@XMG, Tom can you tell me if this is the RAM that comes by default with XMG Fusion 15?

    Corsair DDR4, 2666MHz 8GB (1 x 8GB) 260 SODIMM, Unbuffered, 18-19-19-39

Go in to nvidia control panel and set of to only integrated gpu. Then check which apps still run on dgpu. Could be the control center.

wanted to hear some reviews on gaming from real users. Will mag-15 with 1660ti perform well on new games in 1080p , let's say RDR 2 on High settings?
Also i've heard there was gpu temparature limitation it is already fixed by bios update, right?

You should check Bob's full review. This is not a "balls to the wall" gaming laptop, but it will do fine with 1080p until it gets saturated with heat. Then it throttles down, but should be still fine at high settings. Curious to find out what the other guys say.

Depends on your climate. I have no issue running my CPU at 34-40W 3.5-3.9ghz and gpu at 80w with 1850mhz.

Enthusiast/eluktroboost mode is a strange mode on this laptop. Laptop runs hotter on GPU and CPU (by the looks of it, voltage is higher in this mode), but the performance difference isn't really visible to me.

Where do I set the integrated GPU setting? Also in the bottom right it says five things running off the 1660ti but I can't find where to change this.

That's because electroboost is enabled on both modes. Electroboost is only disabled on the powersaver setting. The only difference between the balanced and enthusiast mode is the higher CPU power limit on enthusiast.

Its strange that in the second mode I get 80w gpu power draw and in enthusiast mode 55W, but same performance xd

Go to manage 3d settings. Than choose for global settings to use integrated GPU. Can you also make picture of your cpu usage, cpu residency states and cpu power draw.

After daily use for about 2 weeks since purchase, the right palm rest now has a squeaky sound when removing my hand on it. I wouldn't think this is normal?

@XMG, I have a Mag-15 but was wondering if you've seen a similar issue on your version of the laptop. I did submit a ticket to Eluktronics already.

It looks like my TB3 port might be a bit faulty. I've been using the the port in DisplayPort Alt mode to run my 1440p 144hz monitor through a USB-C Cable Matters dongle that supports 1440p @ 144Hz. While using it today browsing Youtube, the port randomly stopped working. I've tried everything now, from a fully windows re-installation and a fresh re-install of all the Eluktronics drivers and it is still broken.

I was able to isolate the problem to the port though, since the dongle and DisplayPort cable works perfectly on my Macbook. Though the Mag-15 USB-C port still supports USB devices though, just not any outputs. Strangely enough, the HDMI port still functions as intended, it's just too bad the HDMI ports on my monitors only supports up to 60Hz.

Have you guys seen this similar issue where the TB3 no longer can output to a display?

@XMG any word on thunderbolt 3 fix? Laptop doesn't recognize my phone hooked up to USB C port and it still doesn't charge my phone. If this issue isn't fixed soon I might have to return my machine and repurchase after it's fixed...

    EDIT:
Just to clarify this by no means is a threat. Just don't want to get stuck with a laptop that may or may not get it's issues fixed. No hard feelings to anyone reading this as I think this is an amazing laptop with everything it has. Alienware for example never fixed it's custom fan curve issues, Lenovo disabled the max fan button, etc and these are things some people might be willing to live with but I want to make sure I have a laptop with basic functions working like tb3 before my return window closes.

Making threats to a reseller isn't going to make Intel work any faster. Also, that would be an incredible waste of time for you and XMG. Just use your regular charger until its fixed and stop being such a diva lol.

Coming from a Dell/Alienware product, I don't think we should complain about slow updates. The control center is so much more stable than the garbage Alienware Command Center (AWCC). Also, dell and proper update support don't exist. I have bashed them in their own forums about messing up fan curves on their M15 r1. Those fans would turn at 40C CPU temp, which happens quite often and especially if it was charging/connected to a power outlet. Also, their bios updates broke the ability to customize fan curves in their AWCC and you know what they say: Well its how it was intended by the developers -_-. They even state on the product page, you can customize everything. Also, the M15 had a pretty annoying bug where the dGPU would wake from sleep now and then causing to discharge faster.

