Lol... there is a small possibility that I might be getting a review model of the Rock Pegasus 520 at the same time so I can do some comparisons :)

How is the Pegasus compared to the Novatech? price wise I'm guessing Novatech would win!

Infact, there isn't much difference in price all things considered. Rock's two different Varients retail at £999, and £1099, and Novatech's (when given an extended warranty and Vista HP like the rocks) costs £940 and £1085. Remember the both the Novatechs also have smaller hard drives than the Rocks, so they are effectivly the same price.

The Rock however is no where near as attractive as the X50 in my oppinion. It has no side show and it looks cheap and bulky in all of the photos :S

A review is always welcome! Well as far as I can see the Rock's are made by ASUS.

I heard ASUS doesn't put enough quality into the ODM notebooks, than they do for their own.

Plus the X50MV looks so much better than anything I've seen! When will you get the review done on tech pond? I want to see some real life pictures.!

May even get one myself! Well, after I have paid off the MasterCard!

I look forward to the Sorar Review!

True, the Pegasus 520 is an Asus chassis (similar to the C90 series) and while we can all agree it is uglier (at least via those pictures) it is an aluminium chassis from a manufacturer with a good reputation for building high quality computers. Though obviously not as good as Clevo.

Vestal on the otherhand are a new company to the game and their only other release so far has been spat upon by critics and customers alike.

Apart from that, both carry the same chipsets. So really talk about CPU's and HDD's all you like, you can max them out with the same companents here. Graphics is only where it's slightly different, the Rock model with DDR2 but 1GB of VRAM (Which I predict will be useless with that bus-rate) and the Novatech has GDDR3 and only 512MB VRAM. The Novatech should casually win that. But that depends...

Are you reviewing the PRO model henrybutt? And which spec of the 520 are you reviewing?

I agree a very good match-up. Hopefully this will proove Rock/Stone that they were wrong to ditch Vestal. :D

Just heard back from Rock... Sadly all of the 520s they have are booked solid for reviews for a while so it looks like it will just be the X50 getting a review... although I might ask if i can still review it when there is one free :)

Not sure when I will get the review done... the laptop should be arriving in just over a week when Novatech gets one back from a mag :) (shame that forum review models are last on the list :()

I guess they still have an old-fashioned view that forums are likely to have smaller readership numbers.
I just don't know how to otherwise exlain it. Not true of course.

Well you can either review the X50 ahead (it X50 Pro version right) and compare the 520 in it's own, seperate review or wait to write the X50 review once you have the 520's results too.

    Guys,

i've been reading this thread every day to get news....

I just ordered my X50 - apparently, the problem has been that they have been waiting for their order of memory chipsets to arrive so they haven't been able to build any.

I have been told mine is now bwing built and will be with me the start of next week. If i get it first, i will do a review

Review won't be up until I find my bloody LG disc, I have a viewty with a very good camera but I can't upload pictures/videos without using the software, and I can't find the disk so it might take a few days!

I'm extremely happy with the laptop, it's so amazingly fast for such a small laptop! :D It can load Photoshop CS3 in under 3 seconds, I couldn't believe it, considering my old desktop took 20 seconds to load CS2!

ntdata, provided they have it in stock you are going to be very happy, it came in a day or two for my brother, he was so surprised it came that fast! Parcel Force FTW!

Software ain't exactly LG, it's drivers as I bought a replacement cable from Amazon! :( My laptop won't recognise it without drivers, still looking!

On the subject of the X50, a week later I got a reply about the X50 from kp@novatech from techpond.

Hmm, seems to be quite a big bios issue if it's delayed for that long!

I think BIOS changes are usually 10% changing the code and 90% testing to ensure that there are no unwanted side-effects. The main reason that Zepto have dumped Inventec is that they were unable to fix all the BIOS bugs. Users have to make do with the least buggy version.

Slightly off-topic, are you sure John that Zepto won't be releasing anymore Inventec crap? Are they going it alone, or with Compal? And maybe Clevo?

As you say. This is OT, but I was making the point that BIOS work isn't easy.

I'm not sure where Zepto are getting their new range from. It's definitely not Inventec. They claim they designed their new 15.4" notebook themselves, but someone has to make it and thy haven't said who it is. I think the forthcoming 17" Hydra is from Cleveo or Compal.

hey all... well todays been a day of disapointment...
went down to novatech to pick up my X50... only to be told that they are still fixing the bios problems.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh was my precise response, to add to my bad they, they revieled that there is a chance they will not be able to load XP onto any of them due to problems with the motherboard...
...really loosing my faith in this laptop...

Nathan, what Novatech store did you visit? It is my understanding, they have 3?

The HQ is in Portsmouth right? I would buy it from there, at least that's where they keep the stock.

    Daniel.

    P.S

I ordered a few stuff from them a while ago, and they seem pretty good.

I'll say this, provided you are buying something from Novatech that isn't new out "The X50 MV" then you will be very satisfied! :D

Glad to hear you guys are finally getting your X50's!

I think that is a question for the Novatech people, you should ask the forum http://forum.novatech.co.uk/index.php

When I got my Novatech laptop with no OS, the Harddrive was completely blank!

Hi. I just called Novatech regarding the X50 MV Pro and they told me that they have 50 instock. I really want to purchase one.

I asked them if there would be any conflicting issues if I installed Vista Ultimate 64Bit. The sales rep said that they don't supply 64bit with this system so the drivers only support 32bit. Is there anyway around this? Or would I be stuck with a 32bit system? The Rock-Direct Pegasus 520 is now looking more appealling.

    Thanks

Purchased a X50 MV PRO yesterday and returned it this morning having previously been told it would have 64bit software installed. Main issue though was the lack of HDMI port which was mentioned in the the overview and specs.

Customer services were brilliant and refunded my money straight away, the website was updated within 15 mins and any mention of HDMI has been removed.

Of note though and i've seen it mentioned somewhere else, although the machine looks very good it felt plastically and the screen didn't feel that robust.

    Bugger.

What operating system did they put on it? Would it support 64bit? Did they say they would be putting the hdmi port on in the near future?

    Cheers

hey guys it might be worth looking at http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=959&catid=1236

very good prices from what I can see and the range is expanding with new models coming soon look at the forum discussion on that website... also they offer a Clevo with a 9600 GS/GT which should be much better built than both the pegasus 520 and novatech x50mv

I am surprised that they aren't including HDMI as I am sure that KP said that Novatech pay something like £2.50 extra for this.... and I could swear that the one I tried at Novatech had one...
