everything on but vsync..it didnt go below 40fps.. It ran well at 1024x768 with no AA but at times it would dip down into the 27-30fps area during alot of activity.

This is all with the drivers that came on the notebook and at factory clockings on the video card: 350/350

I don't want to sound rude, but this question has been asked and answered many times already. The answer is the warranty offered, and slight price differences

The difference between the PowerPro and Crown models is the warranty coverage.

The PowerPro models come standard with a 3 Year Warranty, where PowerNotebooks.com pays for Next Business Day shipping both ways.

The Crown models come standard with a Manufacturer’s One Year Parts and Labor Warranty with “Match” shipping (you pay to ship it in to their repair center, and they match the shipping method you used to send it in when they send it back to you.) In addition, the Crown line offers On-site and Accidental Damage Protection warranties. You can get the Crown warranties for 1 or 3 years.

So, if you like the 3 Year Warranty, but don’t care about On-site or Accidental Damage Protection, the PowerPro is the best deal. However if you don’t care about a 3 Year Warranty, or you do want On-site or Accidental Damage Protection for either 1 or 3 years, the Crown is the best deal.

as far as i know nvidia has had a temperature diode on their graphics cards since at least the 6000 series... though some manufacturers disable the ability to access it in order to discourage overclocking. my xfx 6600gt has a temp on it, but my mom's computer's msi 6600gt had it disabled. i was able to activate it using this bios flashing trick. if the HEL80 cards do not show it, the 7600go may still have one that could potentially be activated.

Control Panel Categories > 3D Settings > Monitor Temperature Levels.

You can monitor the current temperature of your NVIDIA GPUs and track temperature history. When appropriate, the GPU will automatically slow down to run at a lower temperature

Or so says a chart that appeared with Forceware 91.31 - I don't believe it was there with my previous drivers, so I'm guessing it's a new thing and took a while to notice, or some cards support this feature, and others do not.

Hi, all - I thought I was in the running for an IBM/Lenovo, but after the front page review posted today, and reading ALL of the pages of this thread, I may be a PowerNotebooks customer soon....

2 questions, directed at Donald - should it be possible to upgrade the wireless card when the new "n" standard comes out? Second, do you anticipate offering (soon) larger hard drives? I'll be using this for photography, and a 16 megapixel DSLR tends to chew up hard drive space quickly....

We never know for sure whether new technology can be integrated into existing equipment, but the N wireless will probably require the new Santa Rosa chipset that will be released around the 2nd Qtr of next year.

We release new hard drives as soon as they hit the channel, but for now the 100GB SATA is the largest available. If you need more space I would recommend using an external hard drive, or burning off what you don't need anymore on your hard drive to DVDs.

Thanks - too bad about the "n" wireless...I have an Epson P2000, I fill it's 40GB drive in a day, typically - the screen on it is good enough to allow me to edit down to 5 or 6GB at the end of the day, but then there's the next day's shooting now limited to 35GB - this is the reason for a laptop with a good screen and processor....perhaps I'll end up burning DVD's at night as you suggest.

An external hard drive would probably be more cost-effective. The 500GB drives are about ~$235:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822136025
The biggest hard drive right now is 750GB, but those are mighty expensive . . buying two 500GB drives wouldn't cost much more than a single one of those.

200GB hard drives have started entering the mobile market, but so far, I have only see Dell offer it, and it is a paltry 4200RPM.

It's weird, I ordered a HEL-80 today after seeing a friend's Compal HEL-80. Anyway, the looks of it (laptop bought in The Netherlands) differ so much from the pictures I see on this forum. The one my friend has (and the one I'm gonna get) is black/silver with a silver laptop cover. It really looks like an S96J (but it's definately not ;)). Not that I don't like it, but still, it's weird.