If you compare intel to dell/Alienware and other laptop brands then we are doing pretty good. I have only encountered one minor issue with the control center and it has only happened a couple of times now, if it wakes from sleep it will run on the dGPU and draw like 4-5W more. But ending the control center in the task manager fixes this immediately.

    Hi all! A couple questions:
    • Is there a trick to removing the spacebar on this laptop? The left third of the spacebar won't press down after a month and a half of use — it feels like the switch is stuck. (I can remove all the other keys just fine but am nervous about pulling on the spacebar in the wrong place.)
    • My trackpad sometimes stops working at random, and the only fix seems to be turning it off and on again. Anyone else experience this issue?

@XMG I have also experienced this trackpad issue but haven't found a reliable way to reproduce the issue and most of the time I use a mouse because of this. Will try to reproduce the issue and document but I haven't been able to do so.

there's no such in russia, more than that - none of the brand is shipping to russia and none of shops, i think that's mainly cos of our weird customs laws. Do you think it's really risky? I guess even if some problem occurs i can 1) fix it myself if its not critical or software related or with some local generic service 2) ship it back, i still have warranty, right, just some ?

I was considering the same , but I think there's too much risk in the long run. I think it's better to go with XMG, just come to Eastern Europe on vacation, get the laptop shipped to you while you are in Bulgaria or Romania :D My five cents below:

I live in Bulgaria so a 100 usd or 100 euro difference for me is a big deal (coz we are the poorest state in EU), but in the end I went with XMG. Indeed , the price of the laptop in the USA is lower, but having it shipped to Russia will increase the price. If for some reason it breaks down shipping it back to the USA will cost you a lot. I don't really know the customs lows in Russia, but most probably you'd have to pay VAT on import. If you also have to pay import tax (before vat) then things become really expensive. I did the math lots of times, but in the EU there's no way not to pay the VAT which was around 200 USD. ( no import tax is needed for laptops between usa and uk so I could use a uk mailing service).

There are a many Russians living in Eastern Europe EU states, if you have a good friend or a relative it's better to go through them.

actually no - the price for the service is pretty cheap (~70$). Yes you have to pay import tax, but you have to pay it anyway whther its from US or EU and also it included in every notebook price here so they're even more expensive. Only way to pass this as you said is to come to EU\US and get it myself, but its also not that trivial (but in this case i can even try to return VAT).

As for VAT if i'm getting it correctly its already included in prices on amazon (warehouse of this service is in Delaware which is tax-free for orders as i got it)

Not fully got what you meant by "it's better to go through them" , even if i ship it to them (i have sister in UK btw) - they still can't just reship it back to me, so only option is they came here with it or i came to them.

@XMG actually i keep in mind crazy idea to come to germany mb and buy laptop, do you have some offline options?
    - i see much difference in mag15 and xmg price, it's actually bigger than 100$ mentioned here (cheapest 1660ti, 512ssd config on mag is 1500$ vs €1,720 on xmg (correct me if i'm wrong)
-do you really have russian keyboards now as it stated on website?
    thanks

The VAT that you see on Amazon does not relate to Russia I believe. Usually you have to pay 20% vat (or whatever the rate in mother Russia is) + import tax (we call this мито) so you end up paying: shipping from USA + import tax + vat.

About going through relatives. I'll just base this on our eastern European mentality :D They must know of a way to ship stuff to Russia for cheaper, there must be a way. If you buy from Germany, there's no shipping fee to UK so your sisters can maybe use FedEX, DHL, etc. Perhaps there is info about similar situations in the Russian forums too. I can understand you, because I looked at those sites (xmg and eluktronics) for a long time and the base offer of Eluktronics is just better .You get windows 10 home, you get 16gb of ram and you get 512 MB nvme drive for 1600.00 USD while the base XMG offer has no Windows OS, comes with 8GB of RAM and with regular 256 GB ssd m.2 drive, not nvme for 1500.00 EUR. But based on the support that XMG provides, based on the geographical location for warranty return and on the fact that I can return it if I don't like it I think it's better to get from XMG.

