Due to the current situation between OCZ and Flextronics, most vendors of the whitebook have discontinued the product, effective 2/16/2009. However, the W840 chassis may possibly be introduced by a different redistrubuter in the coming weeks. This post will be updated once more information is provided on the situation. Currently, Alienware, who has a direct contract with Flextronics are the only vendors who have not discontinued selling this chassis.

Of course, this is a relatively new chassis, so there aren't a lot of vendors that carry it. Hopefully this can be stickied or at least referenced to when the above mentioned situation comes up. I will be adding more information and more vendors when necessary.

Thanks for compiling a list. Thread is now stickied.
-
thanks ichime ! I think the CyberPower is the the cheapest website but the Gamer Xtreme M1's video card is DDR2 no DDR3
-
Yes they seem to be the least expensive, this was actually the FIRST company i contacted. They have had this model on their site for some time, i called their contact number and nobody there could answer a single question I had about this notebook. They said they would get back to me and i waited 5 days and not a peep. I called their tech support and same thing, nobody had a clue about this model. I searched them on google and their rep is not so good so i bailed on them. -
A german vendor:
cyber-system.de -
can anyone check if the OCZ store in dubai sells this laptop too or just memory and other stuff?
-
-

-

Does anyone know of any Canadian retailers that have it? I just checked with Eurocom and they said they won't be selling it.
I'm probably going to just go through Xotic but i hate paying the extra fee's + tax + currency conversion. A $2700 US ish laptop comes to around $3500 Canadian. -
Got another one...

I want a qx9300 and cyberpowersystem doesnt do that yet and tell wil not allow me to buy the laptop without a cpu (they say because the system HAS to be tested)
Add that to your list cyberpowersystem.co.uk/ -
That green machine is hella impressive. OMG. Bet ya break 10k 3dmark06 easily
No, really though.. That thing gave me a chubby.
-
Yep got to have a decdent laptop to match it really lol
Yep I think for some reason I should break 10k 3dmark easy -

What is happening to the vendors? >.< Don't they want to make money? Why they offer the notebook and then just remove it? -
Does anyone know what type of discount the Xoticpc discount for students is? Because I know they have one...
-
actually, i called them up to ask them about a student discount, but they say that they took it off after august/september cause its just a pre-school season sale apparently, nothing permanent...
-
Well xotic at least doesn't throw in 250$ worth of tax...
-
As I recall, Xotic's student discount is 50% off shipping.

Add AVA Direct and HyperSonic PC(owned by OCZ) to the list.

I offer the Criterion again, so it would be great if you could change my status on the list.

I got another one. But it ticked me off a little bit about how I got it. In computershopper november 2008 issue. They reviewed it under the reseller Maingear's eX-L and thou it won review for their gaming laptops. (by .1) the price was $4068 for a X9100 (O.C. to 3.33GHz and I think thats a typo) 4GB two 320hd and etc. for that price you can get QX9300 from KN or Alienware. Anyway's they gave it a 8.4, which I though was un-just for a OCZ. But understandable so with that crazy price. With all of these reseller you would think price would be getting better.
-
the Gamer Xtreme M1's video card is DDR2 no DDR3. does it make a difference in performance that is noticed??
-
It's called a typo. You know? Sometimes happens on the Internet.
There is no DDR2 3870. -
I actually called them and asked them about the DDR2 thing. They assured me that it WAS NOTa typo.
I'm pretty confused since I can't find anything about this vid card being a DDR2. -
This is Cyberpower we're talking about; possibly the LEAST knowledgeable of resellers out there.
-

I'm 99% sure Cyberpower gets their barebones from OCZ, just like everyone else besides Alienware. If they do, the cards are most definitley not DDR2.

Anyone offering the Whitebook with the 1400x900 screen?
-
-
It seems that newegg is officially carrying the Whitebook as a DIY model, and is now available on their website (for a pretty steep price). Keep in mind though that there are several different models, depending on the optical drive and GPU configuration. Also, there is another 17 inch DIY notebook offered by OCZ, which is NOT the Whitebook; this model utilizes an NVidia 8600M GS GPU and an AMD Athlon 64 processor. The Whitebook's prefix is OCZDIY17A2, while the other 17 inch DIY notebook is the OCZNBAN17DIYA.
I added newegg to the list of vendors. -
Excelent list i was trying to find one to compare prices/performance
Reall help to future buyers.
+1
EDIT:seems that i have to get back to that ive given tooooo much today.lol -

I don't want to make publicity but PC microworks has a great base price with the P9500 CPU $1,794.00 atm.
https://www.pcmicroworks.com/store/index.php?p=customize
Yeah the upgrades are absurdly expensive (like 450$ for another ATI 3870 or 69$ for bluetooth) but the base price with a P9500 it's a great deal. -
PC Microworks up to their usual...that $1794 is with a $1,000 holiday discount.
Sounds eerily familiar to the pre-sale price of the m860tu, where they listed a ridiculous price with a huge discount that ended up for most people being the price everyone else was charging when it came out.
My guess is we will see some other retailers dropping a price for an end of the year sale after getting a price cut from OCZ. -
Does anyone know of any canadian reseller that sell the whitebook?
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
You could check OCZ's list of system builders to see if any do at http://www.ocztechnology.com/wheretobuy/system_builders/all/canada.
If none do; there are U.S. companies that ship to Canada. -
Ahtec still doesn't offer the notebook.
Cyber-System offers it again
http://www.cyber-system.de/product.php?productid=16587&exp_showoptions=1
And a note about keyboard languages.
Most sellers just sell the notebook with a US keyboard. Even if you ask them directly most of them wont offer other options. Flextronics makes many different keyboard layouts. MyCizmo as a nice available selection.
I asked many sellers about the keyboards and the only ones that offered me other options were K|N, MyCizmo, Cyber-System and pcsforeveryone.
I known that Flextronics makes: US, UK, English, French, German, Italian, Swedish/Finnish, Spanish, Portuguese. It's likely that they made even more but these ones I known they make.
