They replied, asked me to re-install firmware and CC. They offered to take a look at the laptop for free, but I don't have nor the time, nor the desire to deal with this. Their support is indeed good and responsive after they saw my complaint, but I need the laptop for work so I can't wait and stay without a computer. There's not much to configure: install Windows 10 home, install the drivers as listed ( I already had the firmware flashed from before)and install user specific software. The only user specific software I've installed today and I keep having the same issues as before is Google Chrome. I am not so much frustrated, but disappointed.

If anyone wants to try a 3rd party software that controls fans on most Tongfang laptops, if not all (QC7 might work this). Here it is: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...gk5cq7z-gk5cp0z.815943/page-388#post-10874196 This allows an user custom fan curve. You'll have to manually add it to the start up list if you want this to automatically run on startup. Just hit Win+E and use this address %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. Also you can add Sound Blaster if it doesn't already startup automatically.

If my system was messed up, I would try it. But since I don't have any issues and don't want to create any, Ill stay away with such apps. Maybe something for the brave Tom @XMG

I tried it already, it just caused the fans to go out of control pulsing up and down. To an extent it might work but for now it looks like it doesn't work out of the box

Does anyone know how to properly install the thunderbolt 3 drivers? I connected an MSI display I just bought through my usb type C port and it worked! However after I installed the MSI OSD app to try to configure the display I found out I still needed to connect the USB cable type B from my laptop to the display (which I connected) but then my USB type C stopped working. I tried uninstalling the OSD app from MSI, shutting down my laptop, restarting, etc but the MSI monitor fails to get the connection. Going to try reinstalling my thunderbolt 3 drivers.

@XMG do you know how to install the default thunderbolt drivers? Not the new beta one (because that requires a newer version of windows that I do not wish to upgrade to right now).

Edit: To add some more information, after installing the .inf files and then trying to install the thunderbolt 3 application. I get the following message

App installation failed with error message: Deployment Add operation with target volume C: on Package AppUp.ThunderboltControlCenter_1.0.16.0_x64__8j3eq9eme6ctt from: (ThunderboltControlApp_1.0.16.0_x64_ReleaseWithLogs.appx) failed with error 0x80073CFD. Decided to just do a clean wipe of windows, updated to latest windows version and now I have thunderbolt control center but monitor still fails to recognize the display alt mode of the usb type C. I have another computer with a thunderbolt c port (connected to igpu) and it worked with the monitor fine so I know it's not the monitor or the thunderbolt 3 cable that's messed up. Seems like I might need to re-install the nvidia drivers and maybe the type C driver that comes with it might fix the issue... Will report back and see if I get anything working. Really odd that it stopped working considering that I had it working before but after installing MSI's OSD app it stopped working.

Are you trying to install Thunderbolt Control Center from the windows store? Or is the app you're talking about another Thunderbolt app? If it's the store one, note the minimum requirments list "Intel DCH Thunderbolt Driver Installed" so you might just need to ensure that's correctly installed first.

I've seen windows have some issues when you've installed more than one type/version of driver for the same thing and it can get confused and doesn't always act as you would expect. I generally have to go into Device Manager, manual uninstall any drivers for the devices I'm trying to sort out and then install the specific one I want. I'd be careful with the MSI OSD app, it might be installing a different driver and confusing things. But you should also be able to manually select which driver you want to use.

Note: I don't have one of these laptops yet, I'm just experienced deploying out fleets of desktop/laptops, so just suggesting this from a general Windows 10 troubleshooting POV.

Happy to report I got it working. If this happens to anyone, the solution is to make sure you DDU the nvidia driver and re-install the nvidia driver with the usb type c support and then restart. After doing so I can report I finally have a working monitor :)

Check the power settings and see if it's turning off the USB ports to "save power"
Might need to check in the advanced power settings in the control panel and/or the Power Managment tab for the USB-C/Thunderbolt port in device manager.

OK, so another problem popped out just out of the blue. The wireless on the laptop simply stopped working while I was watching a YouTube video. On this laptop I have only microsoft windows, xmg driver package and chrome. CMD reports 75% packet loss when I ping a website :(( This problem does not exist on the other 3 computers on my network incuding my cell.

edit 1: I was able to find what causes the package loss\web sites not loading. This only occurs if I have an external hard drive connected to the left usb port (the one that's always on I guess). I was able to reproduce with simply copying around 10 GB of data and also with installing a game. I was not able to reproduce this with a USB stick and with the same hard drive plugged into another usb port (the 2 usb ports on the right side). Can someone else try to reproduce? My external hard drive is Seagate Expansion 1.0 TB HDD. Running latest Windows OS with all updates.

edit 2: last problem I share before I return the laptop (thanks XMG support for trying to help) is that the whole battery drained while it was in sleep mode for 6 hrs... I've had around 10 laptops over the years and that's a new. I just want to say that the laptop lasted me more than 6 hrs on battery while I was watching YouTube and Twitch :))

This is a total stretch, but If it saves me $600-$700 dollars in shipping its totally worth it.

