Yep, just tought well lets put this link online, this might help you when making the dec..... to upgrade your notebook.

Intel really messed up with launching Penryn just to further hurt AMD, I bought my T7700, which I believe wasn't 1/4 of its cycle life, and now here it comes Penryn....................
Anyway, I might just wait for AMD next move, they might surprise us all with a quad technology for the laptops, I hope. -
Intel is interested in hurting and destroying AMD then hearting and destroying our wallet afterwards.
-
I know that you have tweaked your RAM, I have tried but my sessions crashes, any suggestion of how to do it? -
Keep in mind TW/OC your hardware may result in failure, and destroying hardware is alwys the risk.
Be carefull with these actions, and go step by step but not to fare. -
I agree, so I went step by step, I first changed the tRCD from 5 to 4, I run the WEI test and no improvement. So I changed the tRP this time and the system crashed.
I read that you can do it also at the BIOS windows during booting, but I don't have that option in mine, now I understand the complains of some about the basic BIOS menus in Compal laptops. -
I never tested to software utility to change the memory timing because of the risk that comes with it.
Therfore my advise is to not go this far.
THe BIOS settings ae simple but working, what do you want with al the extra features if you are only settings this ones.
I might be handy when your OC more then ones and trying to fine the best there is. -
I agree with you, so I might just change the memory and get the PC2-6400, perhaps 3G since I cannot address the full 4G.

sorry to revive this thread, but is there a way to check the motherboard to see if it is a santa rosa refresh?
-
If your notebook running with the penryn and the base of the notebook is having the taq with FL90 then it's the SRR model.
-
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
The tag on the bottom of your notebook should say IFL92 (or FL92) if it is the Penryn (Santa Rosa refresh).
IFL90 (or FL90) will be the Santa Rosa without the Penryn refresh. -
I think what they call a SRR is any IFL90 with a new thermal sensor. I'm not sure who came out with SRR, was it Compal?
-

The reason I ask is because my FL90 died randomly the other day and my guess is it needs a new motherboard, so I'm not too sure if I'll luck out and get an FL92 motherboard in my FL90 case. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
There are a few IFL90's that shipped in January and February that had the thermal IC installed to support the Penryn, but there aren't any version marks on the motherboard that will show this. You just need to know that if yours shipped before late January it won't have the new IC.
If you do need a new motherboard you should just require of your vendor that you get the new one with the SRR (Santa Rosa Refresh = SRR) thermal IC...don't leave it to luck, just make sure you vendor is reliable to provide the correct motherboard. -
Hi Paladin, do you still have some of those mobo with the thermal IC for sale?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
We do not sell motherboards. There is no way to warranty them when a user installs them...it is a factory job only.
-
I forgot that, sorry.
-
So the be clear on this issue that's going for more then a while now.
The best is to get a default FL90 machine and stick to the merom CPU.
Then when you want the Penryn CPU you must get the SRR or the new JFL92.
I do understand the issue with the warranty, but why is the rework document online on how to do it yourself regarding the Thermal IC.
Well mine is working fine and this is not from January and February but a little older. -

I know for a fact and you can find this somewhere on the internet.
The document is just explaining, what to do and how to get your mainboard ready to support the penryn cpu.
But just like paladin44 informed you, when starting to solder the Thermal IC the warranty is lost, so it's better to buy an ne mainboard and let this be installed.
This will give you 3 extra warranty options.
The machine warranty
The CPU warranty
And the warranty your notebook is upgrade by a vendor which knows what to do and how to do this. -

Sorry can't do this, lost the link.
The best is to request the vendor, they can provide more then enough details to tell you if the mainboard in your notebook will support penryn or not. -

They should know, what kind of vendor they are?
-
Your vendor needs to know more, because he needs to give support.
Or are they contacting Compal for every question they get regarding the XFL9X.
Im with Wireless man, it's simple information or else the sell stuff they don't know and cannot garantee any warranty or other kind of support. -
You would be surprised how many mikckey mouse vendors are out there.
-
I know that's why they created Disney World.
!!lol!! -
Yeah, exactly, just for them. So how is your experience with your JFL92 so far, no issues?
-
SUPERB,
It realy is running smooth with Vista Ultimate 64Bits UK.
Games are playing a little bit better then the older FL90.
OC is realy amazing, but overall it's just what I wanted and it's giving me more then that.
www.bto.eu -
I would love to OC my laptop but I have never done it, do you have any guidelines?
-
Well you have bee testing som application to adjust the memory time settings.
YOu can OC your GPU by using NTUNE, this will allow you to OC the GPU CORE and the MEMORY CORE.
For the CPU I don't know any tool so far, but I will look in to it. -
I pplayed a little with the RAM but my froze the lap, so I stop. I did not attempt to OC the CPU though.
Penryn in IFL90!
