if I recall your warranty is still covered in other parts of the world but you will be responsible for the shipping costs and such.

I would recommend reading what ever warranty you will get to see if it covers international shipments.
Most warranties only cover repairs done in the US, and you have to pay the shipping both ways.
At PowerNotebooks.com we only ship to US addresses, including warranty returns. -
Hey folks,
I am a linux user, and since this is pretty new hardware I want to verify as much as I can before I commit to buying.
I have done lots of research in these forums and on the net. So here are my questions:
I think I found something stating that the np2090 has a synaptics touchpad. Is it?
Does anyone have more specific hardware information (ie MB model/chipset, Wireless, Bluetooth, dvdrw, card reader...) I need to verify that the hardware is supported by the linux kernel and that there is some form of linux driver for the hardware.
Thanks for any help,
Gir -
I second gir's request.
btw, what exactly does a Synaptic touchpad have to do with Linux? I googled it and a number of Linux-related hits appear. Is there some problem with driver support for Synaptic touchpads? -
Mongoose.wa,
Linux driver support for synaptic touchpads is better than ALPS, the other major touchpad manufacture. Don't get me wrong, you can get an ALPS touchpad to work in Linux with tapping and scrolling by hacking the synaptics driver to think that you ALPS touchpad is a synaptics. If you need an article, I wrote one for the wiki for the distro that I use (Kororaa, gentoo derivitive). The synaptics touchpads are much easier to configure so that you get full functionality.
As far as the np2090, if all of the hardware is supported by the Linux kernel I will be installing some form of Gentoo Linux on it and will post the info in here. After I come up with the money of course. -
Sounds good. I'm gunna be putting Ubuntu on mine when it comes and I'm hoping everything will work fine out of the box.
-
It should, I am just wary because Gentoo is a lot more labor intensive as far as configuration.

Just put a warning/note by it not make any repairs/modification/upgrades with the resellers consent/authorization and to contact their reseller for tech support. -
If on was to order a 2090 with 2x1 RAM and a matte screen at the end of July, would it be delivered by the end of August?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
They are flowing now so that should not be a problem.
-
Paladin, any news on WXGA screens? so far everything seems to be about the + screens.
I read ur other post, so u dont have to awnser this if its the same quewtion -
will getting 2GB 1 SODIMM delay my order much instead of getting the 2GB 2 SODIMMS
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
The 2GB modules are now in and will not cause any delays on orders
-
sweet thanks for the info
-
yay justin to the rescue caUSE ur from my ordering company!!! lol
-
This might be a stupid question, but I notice that on XoticPC when configuring the Sager 2090 it says "Carrying Case Optional" - does that mean I have to pay the ~$50 for just a basic case that comes standard with a laptop sold by any other company? Or am I misinterpreting? I would appreciate a carrying case...just not for an extra $50!
-
Theres no case included, and I dont think its standard for other companies to include them. I know Asus does on a lot of their models, I haven't heard of Dell, HP or anyone else including them in the purchase.
-
Various vendors sometimes have promotions during which they include carrying cases.
It so happens that I've gotten 2 (or perhaps 3) carrying cases from Dell because they had promotions when I bought my previous laptops. I've barely used them. In general, I am skeptical that any case that is "free" with a computer will satisfy my needs.
As a matter of fact, I'm skeptical of most bundles where they give you "free" stuff. I've also gotten a "free" printer from Dell. It was utter crap. -
lol so true
-
Ive heard people having trouble with the turbo memory, I just want to know because I have time to change the order if I want to...
-
I have turbo memory. It hasn't given me any problems. I can't really tell you if it's even done anything because it's not like I have a second 2090 without it to compare. But it definitely hasn't given me any problems.
-
Seems Turbo memory problems been only with IBM and Acer so far

What power adapter would I need to use my Compal in Europe, what is the Watts of the laptop? I was thinking of getting this but dont know if it will work?
http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-33117-International-Travel-Adapter/dp/B0002H4YUI/ref=pd_sim_auto_2/104-6633135-0054330?ie=UTF8&qid=1185423267&sr=1-1 -
If I'm not mistaken I think it comes with European and Usa power cords.
-
The power supplies that come with laptops can deal with most power specs around the world. The way to make sure is to verify what voltage and frequency is used in the country you are thinking about (google is your friend) and verify that your laptop power supply works in that range. My power supply supports 120-240V and 50-60Hz. Before going to India, I checked the specs there and found that my power supply would work. The only thing I needed was a plug adapter. Those were plentiful in India and sold for about US$0.50. (It would have cost much more to buy in the US.)
The device you are linking to is a plug adapter. It looks like is should be good. My only concern is that it seems to be a fairly complex device and it seems rather big. The more complex a device is, the more risk there is to break it. I would not trade the small, simple and cheap plug adapter I got in India for that thing. I guess that device can be advantageous for someone who travels a lot but if you need to deal with only a few electrical standards there are simpler options available.
I do not think the Compal ships with cords for both North-America and Europe. Those sold in Europe have European cords and those sold in North-America have North-American cords. -
-
W is for Watts. V is for Voltage. I don't have a Compal in hand but I'd be surprised if they don't support 120-240V. Of course, you should confirm with someone who knows for sure.
-
-
I'm pretty sure it comes with a power cable for Europe along with the USA one, someone here posted that they got it, can't remember the name. Do search, you might be able to find it, I think I saw it in the 2090 owners lounge.
-
Can someone please clarify what does and doesnt work with the linux kernel.
Would be so helpful for me as i am seriously considering this laptop, seems an amazing piece of kit for a great price!
The bluetooth would aslo be useful to know if it works if somehas it? It seemed to be an extra option at the place i was going to get it
Thanks

Hello All,
Just wondering if someone could give me the depth of the laptop with the nine cell battery. I am assumming the 10.1 depth in the specifications is for the 6 cell battery. Just wondering if this laptop will fit into my current laptop bag or not.
Everyone says the IFL90 and NP2090 are the exatcly the same (except badging). But if you configure both of them to be the same (or as close to it as possible), it seems like the NP2090 comes out a few dollars cheaper and you get the 32 and 64 bit version of windows at no extra charge. -
yup, thats the difference
-
anyone tried overclocking ther Sager yet? if so, what did u use and how? i just wanna know incase i wanna OC the 8600 gT
-
yup.

post 14.
Edit: most likely RivaTuner -
It sticks out about 3/4 of an inch, so just add that, -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
As for the difference you should compare the warranties. The PowerPro J 10:15 (Compal IFL90) comes standard with a 3 Year Warranty with Next Business Day shipping paid both was and Lifetime 24/7 DOMESTIC Toll Free Customer Service while the Sager comes standard with a 1 Year Warranty (that can be upgraded to 3 years) with 3 Day Shipping paid both ways. -
yay, xotic is expecting the shipment in this week!
-
Thanks for the quick answers guys/gal
I was wondering if anyone had any spec for the TV tuner option. These are the specs I am interested in knowing. I know there is a delay with the TV tuners but the specs should be out on them (I hope).
1) Signal support (SD on air, analog cable, digital cable, HD on air)
2) DVR?
3) Antenna?
4) Resolution support for incoming signals
5) Software or hardware decoding/encoding (only matter if signals are HD I guess but good to know)
6) Does the remote for the premium or ultimate edition tuck into a card slot or is it a big remote
On a side note does anyone have the model number for the optical drive for the NP2090? I want to look for a region free mod. -
Any new owners yet??!? i would like to see some videos and more pics!! lol
-