So my kitten broke my new Mag-15 by knocking it off a counter and, due to living in Dubai, shipping back for the repairs is super expensive. Two questions:

    • Since the Mag15 is identical (save for branding) to the other OEMs, do you think there's a chance I could ship somewhere closer and pay for the repairs?
    • Eluktronics are okay to send me the parts needed (Lid and Screen) but I'm not sure how complicated it would be for a repair shop over here to fix. I know this would void the warranty but I doubt I'll need it again and am more than willing to take that risk. Does anyone know how complicated that would be in terms of a repair?
I'm more than capable on the software/desktop side but I know exactly 0 about Laptop hardware servicing/repairs.

Long-shot i know, but would really appreciate any feedback this forum has. Thanks!

Can someone share their default settings for TurboBoost Power Max, TurboBoost Short Power Max, and Processor Core IccMax?

I think Intel XTU did something wonky and messed up my default values, so I want to make sure everything is at factory settings before I uninstall it.

    Here are my settings..
    TurboBoost Power Max....45W
    TurboBoost Short Power Max....90W
    Processor Core IccMax....140A

Edit: Intel XTU did something to where the values carried over even after I uninstalled, so it all showed up in Throttlestop. That’s why I reinstalled it and am trying to get back to default settings.

Just uninstall xtu, then uninstall control center and then reinstall control center. I believe control center resets the default power limits if I'm not mistaken.

    Performance mode should have
    60w and 90w
    Balance
    45w and 60w
    Battery save
    35w and 45w I think

I was trying to install the new thunderbolt update earlier, but I couldn't get the thunderbolt control center to install due to some certificate error. Does anyone know if it's possible to uninstall the three .inf files from the first step, or if leaving them installed while not doing the rest of the steps will impact the thunderbolt port/ rest of the computer somehow?

You have to install the certificate, it should be in the same folder. The way I uninstall those 3 files is by going into the install scripts folder and running the uninstall scripts one by one in powershell with command prompt. Let me tell you installing and uninstalling thunderbolt 3 on this machine is a *****. I couldn't get it working for the longest time and then restarting after a windows update brought it back... Unfortunately updating to windows 1903 introduces studdering in a lot of games so I end up having to constantly wipe my machine and starting from scratch to make sure everything works.

I pretty much automated all my windows 10 reinstalls with a bunch of scripts I made and I'm working on disabling window feature updates automatically soon too... Maybe I'll post my scripts and settings....maybe...

Just to check that we're talking about the same thing, you're referring to this version, right? https://www.reddit.com/r/XMG_gg/comments/e2coal/thunderbolt_3_update_for_xmg_fusion_15/

If so, do I run all the "removeXXX.bat"? And if so, will the port retain all functionality?

No, I uninstalled using a previous version. The problem I have is after uninstall I can't "reinstall" because of some dumb error saying I'm missing a dependency despite having everything installed. Only a windows update restored port functionality for me.

In that case I'll hold off on doing anything. Just letting those three .inf files be installed without the control center shouldn't harm anything, right?

Only slightly related, but on installing the sound blaster software, can some audophile tell me what the different versions of headphones are? E.g. H3, H5, H7, H9... I find different brands that sell H5/7 headphones but really can't seem to dig up an explanation, I assume it has to do with the technology/maybe surround sound or something?

Hmm the new MSI GS66 is hot. 99Wh and under 2kg. Let's see what they are going cost and how much this fusion 15 is worth.

    1. It'll have less build quality if they still use the plastic
    2. Cost more than mag 15 I'm guessing
    3. 300 hz display is a little Overkill
    4. Most likely won't have windows hello
    5. MSI out of the box bloat that makes you feel like you are lactose intolerant and MSI decided to give you full fat whole milk
    6. Ports still on the side which might get in the way of mouse hand if you have enough things hooked to it

Many of those new laptops will use Zen 2. If its worth the upgrade in performance I'll definitely take the hit. A i7 9750H and 1660 ti is underwhelming the least. Especially compared to my pc.

Feels bad that I couldn't wait lol.

