I also gather from another thread that this laptop uses the Texas Instruments firewire chipset? This is important for compatibility with many audio production firewire interfaces, and why a lot of people just go with Macs.

This is what the Compal Base FL90 is using for the IEEE1394 hardware.

    RICOH OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394-hostcontroller

The Sager NP9262 is the only Sager model currently using the TI PCI7402 IEEE 1394 chipset.

I see, fortunately this isn't a huge concern of mine as my current audio interface is USB 2.0. Thanks again!

How difficult or easy would it be to remove the outer cover if I decided I wanted to paint it myself? I pulled the trigger on the NP2092 today, but didn't want to pay extra for painting. Sorry ;)

Bring it to a mechanic shop if you want a metallic paint :) :) Just kidding.

Why don't you put a laptop skin, it's much cheaper and you can change it later when you get tire of it, which is better than repaint).

I do a lot of DIY projects and I have access to professional equipment, so I thought maybe I'd put some paint on and a couple clear coats, but it's not totally necessary. I was just curious...

I hadn't thought of the skins, maybe I'll take a look. Thanks :)

    Hi,

Can anyone do me a favor and measure their JFL92's depth for me? I am looking for it's length (from front of the computer near mousepad to the back). It says 10.1" on the description, but I am unsure if that is including the extended battery that sticks out the back. I am thinking about buying this thing, but I need to make sure it's going to fit in my briefcase.

Can someone who has the new model measure the length of it with the extended battery sticking out?

Mine is in the mail. If no one answers, I'll measure it for you when it arrives.

Ungh, so that means it's 11.25" total? Bad news for me if that's the case...

The battery just comes out by 3/4" towards the center of the laptop, see the picture so you can get the point.

I'm just starting to understand the whole OEM/ODM side of laptop manufacturing... If I understand correctly, Sager NP2092 is actually based off of Compal JFL92, and has *nothing* to do with Clevo ? So the Compal people are the ones who do the design, and there's not one bit of Clevo doing any work on NP2092 (opposed to other Sager models being rebranded clevos) ? Tell where I'm wrong ;)...

    Your right.

You should also be ashamed for bumping a 4month old thread.

Ok, and I'm sorry :( Poland has always had an excellent team, but today is a loss tomorrow will be a win ;)

I don't know how old you are but Poland had a great player, Lato, what a great football player.

Back to the topic, do you have a Compal JFL92?

    Hi Wirelessman, :)

The reason the "Newbies" bump up old threads ... is because they probably googled a Q and get those as some hits ...

BTW, battery sticking out 3/4" ... but only about 2/3 length of the spine (back of the notebook) ... I wonder if you use a regular Briefcase type laptop carry-on bag ... when put the laptop in butt first will that eventually make the Battery snap go bad!?!?

Probably a dumb question .. oh well!

    Thanks!

    G!

Not a dumb question at all. It points out that it would probably be better to put it in the case with the battery up, not down.

I agree with Paladin, is not a bad question, however I would rather protect the top than the bottom of the lappy, but Paladin is the expert so follow his suggestion.

PS: I think when a newbie open an old thread to ask a related question, then is fine, but lately we have seen newbies opening very old threads and "answering" questions, lol. The person who open the threads is probably gone months ago.

Wirelessman makes a good point about protecting the front, but as long as you have a good laptop bag it should have very thick padding on the bottom, and probably not so much at the top where the zipper is.

i always buy a bit oversized bag so i can add some extra padding myself. sometimes even a rolled up small towel can add a lot of protection. i usually will add some foam i get from the local craft stores ill cut it so its a snug fit then put it in the bottom of the bag maybe 1" or thicker if space allows. i use the higher density green foam because its a bit firmer than they grey or white usually is..

I have a SOLO bag, is a very nice leather bag and sturdy at the same time.
