    The IFL90 has
    Graphics: nVIDIA NB8P 512MB 128bit GDDR 2 32M x 16 * 8
    whereas the IFL00 has
    Graphics: nVIDIA NB8M 256MB 128bit GDDR 2 16M x 16 * 8

What is the difference between the two cards?
Which models are these cards? Specifically, like 8600GT, 8600GS, 8400, etc?

not half bad at all! reminds me a lil bit of the DL70!.

would it be too much to ask if you could do a side by side pic of the IFL90 and its predecessor the HEL80? :D

This model was just sent for testing and will be in testing for a little while :( I may be able to get a couple more pics, but don't think i can get any next to the HEL80 until later on.

We now have some additional pics and preliminary specs posted:

    IFL90 Here
    IFT00 Here

Although it's not final, the IFL90 will likely come with the 8600GT 512MB :D

I'm a bit curious about the XoticPC prices listed as 1799 for the IFL90 and IFT00. Are the prices going to be in that vicinity?

The price listed has nothing to do with the actual price of the machine. Pricing has not been released yet. Pricing will likely be around the price of the HGL30 / HEL80 :)

EDIT: The HEL80 will discontinue shortly after the IFL90 goes into full production.

I am sorry but there is no confirmed pricing (likely around that range). :( We will update the links above when pricing is confirmed. We only know pricing will be at a similar price point as the HEL80/HGL30 :)

EDIT: Bizcom has already added driver downloads for the new models :D

I prefer the look of the hgl30 to the ift00; though I'll be skipping this generation anyway.

Like the HEL80/HGL30 the 9 Cell does stick out. As soon as we are able to do some benchmarking I will post some scores :D Others have said around the forum that Santa Rosa may provide only minimal gains over the current Core 2 Duo  We will soon find out...

Great pics! I also like how it'll come with a 9 cell! it seems the newer nvidia cards and vista are quite battery consuming so a larger cell is nice.

I personally like the look of the IFT00 very much!

I wonder if Clevo or Asus will release whitebooks to compete with the IFT00? Last year Compal never had any competition (from whitebooks) as Asus only had the Z62 which had a much lower end video card, MSI's 14" didnt have dedicated video either, and Clevo gave up on dedicated video on anything under 17".

In the specs, a 6cell battery is listed as optional. Would the 6cell fit seamlessly?

I think I like where the fingerprint reader is placed, too. I have only ever seen it between the left/right touchpad buttons before. I am disappointed the about the Fn/Ctrl keys in the bottom left, though. =/

Kinda offtopic-- Would it be possible to replace the HD with a 2.5" form factor SSD, later? Would this help battery life--or is SSD usually about access time..?

it would seem so.. if you look at the bizcom link XoticPC posted, theres a collection of pics of the IFT00 and IFT01. the latter is simply the integrated version of the former and comes with the 6 cell as standard (I'm assuming). based on the pics, the 6 cell sits flushed.

It's still the same CPU, no? I would expect similar benchmarks. The Santa Rosa platform is mostly about new IT/Enterprise features and what not, I guess.

Thanks Goren :) It's a pleasure. We are really excited for these new Compa's to be released. Hopefully these models will cause a stir with some of the other ODM's. :D

I like them both, they look really good :)

EDIT: Pgatz11 I was mostly referring to the combination of the Santa Rosa and the new Video Card that i should have stated correctly

Wow, I seriously cannot wait for the release, really want to upgrade my B130 which is kind of falling apart for some reason. Little piece of plastic fell out of a USB slot so anything plugged in is loose and front bezel of the optical drive is coming off.

The front side bus got a kick in the pants from 667 to 800mhz, there are some IT stuff with vpro, but then there are also a few nice things like Robson, and the new video-card lineup that's been better integrated with the chipset to get a more "non-integrated" feel. A couple other small tweaks like an improvement with how the cpu communication is setup. There is much better scaling now for the CPU so you can in theory stretch your battery much further then before by slowing your system down to a crawl when just doing simple e-mail/IM/surfing. There is also wireless N...

    Something just occured to me.

From the pictures of the model, you can see that the right wrist would normally rest above the fingerprint reader... I have never used a fingerprint reader, but are they sensitive enough that a resting wrist would mess with them?

Doh!... had been looking forward to an equivalent of the Znote 6624W which is a 14.1in with a 8600GT... I thought that was based on a Compal notebook? :(
Maybe I'll go for 15.4in. Does the IFL90 have the 8600GT for sure? As well, is the video card going to be underclocked like the 7600 of the HEL80?

Nice pics, Justin! Thanks for sharing. Is the keyboard similar to the HEL80's (just wondering as many were not pleased with the non-business-class-level keyboard)?

And David, you forgot about the 96J series as Compal's main competition last year.

doh haha, although I was thinking more of the 14" level. The HGL30's main competition is probably the Asus A8, but thats an ensemble, not a built on.

In anycase, its lookin more like the IFT00 will be up there when I consider my next notebook, along with the Asus Z37 and Lenovo T/R61

I think a lot of people are miscalling the IFT line IFL? Anyway...

    Actually, according to engadget.com:
So there will be an 8600M in the 14" IFT00, too. Can anyone confirm this? If true, you can still get your 14", min2209 :D

BTW, how do I tell whether specs like "nVIDIA NB8M 256MB 128bit GDDR 2 16M x 16 * 8" are 8400/8600 etc. and whether it is GT or GS?

    NB8P = 8600M
    NB9M = 8400M

    Hope that helps!

    Yes, the 8600GT had GDDR2.

Also, aren't all of the GDDR3? or am I vastly mistaken.

EDIT: actually, they had better be GDDR3. Even the Geforce 7 Go series all had GDDR3.

Not quite. The Go 7900 series had GDDR3. The rest, like the Go 7600 or Go 7400, was all GDDR2.

I'm pretty sure "256 MB" refers to the 8600M GS, and "512 MB" refers to the 8600M GT.

Are you sure? Says on Wikipedia that they're all GDDR3. Maybe it's wrong though.
Anyway, do you know whether Compal notebooks usually have underclocked GPU's? I mean, the HEL80 had an underclocked 7600... fairly disappointing I'd say, considering there are many notebooks with 7600 or better at 15.4in or smaller with standard clock speeds. Just wondering whether they'd underclock the 8600GT too if they put one into the IFT90.

    Wikipedia is most definitely wrong.

It's underclocked for safety, heat, and battery concerns. You can always overclock to bring it up to "stock" speeds. An underclocked Go 7600 would get 1,600 3DMark06 points, whereas a "stock" Go 7600 would get around 2,000, for your reference purposes.

So if you overlocked it'll no longer be as safe? I wonder why the Compals seem to be not designed to handle the heat output of the better cards.

It's more a matter of Compal chooses to underclock to save heat and battery life. If clockspeeds are of utmost importance to you, perhaps something like an Asus notebook would be more to your liking? They will always offer notebooks with higher clockspeeds than Compal.

Actual gaming experience will not be affected that much by a few extra clock cycles on the GPU.