I got as far as that it seems to be some kind of generational thing used across brands, but then there's comparison reviews who say a specific H4 might be better than a particular H5 or something. Yes I've googled, and checked out a reddit audiophile sub's FAQ, still no answer, definitely not a clear one, it is somehow related to audio quality (I hope as H9s are in the $500 range), but how are what I still haven't figured out.

Was wondering if it might have something to do with mini surround speakers or something, because I do have a headphone capable of that but wouldn't know what/if 'H-class' it is...

Ok so I found the last piece of the puzzle that they DONT mention in the instructions. After installing the 3 inf files, you need to power off the laptop and disconnect everything, including power from it for 30 seconds. Then turn it back on and continue the steps which involves installing the certificate under "trusted people" when you manually select a location to store the certificate and THEN you can install the app. I have only tried this once so I'm not 100% sure it's reproducible and I still don't have display alt mode working (had it working before but this is like my 5th windows 10 reinstall.)

How long does it take everyone's screen to come on from sleep? When I open the lid, the screen doesn't come on instantly and takes several seconds. Is it because of Windows Hello? I haven't used a Windows laptop in several years, so I forgot how long it normally takes.

Also, what's your battery drain like even after all the updates? During sleep as well as normal use on battery.

So are these still essentially Intel-TongFang QC7 (Element/Fusion 15/MAG-15/Vapor 15 Pro) laptops, but with MAX-P (opposed to MAX-Q) options. Is that the only difference?
EDIT: Ok, after some more googling, I've found there's a bit more different. Although mainly just Keyboard, I/O, and dedicated video options.

17" is basic the 15" motherboard and battery re-bodied and upgraded terminal wise for usage in a 17". If someone wanted to improve that model, swap the lid/top assembly with the last gen 17" TF laptop, swap the keyboard tray with a mechanical keyboard and source a 120hz 4k panel or 240hz 1080p panel. I don't understand the reasoning for the MAX 15" to not have TB3, (intel exclusivity policies?).

EDIT: MAX 17" has no logo nor branding, making it really stealthy.

I think it's going to be up to the vendors if they will let us option it with a mechanical keyboard, I don't think Tongfang should have completely tossed the mechanical keyboard option even though there are mixed performance and reliability issues. There are claims the latest version of TF's mechanical keyboard has optical switches now.

In terms of doing a swap, I might be incorrect that it's just a keyboard swap based on eyeing, it look like the tray sizes and opening are different, however I hope I'm wrong.

I just came across an issue, that I can't seem to solve.
When I want to video chat on Messenger.com via Chrome, I have no access to the webcam nor microphone, even though these are allowed in the Chrome and Windows settings.
I tested it in Edge browser, and there everything works.
Does anyone know how to solve this?

I recommend trying to use edge or Firefox to confirm it's not chrome specific issue. I had an issue once that wasn't resolved until chrome had an update. If it doesn't work in another browser than I think it's a windows setting. There's a setting in windows to disable web cam system wide or for uwp apps

Is the new Stealth going to have a flipped motherboard like the old Stealth? Because that's why I took it off my list...

Does any one know what should be idle CPU power consumption ?
I've received Fusion 15 few days ago, did clean install including latest BIOS and CC.
Unfortunately HWinfo and other tools show 12W when on idle (CPU 1-2%, 800 - 900MHz) . Fans are bugging me, they are off for minute or two then CPU reaches 50C fans kick in for few minutes and cycle repeats it self. All in Quiet mode.

Did that, unfortunately did not help. I have the issue with facebook.com and messenger.com so far, I did an online camera check and it worked..

I want to know as well. I don't know what my CPU should be doing at idle... when left alone with nothing running, it jumps around between 850MHz to 1600MHz (spends more time above 1000Mhz) while consuming 0.7~2.5 W.

What is normal CPU behavior? Because this is the first time I've tried monitoring mine.

Also lost 11% overnight with the lid closed. Is this a problem many people are having?

I'm having trouble finding pros and cons of the various thermal paste options when buying direct from Eluktronics -- they offer stock, CM MasterGel, or Conductonaut. I would be happy to pay a little extra up front for better temps, but I don't want to have to re-paste in a few months / years when the TIM pumps out or dries up or whatever it is that I'm supposed to worry about. What's going to give me best temps without being a maintenance headache?

I don't have proper solution, but it works for me (different laptop, though)
    Try
    1) Disconnecting any external display and closing any dGPU app
    2) Uninstalling NVIDIA USB 3.10 eXtensible Host Controller
    3) Uninstalling Nvidia USB Type-C Port Policy Controller