Yes thank you! I was searching for this model and mentioned it in the other tongfang topic: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/tongfang-gk5cn5z-gk5cn6z-gk5cq7z-gk5cp0z.815943/page-459, I found it on pc specialist as the viper II = TONGFANG GK5CP7Y

I think tongfang makes great laptops, but marketing on these new laptop models is zero. Imagine if some companies would so some proper marketing, these 14 inch U laptop I posted earlier is 0.3kg lighter than XPS 13, but with same hardware :p

    EDIT:
Holy moly! The weight on illegear onyx pro is only 1.55KG! And the Illegear selenite pro is indeed the QC7 with better specs, same weight, same thickness just larger because of 17 inch screen.

That is an old review. Mine is 9th Gen 9750H. I am sure they will offer 10th gen when it becomes available. But, the review is still valid. The only change is the newer CPU, which is a minuscule change in the grand scheme of things. I do no expect 10th gen to be remarkable unless it has more cores, higher clocks and higher power limits. It would need to be thicker and heavier to accomodate that, which would actually be fine with me. Thin and light isn't really a plus because impairment becomes unavoidable. The real selling point on these Tongfang whitebooks is the fact that they are made better and cost less than competitor products with the same specs. It could be even better if it were just a little bit thicker and a little heavier to house larger heat sinks, radiators and fans. That would really piss some people off, no doubt. Some folks value form over function.

I don't get the nose cam thing though. I really would not want that. Terrible idea. Webcam needs to be at the top of the screen for the best results. Seems like some of the ODMs weren't paying attention when that stupid idea was a major flop for Dell.

Eluktroboost is a proprietary Eluktronics hardware-based performance tweak that the other brands do not have. The future may also hold some other value-added tweaks at a firmware level, but that remains to be seen at the moment.

Other resellers do have "eluktroboost" but under a different name since it's something done at the ODM level

Thank @XMG , they actually have a few helpful videos about the laptop. At the same time, their support is non-existent... I've sent them bunch of questions about the laptop through the contact form on their web site and through sales@bestware and nobody ever got back to me. Seems like XMG's Tom replies to this thread every now and then, but he does so very selectively.

So far Illegear is the only reseller that offer it (for now). Probably will have Turbo mode just like their previous models. 4 zone RGB.

Wow there's an option for a 240hz 4k OLED. Didn't even think that existed.

    @XMG
When I got the laptop, I noticed when adjusting screen brightness, keyboard brightness, volume up and down etc. it would cause a very high burst in discharge. I eventually figured out why it was doing it this by accident.

It's because of the Control Center!

My guess is the overlays of the control center are causing high sudden discharges for a simple task as changing volume up and down.

    PS.

I updated to CC .19, Intel 26.20.100.7463 and NVIDIA 441.41 WHQL and my discharge in lowest idle state is still 5.4 - 6W :) So luckly it didn't break anything for me  :p

Thank you very much for the updates Tom.

Any word on the progress for the fix when switching to an external display over HDMI and the low FPS and stutter issue?

For what ever reason i only have this issue with star wars jedi fallen order. All my other games are the same fps as if i was using the laptop as normal. But star wars is locked at 90fps for me with the laptop then when docked it drops to 45 making it unplayable. This is with Origins and my other origin games work fine.

Edit: Just downloaded a new game and had the same issue. It was a game that was only available in windowed or full screen. Realized for what ever reason while in full screen my fps is crap at 48 fps. Has to be in windowed or windowed full screen mode. Sekiro doesnt have full screen windowed mode so that is how i figured it out. Went back into star wars and boosted fps to around 60-65 by going into windowed. Issue is i cant get higher then that as in windowed mode the game is to taxing on the 1660ti. Full screen without an external monitor i get 90 fps. A large boost in performance.

So could I install this on the Eluktronics version? The Control Center on the website is still 2.1.0.15. Are there any problems if I use this XMG version instead? Thank you!
