Someone obviously didn't see/read the sticky in big capital letters....

If there is uncertainty regarding the 'upgrade', I wouldn't risk it until it has been confirmed that it definitely will/will not work. In regards to that, There has to be someone who tries it first..... :)

I definitely did, but regardless of the cpital letters thread, my question remains; have anyone tried it?

From what I have read in this forums alone. Quite a few have claimed to tryed it with no complications. Still not sure if I would risk it myself.

I have read of those who have upgraded the BIOS to 1.16 (including myself), but I haven't read regarding the Penryn, can you please re-direct me to where you read it, thanks.

I'll make it opposite; no one from this forum that tried it didn't confirm any complications yet. :)
So unless there appear such people the matter of Pernyn support is default to be positive. ;)

Are there really a "refresh" and an "old" version of the IFL90? I thought that the JFL92 was precisely the "refresh" version of the IFL90.

At the polish website given by "fake", the notebooks with Penryn are the IFL90, so they are the "old" version and not the "refresh" version.

I thought the latest motherboard developed by Compal was the IFL90. So, I thought it would be logical to make a refresh of IFL90 to get the new JFL92, but instead they are using a refresh of FL90.

Me to, but then again I have me new Compal notebook with penryn power and BIOS version 1.13 ( 1.16 is running fine).
So just wait and see if more details about the refresh are reported.
Pictures can be very helpfull here.

I recognize the glossy background rectangle where we have all those inscriptions, I do have that but there is nothing written there. This is very bad, this means that the shell somehow either didn't go through quality control, or there is another distributor selling cheaper stuff helping the OEM make a bigger gain. My concern here is that I didn't pay cheap, I paid $2,000 for the whole system, fully equiped, the only thing I'm missing is the TV tuner and control. I added 2 extra gigs of RAM later.

Now I'm having problem witrh this OEM to get my KB fixed, more I think and I come to the conclusion I should have bought it with powernotebooks.com, they have good prices, good warranty and customer support.

Don't worry, with my FL90 this sticker was not stuck under, but provided separately in the FL90 box, so it doesn't mean that it haven't passed the quality control.

We've tested it in our IFL90 model (3415W) and the two we tried short circuted/burnt off in a matter of days. Apparently the temperature and voltage of the Penryns are not read right, so we do not recommend using a Penryn in the FL90/IFL90.

On this website you can choose to equip your IFL90 (3415W) with some Penryn CPU (T8100, T8300, T9300, T9500).

What's the best tool to read out the CPU info, meaning getting the info to ID the CPU.

I known my system is running with the Penryn CPU but i can not get the processor part number.

That is the SRR (Santa Rosa Refresh) version of the IFL90 we are selling the Penryns in, but we've kept th 3415W model number. We do not have the original IFL90 in stock anymore.

As far as i know it's a completely new motherboard freshly designed with penryn support featuring new thermal meassurement that meassures the temperature correct on the Penryns. Also the board has been redesigned to accomodate the new power specs needed for the Penryn.
There might be other modifications that i'm not aware of though.

I have used different applications and they all give me different results, for example some say I have a Conroe and other say that I have a Menrom, I'm not even sure the difference among both. But the most disturbing result comes directly from the Intel CPU identification utility application, it says that the CPU stepping is A, and I cannot even find that stepping in their own web site
